Kate Hudson Cuts Her Own Bangs!

Alex Berliner/Berliner/Beimages

Who hasn’t been tempted to skip the salon and to take a pair of scissors to her own growing-out bangs? Looks like some celebs are actually follow through on the urge. Although Kate Hudson has one of the world’s top hair stylists at on speed dial, she showed up at the SAG awards having done just that. Her stylist — and good friend — David Babaii had planned to create full-on bangs for Kate’s red carpet stroll, but, he exclaims, “Princess decided to take it on her own and cut her own bangs! I was like, you’re nuts!,” he said of his initial shock. “But,” he conceded, “she did a great job!” Babaii ended up playing off Kate’s self-created look for the show and going for a sexy ’70s Playboy feel — while she wore her new eyebrow-grazing fringe full-on for last night’s premiere of Fool’s Gold. And one thing’s clear, if the star ever gets tired of acting she’s got another career waiting in the wings.

Get the Look: Debra Messing’s Screen Siren Hair and Makeup

Paul Buck/EPA/Corbis

LORAC Cosmetics founder Carol Shaw used a selection of her company’s celeb-loved products to create an “Ann-Margret-meets-Barbarella” look for Debra Messing’s red carpet stroll. She created a base using Breakthrough Performance Foundation in SMS 3, $38, and Undercover Lover concealer in UL 2 patted beneath her eyes, then lightly dusted her skin with Translucent Touch Up Powder in TL 2, $32. To create smouldering eyes, Shaw premiered LORAC’s Best Dressed palette, which will be available for purchase after the Oscars. She started with a warm pearl highlighter under brow bone, and gold at the corner of each eye. Shaw swept a coppery hue over the over her entire upper lid and taupy-brown in the crease. She finished with Eye Shadow in Dark Brown, $16, smudged over whole lid and under the lower lashes, then rimmed the inner lid with LORAC Pencil for Eyes in #01 Dark Brown, $12. Visual Effects Mascara in Jet Black, $20 completed the eyes. Next, Shaw brushed Hot & Spicy Cheek Duo Blush/Bronzer, $29, to give Debra a peachy, sun-kissed look. She kept Debra’s lips neutral by shaping them with Pencil for Lips in #18 Light Rosy Nude, $12, then filling in with Co-Stars Lip Color and Ultra Glossy Top Coat in French Kiss, $19. The final pro touch was TANtalizer Body Bronzing Luminizer, $30, which gave Debra’s body a red-carpet-worthy glow.

And while with a little attention, you can recreate Debra’s makeup look at home, her bouncy gorgeous locks sadly might prove to be a bit more of a challenge. The genetically-gifted redhead gave credit where credit was due, revealing on the red carpet, “This is really my natural hair, with just a little bit of curling iron.”

Get the Look: Cate Blanchett’s SAG Awards Radiance

Paul Buck/EPA/Corbis

Mommy-to-be Cate Blanchett glowed in a glam metallic gown by Nicolas Ghesquiere for Balenciaga. Chanel makeup artist Lucienne Zammit kept Cate’s face “dewy and fresh” — in contrast to her dark dress — using Stila Perfecting Foundation in A, $30, Laura Mercier Secret Concealer in #1, $22, and LORAC Translucent Touch Up Powder in TL 1, $32. Chanel Powder Blush in Rose Petale, $40, and Chanel Rouge Allure lipstick in Darling, $30, enhanced Cate’s natural radiance. Zammit then brought out her blue eyes with Chanel shimmery Quadra Eye Shadows in Demure and Dunes, $55. She applied light peach shadow in the inner eye corners, rosy gold and frosted pink in the center of the eyelids, and brown in the outer corners. Mixing a smudge of the brown shadow with Chanel Intense Eye Pencil in Ambre, $27, completed the look.

To relax the glitz of Cate’s dress, Matrix stylist Mark Townsend went for a “fun and sexy” style rather than an updo. He started a day early, creating texture with Amplify Foam Volumizer, $18, and a blow-out. The next morning, he sprayed Biolage colorcaretherapie Shielding Shine Mist, $15, and scrunched Cate’s hair all over. Before using a 1″ curling iron, he spritzed hair with Vavoom Gold Heat Iron-in Volume Protective Dry Mist, $14, and then curled sections from end to root, clipping each curl to set while her makeup was applied. Later, he removed the clips and raked his hands (again sprayed with the Shine Mist) through her hair. Using a natural-bristle eyebrow brush sprayed with hairspray, he tamed flyaways on top and created loose texture at the bottom.

