Bridal Fashion Week for Spring 2015: All the Highlights (and So Many Swoon-Worthy Dresses!)

Apr/16/2014 at 04:08 PM ET

We love all Fashion Weeks around here, but we have a special place in our heart for Bridal Fashion Week. The gowns! The gossamer! The gloriously romantic silhouettes! We sent one of our two resident brides-to-be, writer/reporter Michelle Ward, to some of the most beautiful shows in Manhattan, to report on what she saw (and, fine, maybe do a little gown research for herself). Below, check out her “diary” from the shows.

Let me start by saying, I’m getting married and I don’t have a dress yet. So to say being tasked with covering bridal week for Spring 2015 is like being a kid in a candy store is an understatement. I was dying to go. Did I mention my wedding is in spring 2015? Even better.

Now, I won’t bore you with the contents of the novel-like notebook I now own (I haven’t taken notes like that since my college finals), but I will share a few key trends I saw (think: off-the shoulder gowns, whimsical hair, embroidered veils and plenty of lace) as well as some of my favorite moments from the week. Here are some highlights:

Lauren Conrad Shares Her Top 25 Bridal Gowns -- We Pick Our Faves for Her to Wear!

Apr/09/2014 at 09:00 AM ET

Lauren Conrad has always loved fashion (she designs two lines, Paper Crown and LC by Lauren Conrad), so we’re expecting some pretty big things from her wedding dress. The bride-to-be told Martha Stewart Weddings that she’s been thinking about her gown since high school. “Bridal is unique because of the quality of the fabrics and the silhouettes,” she said. “It’s such an important part of someone’s big day, and I always thought that was cool.”

Will she go classic or modern? What would go best with her signature cat eye? How will she wear her hair? So many questions, and they’re only partially answered in her list of 25 gowns she loves, complete with notes on how she’d style them. We’re not shocked she’d ditch the “rocker” black leather gloves with this Vera Wang strapless design, and we’re pretty convinced the girl won’t go short or A-line or tea-length — she could do that any time (and in fact, she does — a lot).

So we carefully went through her list and picked three dresses we think are legitimate contenders for Conrad’s big day. From left …

Oscar de la Renta: The designer has a penchant for all things precious, which is why we think this Oscar De La Renta dress could be perfect. “There’s something so sweet about this one,” she says of the gown paired with a scalloped veil. And yes, we totally peg her as a veil girl. Based on her engagement shoot, Conrad loves anything diaphanous and gauzy. Plus, she praises how the layers on the veil work with the layers on the dress without being too “matchy-matchy.” Amen, LC.

Marchesa: Remember when you thought peplum was dead and then it showed up everywhere at the Oscars? If someone else was going to rock it, it’d be Conrad in this Marchesa sheath dress. She says that the lace makes the waist detail “not overwhelming.” She’s also the voice of reason about the practicality of the peplum: “Peplums are much more flattering than people think because if you have the curves, it shows them off, and if you don’t have them, it gives the illusion.”

Elizabeth Fillmore: Since she now has a simple (and stunning!) solitaire round engagement ring, what better to wear it with than this dramatic Elizabeth Fillmore piece. Described as “eyelet-embroidered high-low wrap ball gown with ostrich feathers,” it’s a high-fashion mouthful. But as Conrad points out, “It’s already styled.” Throw on some delicate shoes (we’d pick these gold Manolos to go with her ring) and prance down the aisle in style.

Do you agree with our picks? What type of dress would you like to see Conrad wear? Share your thoughts below.

Even if you’re not planning your own trip down the aisle, you probably have a folder on your desktop labeled “wedding dresses” or a board on Pinterest dedicated to gowns because, let’s face it — they’re so much fun to stare at. That’s why we love bridal fashion week: It’s a whole lot of pretty in a short period of time. But since high-end designer bridal gowns are a pipe dream for most of us, we especially love Zac Posen for providing high style at a lower price.

The designer launched his debut line Truly by Zac Posen at David’s Bridal in February, and he maintains that all the designs in the collection are representative of his high-fashion brand. Read More

Jennifer Lawrence has landed yet another magazine cover, but this time it’s not because she’s starring in a blockbuster. Instead, she’s in the supporting role (so to speak), of bridesmaid in her brother Blaine’s Kentucky wedding in October, which was featured on the cover of Martha Stewart Weddings‘ special Real Weddings issue.

After months of speculation, Kim Kardashian has finally landed her first Vogue cover. And she’s not alone. The reality star joins fiancé Kanye West for the magazine’s April issue shot by Annie Leibovitz.

Kardashian, 33, wears a gorgeous strapless Lanvin gown and poses with West’s arms wrapped around her for the shot. The rapper looks ready to head down the aisle as well in a navy suit. The coverline? #worldsmosttalkedaboutcouple, which is hard to argue with considering the duo’s whirlwind relationship and presence in the fashion world.

North, 9 months, also joins her stylish parents for the shoot (as seen in the behind-the-scenes clip below) set to West’s “Bound 2″ hit.

“Annie and Grace Coddington [Vogue Creative Director] we’re so impressed with how professional Kim was,” an industry insider tells PEOPLE. “They all laughed throughout the shoot and had so much fun.” Read More

Britney Spears‘s wedding looks have run the gamut from ripped jeans to minidresses to ballgowns, so we couldn’t wait to see what little sis Jamie Lynn Spears wore to her Friday nuptials in New Orleans. And while we weren’t surprised to see her in something long, pretty and white, we were a little surprised to see mom Lynne in a dress not so different from the 22-year-old bride’s.
