Francisco Costa on Dressing Penélope Cruz: “She’s an Angel”

In her new film Broken Embraces, Penélope Cruz dresses the part of a mogul’s wife and budding movie star, but at the Calvin Klein Collection-sponsored Cinema Society premiere at the Crosby Street Hotel last night, she looked simply angelic in a long white velvet coat and matching dress from Calvin Klein Collection with glittering Chopard diamonds. “She’s an angel,” said Francisco Costa, who is the Women’s Creative Director, Calvin Klein Collection. “She’s a total clothes horse. She looks amazing in everything.” Costa was also struck at how well the camera reacts to Penélope, even in her off time. “It was quite telling today. I wasn’t in the last fitting, and I got pictures of her in the clothes at the hotel room. And they looked like movie stills. She was just wearing the clothes in the hotel room, but it almost felt like Helmut Newton pictures, there was so much of her in the photos.” Even for a star as graceful as Penélope, it is still demanding to promote two movies at once — her musical Nine is coming out in December, as well. “Well, yes, I’m dressing for two tours at once over these two weeks, so it’s great that I have a team of people that help me.” Luckily after months of rigorous training for her dance numbers in Nine, she looks as fabulous in her red carpet clothes as she does in her revealing costumes. “For Nine, I had to rehearse a number for three months,” said Cruz. “That was the only way to do that, I had singing teachers and dancing teachers. I did dancing when I was growing up. I did classical ballet, but what I do in Nine is a VERY different type of dance. It was really like starting from zero, in a way.”–Jeffrey Slonim

Ashley Greene on Her Last-Minute Premiere Look: “We Had to Start From Scratch”

Twilight’s Ashley Greene might have looked red-hot at last night’s L.A. premiere of the film series’ latest installment, New Moon, but she tells PEOPLE that finding her perfect scarlet Prabal Gurung stunner was no small matter. “We picked a dress out, had it ready,” Ashley says of a different look, which she originally chose with her stylist. But at the last minute, “I decided I didn’t like it and we had to start from scratch.” Just how down to the wire did it get? “I stopped by the tailors right before I got here to pick up the dress,” she admits. The rest of her red-carpet prep, however, was less of an ordeal. For two hours on the Sunday before the premiere, Ashley received eyelash extensions from expert Calma Yom at The Parlour on 3rd and then returned to the salon to have her hair extensions freshened up the following day. As for her bronzed skin, Ashley looked to St. Tropez tanning expert Fiona Locke, who customized and contoured her skin before the big event. The final touch came at the hands of makeup artist Vanessa Scali, who created the ’60s-inspired look for the Twilight star with “well-defined eyes with lots of lashes, a strong brow and clean skin with subtle pink [and] coral cheeks and lips.” Tell us: What did you think of Ashley’s head-to toe premiere style last night? –additional reporting by Lisa Ingrassia

Kellie Pickler may be one of country’s most iconic blondes — she’s even impersonated Dolly Parton — but for now, she’s joining a less represented segment of the music community: redheads! The bombshell debuted her newly auburn locks on the red carpet of the CMA Awards tonight, having carefully tucked them under a hat for Parton’s Live from London DVD premiere party on Tuesday night. Pickler joked of the attention her new do is getting on the red carpet, saying, “It seems to be the thing to talk about.” She also gave a shout-out to legendary country redhead Reba McEntire, suggesting that she was joining her ranks since “we’ve got enough blondes in country.” But, she did admit to PEOPLE that she is still adjusting to her new do. “The hair doesn’t make the person, but it has been a shocker. I wake up in the morning and walk by the mirror and I’m like, ‘Who’s that!’ I thought someone broke into my house!” Pickler did manage to find the upside, explaining that, “It’s been interesting with red hair cause you can’t wear the same things. George Clooney’s Girlfriend Takes Her Italian Fashion Allegiance to the Red Carpet