Get the Look: Christina Applegate’s Retro SAG Beauty

Gilbert Flores/Celebrity Photo

The Samantha Who? star’s silvery Elie Saab gown inspired Chanel makeup artist, Kara Yoshimoto Bua, and Frederic Fekkai hair stylist, Adir Abergel, to recreate a stunning modernized Grace Kelly-meets-1930’s look. To get her red carpet ready, Kara Toshimoto Bua started with Chanel’s Naturally Luminous Fluid Makeup, $45, in shade 50 Natural for under the eyes as a concealer, between the brows, around the nose, mouth and chin and finally blended lightly down her neck and decolletage. The foundation was set with with Chanel’s Ultra-fine Translucent Powder, $60, and the lips were moisturized with Burts Bees honey lip balm,$3. The cheeks were then contoured with Chanel’s Toundra Silky Bronzer Powder, $46, and highlighted with Chanel Rose Petal Powder Blush for a shimmering pinky finish. Christina’s eyes were first blended with Chanel Fluid Iridescent Eyeshadow #70 (silvery), $30, on lid, inner eye and bottom lash line to open and highlight eyes. Her eyes were then lined with Chanel Long-lasting Eyeliner Ebene 10, $27, blended out and elongated past end of outer eye to give the look of liquid liner. To really open the eye — without giving her the spidery dark under eye, two mascaras were used — Chanel Inimitable Waterproof 10 Black$27, was applied to the top lash line and the Inimitable in brun, $27, for the bottom lashes. To contrast her pale face palette, Christina’s lips were done with Chanel’s Lotus Rouge Creme Lipstick, $26, a blue-red sheer texture lipstick and lined with Cardamone Precision Lipdefiner, $26.

Frederic Fekkai hairstylist Adir Abergel wanted to take things off her face and to the side. First he applied Fekkai Shape and Set mist, $25, all over the hair from roots to ends then dried the hair with a T3 blow-dryer, about $200, using his hands only. After it was dry, he took a 1″ FHI curling iron, $195, to about 2 inch sections of the hair to achieve a “crimped” texture. He used a dime size of Fekkai Coiff Nonchalant soft pomade, $23, to texturize the hair for hold and pliability before putting it up. To complete the look, he hand raked her hair back into a low side ponytail and secured it into a loose ponytail with hair pins and a rubber band. Finally, a diamond broach by Lorraine Schwartz was added to the side of the ponytail and Fekkai Sheer hold hairspray, $23, was applied all over.

Get the Look: Ellen Pompeo’s Soft SAG Beauty

Lester Cohen/WireImage

For Ellen Pompeo’s cool-toned makeup look, Physician’s Formula celebrity makeup artist Joanna Schlip began by using Armani Silk Luminous Foundation no. 4, $55, as a base. She then patted Cle de Peau Concealer no. 2 under her eyes. A pop of Physicians Formula Organic Wear in Pink Organics, $11.95, available at mass-market and drugstores nationwide, gave Pompeo a fresh glow. Although Pompeo has green eyes, Schlip used a Physician’s Formula Shimmer Strips palette, $12, for blue eyes. She started by lightly lining along the top lash with Physician’s Formula Liquid Felt-Tip Eye Marker in Warm Black, $7, then sweeping a mix of the medium and dark Shimmer Strips shades in a windshield wiper motion across the lid. Using the same shimmer shadow, she lined beneath the bottom lashes. She finished the eyes with a Shiseido lash curler, $18, and two coats of Prescriptives False Eyelashes Plush Mascara in black. Joanna then lined Ellen’s lips with MAC nude pencil in Subculture, $13, filling in with Physician’s Formula Plump Palette in Mauves, $8. After blotting the lips, she finished with clear gloss.

To create Ellen Pompeo’s modern, hip up-do, Harry Josh, Creative Consultant for the John Frieda Collection, relied on John Frieda products to get a look “like she rolled out of bed, put on a $10,000 dress and heels and just left.” Because of the humid conditions of the day, Josh began by washing Ellen’s hair with Weather Works by Frizz-Ease Weather-Proofing Shampoo and Conditioner, $6, then smoothing on a dab of the Weather Works by Frizz-Ease Weather-Proofing Style Sealant Creme, $6, to control frizz. He then toweled-dried, blowing it dry using his fingers while building up volume with Sheer Blonde Crystal Clear Hairspray, $6. He teased the hair slightly at the crown. Then, instead of a typical bun, he created an asymmetrical side bun, leaving the ends loose, instead of hiding all the neatness on the inside. Lastly, he smoothed out the hairline with a blow dryer and hand-picked a few pieces to stick out.

Get The Look: Angelina Jolie’s Natural Hair & Makeup

Frank Micelotta/Getty

Angelina Jolie turned heads at this year’s SAG awards with her billowy vintage Hermes gown from N.Y.C’s Rare Vintage. Makeup artist Mary Burton played up the ’60s/’70s vintage feel of the dress by keeping the makeup natural. Since Angelia doesn’t like too much color on her face, Burton used Chanel’s Pro Lumiere foundation, $52 — mixing several shades to match her skin. She applied Laura Mercier powder blush, $22, as an orange-y tint for her cheekbones. For her eyes, Burton used Shiseido’s Hydro-Powder Eye Shadow, $25, for a light, creamy color on her lid and under her eyebrow. She lined her lid with a liquid eyeliner from Lancome, $28. Burton used two mascaras from Lancome — one to lengthen, $24, and one to volumize, $24. The lips were kept neutral using Cargo’s beige high-definition lipgloss compact, $29.

It was Angelina’s aura that inspired hairstylist David Babaii to create the loose ‘do. Using his own beach spray, Babaii was able to achieve instant volume and texture. He created eight barrel curls by sectioning the hair into four with a big curling iron and sprayed a little beach spray on the roots without any blow drying. The curls were clipped and then he teased the roots a bit. Once dried, he took it out and it was done. “I was just like, shake it out, let’s go,” says Babaii. For a similar look try this Tousled Wave Spray, $23, from Frederic Fekkai at sephora.com.
