She may have designed her line L.A.M.B. just for herself, but Gwen Stefani was willing to share her wardrobe with the ladies of American Idol this week when she dressed them for Wednesday’s show. Thursday night, Idol took us backstage to the fitting session — every girl’s dream! — where Stefani helped choose outfits for the budding superstars. Admitting that she was not a stylist — and even a bit nervous! – the No Doubt rocker first pulled pants and a jacket “literally out of my closet” for contestant Hailey Reinhart. She ended up choosing a different outfit, though: a checkered linen tabard top and leather pants. Pia Toscano, who was sent home Thursday night, rocked a “tribal” animal-print jumpsuit and layered on some accessories. And 16-year-old Lauren Alaina, the show’s youngest star, skipped a look she found too “biker” and opted for gingham shorts and a matching top, covered up with a black blazer — the first look Stefani pulled. “That’s totally something I would wear, for real,” she said. The designer explained that she wanted her clothes to give the girls a confidence boost on stage: “What you’re wearing is the last thing you want to think of.” Tell us: What did you think of Stefani’s picks?

As a judge on American Idol, Jennifer Lopez has impressed us this season with her ear for talent — and her gorgeous skin and makeup. How does she manage to look so good, in high definition, no less? For starters, she sticks with the bare essentials. “I’m a big believer in the basics. Less is more,” she tells Allure. “I use a very mild makeup remover and a very basic sunscreen-moisturizer combo, and I try to get lots of sleep.” And even though she’s attempted some questionable beauty trends in the past, she doesn’t regret any of them. “I stand by all my awful looks,” she says, laughing. While Lopez spends a decent amount of time getting dolled up for the red carpet, where she says she feels most beautiful, she explains that it’s important to remember that beauty comes from within — a mantra that she plans to pass on to her daughter, Emme, 3. “You can be the most physically beautiful girl, but if you’re not a beautiful person, that shows,” she says. “So I really do teach her to love herself and to know that beauty is something that comes from the inside.” That likely applies to her signature skin look, then, which has been touted the ‘J. Now that Jennifer Lopez has finally made her debut on American Idol, it’s time to start seeing her inevitable parade of fabulous frocks. And it doesn’t sound like sitting behind a judging table alongside Randy Jackson and Steven Tyler for most of the show will mean that her wardrobe is going to be anything less than stunning. “You’re going to see everything,” Lopez said of her American Idol look at the TCA Press tour last week, InStyle.com reports. “I can only be myself on the show. I’m not going to try and play it down or play it up or do anything. I’m just going to be me, that’s always worked for me with the public. They see me, they know that I’m real.” And that means sticking to a glamorous look that doesn’t take a whole lot of time.  “I don’t want to over-think it too much,” she said. “I’m a girl who likes to get dressed up, put on her jewelry or her lipstick and go. When Crystal Bowersox announced her engagement to fellow musician and longtime friend Brian Walker last month, she promised to be anything but the typical bridezilla — and from her unique earth-friendly dress to her diamond-free wedding ring, the season 9 American Idol runner-up seems to have stayed true to her word. The bride wore an organic, hemp and cotton wedding gown from Vermont designer Tara Lynn to exchange her vows on Sunday at the Chicago café where she first met Walker six years ago, saying ‘I do’ with a 1.1-carat princess cut ruby ring designed by Walker and crafted by Chicago’s Traci Coughlin and Steve Quick Jewelers. “There are no diamonds to be found as we don’t believe in the violence and injustice that occurs within the diamond trade industry,” Bowersox tells PEOPLE. “Both rings feature the masonry symbol, an infinity 8, and the Sanskrit symbol for the sound ‘om’ and a personal design that for us represents three: Brian, Crystal, and Tony.” As for her one of a kind wedding dress? “The gown is a simple princess line with an open back; a machine-knit hemp twine strap crisscrosses in back,” says designer, Tara Lynn. And new bride Bowersox couldn’t have been more pleased with the results. “I gave Tara Lynn the base ideas of what I wanted, and in three weeks, she created a beautiful gown made of hemp and cotton, with a handmade macramé and bead sunflower design on the front,” Crystal tells PEOPLE. “The train of the dress is a handmade design of hemp twine, sea shells, and beads, some of which came from pieces of sentimental jewelry.” Read more details on Crystal’s intimate Chicago wedding in the current issue of PEOPLE, on newsstands Friday. –Gillian Koenig; reporting by Marisa Laudadio