George Clooney might have been the star of the show at the Fantastic Mr. Fox premiere in London on Wednesday, but it was his Italian girlfriend Elisabetta Canalis’s red carpet outfit that really wowed the crowd. The Milan-based television presenter remained loyal to her roots with a head-to-toe Italian outfit. Wearing a long black asymmetric dress with leather detailing by Emilio Pucci, fresh from the label’s Spring/Summer 2010 collection accessorized with Giorgio Armani heels and a Corto Moltedo ‘Susan Bow’ clutch bag, the look was Dolce Vita glam at its best. Gabriele Corto Moltedo, who has a celebrity fan base including Madonna and Naomi Campbell, couldn’t be happier that Canalis chose to wear his bag. “Elisabetta is as graceful as she is sexy,” he tells PEOPLE from his Paris boutique. “Plus, she is super fun and a fellow Italian, it’s perfect!” While stylist and pal Valentina Micchetti tells PEOPLE, “We always choose her outfits together. We are both Italian so, of course, we love Italian designers,” adding “plus we have personal friendships with the designers, so it’s only natural in our eyes.” And Clooney on her arm really does add the perfect finishing touch — bellissima! –Monique Jessen

It’s not just the ladies who have a jam-packed day of primping before hitting the red carpet. Surrogates actor Jordan Belfi gave PEOPLE.com the rundown of how he calmed his nerves and prepped for the premiere of his new flick, costarring Bruce Willis.

7 a.m.: Take advantage of the perfect weather with a morning run alongside the beach in Venice.

7:45 a.m.: Breakfast on the patio of The Firehouse Cafe.

9 a.m.: Weight-train at the gym. A good workout always energizes me for a big day.

11 a.m.: Haircut at The Salon by Maxime in Beverly Hills.

1 p.m.: Do a phone interview with a magazine about my career, my character Adam Davies on Entourage, the upcoming Entourage season finale and the Surrogates.

2:45 p.m.: Pick up my suit from Starworks. It’s a gray pinstripe SPURR suit by one of my favorite menswear designers, Simon Spurr. It fits perfectly — which is good news since the premiere is only a few hours away!

4:45 p.m.: Get dressed for premiere. I’m wearing the suit with a black dress shirt by Hugo Boss and black dress shoes by Bally. I want to look sharp but feel comfortable at the same time so I decide to skip the tie.

6 p.m.: Arrive on the red carpet. Tons of photographers and media outlets. Take pictures, do numerous on-camera interviews along the carpet and say “hi” to the unbelievably huge number of fans outside the premiere.

7:10 p.m.: Say hello to Bruce Willis, visit with director Jonathan Mostow and costar and friend Michael Cudlitz.

9:45 p.m.: Afterparty at ‘Rise at the Highlands’ in the Hollywood and Highland entertainment complex. Good food, drinks, company and Hollywood skyline views.

12 p.m.: Meet up with friends for drinks by the pool at the Roosevelt Hotel. Read earliest reviews and hope for a great opening weekend.

Anna Torv Dishes On Her First Emmys and Her Glam Gown

Everyone dreams of attending a major award show like the Emmys, but what happens when you not only get to go, but you actually present on-stage? We asked Fringe star Anna Torv about her debut Emmy experience and how she picked her dazzling Marc Bouwer dress. She tells PEOPLE, “On Fringe, I spend so much time in black and grey suits and don’t have the opportunity to dress up or wear anything with bright color. So when I first saw the Marc Bouwer dress, I was definitely intrigued. It was surprisingly more comfortable than I thought it would be.” And comfortable is a good thing when you have a few nerves going in to the night. “As I’ve never presented on the Emmys before, let alone attended an event of such magnitude, I was in awe about being part of the night. It really felt like I crawled inside my television.” And just like all of us watching the red carpet, Anna got to see the stars up-close, which had a surprising side effect. “I relaxed my nerves about walking the red carpet when I saw a whole sea of talented actors and understood it wasn’t about me. For me, watching the parade was all the fun of the evening.” We definitely had a great time watching her glide down the red carpet like a pro. Heidi Klum on Her Emmy Dress: “I Can Let It All Hang Out”

