A Genius Product That’ll Save You Money, Save the Planet and Save Your Clothes

Apr/01/2013 at 06:00 AM ET

Most women tend to fall into three categories: those who dry clean their silks, cashmeres and other delicates then gripe about how much money they’re spending on it; those who stop buying dry-clean-only clothes; and finally, those who never actually dry clean their dry-clean-only clothes. None of those situations is ideal, which is why we were so thrilled to discover The Laundress:

We’re mentally adding up all the cash we’ll save by not having to bring our silk tops, cashmere cardigans and delicate dresses to the dry cleaner. (And yes, we’re also mentally adding up how many new items of spring clothing we can buy with that saved money!)

CHECK OUT THE SPRING TRENDS WE’RE LOVING!

And there’s an added benefit: By not exposing your duds to the harsh chemicals most dry cleaners use, they’ll last longer. (Not to mention the fact that this at-home cleaning kit is much more eco-friendly.)

We recommend the Special Care Kit to start off, plus the Denim Wash, which will seriously extend the life of your jeans. Oh, and we’re loving the Crease Release spray, which gets rid of wrinkles with nothing but a spritz.

Don’t forget to enter PEOPLE15 at checkout for a 15% discount. And be sure to see the other products we’re loving from Joyus.com here!

Why Christine Taylor Made the Switch to Natural Beauty Products

May/15/2012 at 06:00 PM ET

A veteran of the Hollywood makeup chair, Christine Taylor is still flaunting flawless skin at 40 thanks to a few simple habits she’s picked up along the way.

“I’m really diligent,” the actress tells PEOPLE about her daily beauty routine, which starts and ends with a good cleanse. “I never miss the morning face wash or the nighttime face wash.” Even after partying into the wee hours at last week’s Met Gala with husband Ben Stiller? Oh yes. “I was so tired, I just thought, ‘Should I go to sleep because I’m getting up in three or four hours anyway?’ I won’t; I have to get [my makeup] off.”

But it goes beyond cleansing; it’s about ingredients, too. After wasting time — and more money than she would like to admit to her husband! — testing out mystery products from natural markets, the mom was thrilled when new body care line Nourish by Sensible Organics tapped her to be their spokesperson. “The fresh fig body butter is my all-time favorite, and I load it on before bed,” she shares. “It’s not so greasy that you think you’re going to get your sheets [dirty]. It saturates but then you wake up with nice smooth hands and feet.”

Ginnifer Goodwin looked like a million bucks at the White House Correspondents’ Dinner in Washington, D.C., Saturday night — but her dress was only $299.

The Once Upon a Time star — a guest of NPR — wore a voluminous light gray creation from the new H&M Exclusive Glamour Conscious Collection, a line of eco-friendly dresses and separates already seen on the red carpet on stars like Michelle Williams, Viola Davis, Kristin Davis and Amanda Seyfried.

“I wanted something that was very earth-friendly,” the actress told PEOPLE on her way into the event. “That was critical.”

Goodwin’s gown is a limited edition piece; only 1,000 were made, and each is individually numbered. The dress features white organic cotton and silk bouclé at the top, with an organza plissé meringue skirt. There’s a concealed zipper in back, and Goodwin customized the gown by adding a black belt and a statement clutch from Stark, too.

Her dress fit in beautifully with all of the Monique Lhuilliers and Marchesas — but has a price we can actually afford! Tell us: Would you have guessed Goodwin’s gown was more expensive?

How Levi’s Saved 172 Million Gallons of Water — in Just 18 Months

The average pair of jeans requires 42 liters of water to make. That’s 42 liters we could be conserving for our oceans, our drinking — and for those who don’t even have access to clean water.

To reduce its own impact, Levi’s launched Water<Less jeans in 2010, creating a line of denim that uses on average 28 percent less H20 (and in some cases, up to 96 percent). And the company is continuing that eco-friendly trend for spring, rolling out even more classic jeans and shorts created with the environment in mind — just in time for Earth Day.

“Water conservation and clean drinking water are global problems,” actor Adrian Grenier, who attended a dinner at the Levi’s Haus in Los Angeles recently in support of the initiative, tells PEOPLE. “A billion people around the world do not have access to clean drinking water and I support companies that are making responsible choices to address issues like this.”