It’s going, going, gone! “Bout to get rid of the beard,” Chris Daughtry Tweeted earlier this morning before sharing photos of the step-by-step as he razored off weeks’ worth of a burgeoning lumberjack beard. The American Idol alum and Grammy-nominated Daughtry frontman, who famously announced on the show that he shaves his head because he’s balding, usually balances his cue-ball noggin with interesting facial hair–rocking everything from a petite goatee to this recent grizzly-man beard. While newly anointed ‘Idol’ Lee DeWyze and his fellow contestants were busy belting it out for the title of American Idol, Ryan Seacrest spent much of Season 9 sharpening his personal style. The host donned dapper Burberry suits from the brand’s Prorsum, London and Brit collections throughout the season, capping it off on the finale last night with a custom-made tuxedo from the British label. Over the course of 48 episodes, Burberry has outfitted Seacrest with 12 bespoke suits marked with a special ‘To Ryan, From Christopher 2010′ insignia from Burberry chief creative officer Christopher Bailey along with cufflinks and pocket squares that bear Seacrest’s initials. Crystal Bowersox has come a long way since leaving Ohio for Hollywood–and we aren’t just talking about her rising star power. With a little fashion encouragement from American Idol resident stylist Soyon An, the young star (and only female left in the Top Three) has undergone a bit of a makeover since hitting the show–just don’t tell Crystal that. “She was like, ‘I’m not going to change for the show, everyone thinks I’m going to get an image makeover or whatever, but I’m not changing for the show,’” says An of her first meeting with Crystal.  But after a bit of a nudge, Crystal acquiesced and allowed An to tweak her style.  ”I want to enhance it, tailor it, refine it,” An recalls telling Crystal, who slowly started to open up about what she liked.  ”She would tell me little stories about when she was a little kid and played dress up, and I was like, ‘Maybe this is your little moment of coming out of the fashion closet and letting people see the real Crystal.’” And according to An, the real Crystal “really wants to wear that dress and heels sometimes.” Now, three months after their first meeting, An says Crystal has found her star style. “I think she’s bohemian rock,” says An. You can’t miss Adam Lambert in a crowd, so what’s the secret to his standout style? “More is more,” he reveals in a new video for Fashionair.com taken at his photo shoot for Paper magazine’s “Beautiful People 2010″ issue. “I think glam is as much an attitude as it is an aesthetic,” he says, sporting a layered jacket by Bisson (that he describes as, “turtle neckalicious,”) jeans and boots by Diesel, and a shirt from All Saints. “Not taking yourself too seriously and getting to really overdo it at times.” And with Lambert guest mentoring on American Idol next week, expect nothing less than an over-the-top mix of major statement pieces. “When I put together my own things, I just put as many rings and as many necklaces on as possible–I don’t really stop, I take it as far as I can take it,” he says. Have you ever thought about getting a tattoo but just weren’t sure about what to get or how much you’d like when on? Katharine McPhee told PEOPLE at the premiere of I Now Pronounce You Larry and Chuck that she’s been wanting a tattoo but decided to do a test run with a henna design first! The singer confesses, “I’ve been wanting a tattoo. I think sometimes they can be sexy. I went to India Town yesterday, [and] I went to the Hollywood Salon. So I just got some Henna and I love it!” But don’t hold your breath for her to get inked up anytime soon. The soon-to-be-actress may just keep the impermanent style for a little while longer. As Katharine told PEOPLE, “Maybe I’ll just keep doing Henna for a while and see if I like it.” Sounds like a plan to us! Going from average high school student to America’s singing sweetheart requires a certain wardrobe adjustment. So you may have noticed when Jordin Sparks, who wore an affordable dress on last week’s American Idol, stepped it up last night in a custom-made designer frock by Badgley Mischka. Longtime fans of the show, Mark Badgley and James Mischka honed in on Jordin early on. Badgley tells PEOPLE, “We kept thinking, ‘That’s a beautiful young girl; she would look amazing in our clothes.’ ” So when Jordin made it to the top two with Blake Lewis, they jumped on creating her finale wardrobe. Mischka says of Jordin: “She’s absolutely amazing and such a talent. She’s only 17 years old, but we wanted her to look glamorous and feminine.” Judging by the dazzling black dress she wore when she brought the house down singing “This Is My Now,” they’re already on target. Just last month, Kelly Clarkson wowed us with her new grown-up sleek and glossy brunette bob at the ASCAP awards. Well, it seems like she’s already sick of the short hair. Yesterday, the former American Idol turned up at TRL to talk about her upcoming album, My December, sporting some longer — and darker — locks in a pulled back half-up look. We really liked Kelly’s short hair, but the added length does give her a rock-n-roll edge. Luckily no hair change is permanent. Tell us: Do you like Kelly with long hair or a classic bob?

With all six American Idol finalists still intact after last week’s surprise twist — no one goes home! — it was only natural that the singers would turn things up a notch. Not only did Blake Lewis break from the expected with his beat-boxing rendition of “You Give Love a Bad Name,” he amped up his look by swapping out his blond spikes for an edgier black crop. But we’ve never seen Kelly look quite as chic and sophisticated as she did at the ASCAP awards last night! Sporting a sleek and glossy brunette bob, the singer stepped out in a moss green chiffon Monique Lhuillier cocktail dress with a pearl-laden neckline and blinged-out Guiseppe Zanotti stilettos. We’ve seen it before with Carrie Underwood — she’s the picture of innocence on the red carpet only to reveal a sexier side onstage. And last night’s CMT awards (where the singer won three awards) was no exception. Carrie told PEOPLE that “I just wanted something different, just something sweet” of her ’50s-style Badgley Mischka dress and nude Christian Louboutin heels that she arrived in. But her onstage look was anything but sweet, with silver hot-pants showing off her toned legs, a keyhole top, armful of bangles and legwarmers over stilettos. We want to know which look you prefer! To show their support for American Idol finalist Blake Lewis, the Seattle-based singer’s cheering squad has been sporting shirts emblazoned with “Blaker Girl” or “Blaker Boy” across the chest when they attend the show. Inspired by former Laker Girl Paula Abdul, Blake’s childhood friend Kristi Redman, along with other friends, got serious about making pro-Blake paraphernalia as the singer kept advancing in the competition.