Heidi Klum is ready to do her runway walk down the Emmy Awards red carpet, and — weeks away from giving birth to her new daughter — she’s thrilled she won’t be sucking in her tummy. “The great thing about being pregnant and going to these things is that I don’t have to suck my stomach in,” the supermodel and Project Runway host told PEOPLE at Los Angeles Confidential’s pre-Emmy party. “It’s fabulous! I can let it all out.” Klum, who’s nominated as Outstanding Host for a Reality or Reality-Competition Program, revealed that she’ll be wearing a Marchesa gown designed especially for her by Georgina Chapman at Klum’s request. She said she hasn’t put too much thought into prepping around her pregnancy for the big day. “It wasn’t really hard for me, but it was hard for the woman that designed a dress for me,” she laughed about going glam with a baby on board. “She started about two or three months ago and that’s kind of difficult…It’s black because I figure, at eight-and-a-half months, black is better! I think it’s elegant and it’s slimming.” As far as returning to those tummy-sucking-in days, Klum says she doesn’t have any target date to have her famous body ready for bikini and lingerie shoots. “I was asked by Victoria’s Secret if it is possible, if I’m going to make it to their show,” she said. “You never know how you are afterwards, so you kind of have to play it by ear and see what happens. So far – knock on wood – everything was always great. I felt great afterwards and I loved every minute of it, even the sleepless nights of getting up every two hours. But let’s see what happens. As the night’s fashion correspondent for MTV, Ashley Greene got to turn a critical eye on her fellow fashionistas. The New Moon star puts Beyonce, Katy Perry and Taylor Swift on her best dressed list. “In a night where silver, gold and black metallic minis ruled the red carpet, Beyonce stood out in her short red plunging [Roberto Cavalli] mini dress,” Ashley tells PEOPLE. “It was so sexy, yet completely tasteful at the same time.” And while many starlets went for sparkle, it was all about Katy’s mini by The Blonds for Ashley. “There were a lot of sparkly mini dresses, but Katy’s was my favorite,” she says.”The spikes rocked it up a bit and the fit was incredible on her body.” As for Taylor, Ashley admired her for channeling her inner princess. “Taylor looked stunning in her floor-length [Kaufman Franco] gown. I loved that she was one of the few who chose to wear a long dress — she looked straight out of a fairytale,” says Ashley. Miss Piggy called in a fashionable favor from one of the world’s most famous designers — Marc Jacobs! Both Chace Crawford and Taylor Lautner turned up in sharply tailored vests, but wore them quite differently. Penelope Cruz’s Last Minute Wardrobe Snafu: Lost Luggage!

Penelope Cruz may have looked red-hot when she arrived at the U.K. premiere of Broken Embraces today in a flame-colored suit that stole the show, but it turns out that she had to let fate play her fashion stylist for the event after her checked baggage went missing on a flight from Madrid to London. Fortunately, like any Hollywood fashionista, the actress was far from unprepared — and went with a stunning Bottega Veneta suit and wedges that she’d stashed in her carry-on. “I think someone took it. I think it was taken by someone with a fetish,” her director, and long-time mentor, Pedro Almodovar joked to reporters of the lost-luggage. Despite the set-back, however, the premiere was a huge success, and a high-spirited Penelope couldn’t help being captivated her surroundings at the grand Somerset House on the banks of the River Thames. “It is beautiful here — this is my first time here,” she said of the venue, which has been used to film James Bond scenes in the past. And while Somerset House might have been new to her, working with the Almodovar is old hat for the actress, whom she first met when she was 17. “I am working with one of my best friends but something changes when shooting starts and he becomes my director. I feel we are constantly moving,” she told reporters. “He is a genius.” Although she attended the premiere solo, her boyfriend, fellow Spanish actor Javier Bardem, was on her mind, and she revealed that the two took in an “incredible” show by U2 while in Paris earlier this month. “I have seen them many times,” she said, and added that she and Javier had even stayed with Bono at his home on the French Riviera for a few nights after the concert. What happens when you put some of today’s hottest young stars together for one photo shoot? According to AnnaLynne McCord and Brody Jenner, it was nothing but fun. McCord and Jenner are some of the latest stars to helm the Op summer ad campaign, along with Sophia Bush, Joel Madden, Solange Knowles, and Cody Linley. “[With] all these different types of entertainers all coming together, you never know how it’s going to be, but we had a lot of fun,” 90210’s McCord told reporters Tuesday night at the launch party for the campaign at Mel’s Diner in West Hollywood. “We kept asking, ‘are we really working? Is this really job?’ It was awesome!” And working with photographer Larry Bartholomew couldn’t have been more laid back. “[He] was probably the easiest photographer I’ve ever shot with,” said the Hills hunk. “We had a blast. Everybody was very cool, very friendly. I hadn’t met any of these people except for Joel [and] we had a good time!” As for fans of Op, there were plenty to be found on set. McCord confessed her love for the line’s swimwear collection, while Bush, who arrived to the party in head-to-toe Op (even artfully pinning her cardigan with a brooch in the back!), has been wearing the brand since she was young. “I grew up in California and I grew up wearing the clothes. 6am: Going to be a crazy day. Nice long bath, then straight over to an early morning photo shoot with Terry Richardson. They were incredible, fun, crazy pictures. I was wearing men’s clothes, lingerie, dressing up as animals. Such an eccentric shoot.

3pm: Grab some food on-set: Thai curry chicken, pasta and rice. I won’t be able to eat once I go to the CFDAs. I’m wearing white so I definitely don’t want to take the risk of spilling anything on the one-of-a-kind dress Marc Bouwer made for me!

5:20pm: Oops. We had so much fun at the photo shoot, and ran over. Now it’s pouring rain! Here I am looking for a cab, still wearing all the black eye makeup and hot pink lips; my hair is sticking straight out from all the products. I looked like a drowned rat.

5:45pm: Home! Thankfully my dress already got dropped off. Jump into the shower and rinse off faster than I ever have. Didn’t even bother with my hair. It was already soaked with rain. I wanted a sort of a 1920s, old Hollywood, Veronica Lake look. My makeup artist Jasen Kaplan and hairstylist Ricardo Rojas have to work on me like crazy — it’s such a miracle.

6:20pm: Marc Bouwer picks me up, and we head over to the CFDA Awards gala at Lincoln Center. I felt like a princess. My dress was actually sheer white, but I put a nude body suit under it. Thankfully you couldn’t see anything!

6:40pm: Spotted my best friend Michelle Trachtenberg on the red carpet! She said she might be moving to N.Y.C. I’m trying to convince her. She has a couple things in the works, but I’m not allowed to say!

7pm: Heading inside. There are no tables this year or even a cocktail party. It’s more Oscar-style.

8:30 pm: Got to meet Molly Sims and Heidi Klum, who is definitely one of my idols. Saw Blake Lively too. We met when I did Gossip Girl. It is really nice to reconnect with people and catch up.

9pm: The speeches were so moving. Marc Jacobs talked all about his fiance. And wow, Diane Von Furstenberg didn’t even have to use the teleprompter!

9:30pm: I wish I could have met Justin Timberlake. But unfortunately he was on stage, and other than that, he was busy.

10pm: Going downtown! Everybody picks up and moves down to the Calvin Klein event at the Highline. Met up with my sister Gillian and reconnected with Michelle.

12am: Heading home to go to sleep. There’s only so much I can handle!

On Project Runway, Heidi Klum and Michael Kors decide the fate of young designers, who know they are either “in or you’re out.” But in real life, the good friends collaborated on a super-short shimmering maternity dress for Heidi, whose bump was on display at last night’s CFDA Fashion Awards at Alice Tully Hall in New York. Heidi’s input? “I shortened it a little bit, because I shorten everything,” she tells PEOPLE. “I’m a shortener.” Not that Kors was surprised. “I knew she’d shorten it,” says the designer. “I can look at clothes on a hanger and know exactly how it’s going to fit, who it is right for. I’ve been doing this for years. I’m only 26, so I can’t say how long I’ve known her, but I know what works for her, what she likes, and I knew she’d cut it off.” And for his part, Kors loves that Heidi isn’t afraid to bare a little while expecting. “It’s a different kind of maternity,” he says. “Everyone thinks, ‘Oh, when you’re pregnant you should hide in the background. But it’s really all about shimmer and glamour and showing skin and confidence.” And Klum is anything but shy about feeling sexy while expecting. “I feel fantastic,” says Klum of her pregnancy. “Are you looking at my boobs?” she jokes. “I’m already two cup sizes bigger than normal.” Tell us: What do you think of Heidi’s sexy maternity style? — Jeffrey Slonim
