Three Things From the Milan Runways You’ve Gotta See

Fashion Week has migrated to Milan, where the weather has been terrible, the food has been divine and stars as diverse as Hailee Steinfeld and Lana Del Rey have made an appearance. With all the commotion, it’s easy to neglect the main attraction: the clothes. So we picked three things from the Milan runways you shouldn’t miss:

Fox-fur mohawks at Fendi: Karl Lagerfeld continues to show his range, swinging from garden party prettiness for Chanel couture in January to punky, dramatic fur and leather for Fendi last week. Everyone was talking about the models’ unusual dos, which consisted of tight reverse French braids topped with dyed fox fur “fauxhawks” made by Sam McKnight. Not sure this will catch on, but it’s sure fun to look at.

Nicole Kidman Wears Another L’Wren Scott Design Right Off the Runway

Designers, take note: Nicole Kidman doesn’t go to fashion shows just to look. A week after the actress sported a L’Wren Scott creation within hours of the dress coming down the runway at London Fashion Week, she pulled the same move: Kidman showed up to the Oscars in another head-turning gown by the designer, which was spotted on the same catwalk.

The gown she wore last week to the London screening of Stoker was a stunning long-sleeve blue creation, but it was her Academy Awards gown, a black embroidered number with gold beading, that had everyone talking and earned her a spot on our best dressed list.

Must be nice to be a celebrity and get to pluck confections straight off the runway! Tell us: Which L’Wren Scott dress do you like better on Kidman?

Our New Favorite Way to Stay Warm in Style

As February plods along, it can seem like there’s a limit on inventive ways to wear tights, denim and wool — and facing our closets is getting grim. Luckily, Kim Kardashian, Anne Hathaway and Rosie Huntington-Whiteley stepped out in three very different menswear looks to remind us that there are plenty more ways to look cute (and stay warm) this winter.

First, Kardashian skips maternity leggings and oversized sweaters in favor of a sleek, chic and sophisticated monochromatic suit look. The bow-tied blouse and flared pants gave her a retro vibe, but single-sole pumps and a wavy blowout were totally 2013.

Next, Hathaway gave the look a hipster twist by choosing a shrunken Band of Outsiders suit worn over a buttoned-up shirt by the line. Along with her cat-eye frames and shimmering Vince Camuto Oxfords, the star achieved a glam ’60s vibe while still looking super-comfortable.

Finally, Huntington-Whitely proved definitively that suits can be smokin’ in her scarlet Burberry ensemble, worn with a slouchy black tank and delicate chain necklace. And though those barely-there sandals defeat the “warmth” factor we’re looking for, the heat she’s generating with that hair more than makes up for a few chilly moments outdoors.

Tell us: Would you work a suit into your winter wardrobe rotation? Whose look do you like best?

Karlie Kloss, NYFW’s Busiest Model: ‘I’d Pick Sleep Over Champagne!’

Feb/18/2013 at 04:30 PM ET

From the N.Y.C. kickoff to the Paris finales, Fashion Week is really more like Fashion Month, so it’s no wonder that editors are already complaining of exhaustion. But one look at supermodel Karlie Kloss’s schedule should immediately put them to shame.

The 20-year-old fashion world darling closed shows for the biggest names in New York (including Carlina Herrera, Oscar de la Renta and Calvin Klein), fulfilled her duties as Mercedes Benz’s ambassador to Fashion Week, passed out her own Karlie’s Kookies in front of the tents and somehow squeezed in a trip to the Grammys in L.A.

And lest you think she took a break, she was already on the runway for Burberry in London by Monday. “It’s a marathon, not a sprint,” Kloss told PEOPLE at the Mercedes-Benz lounge. “I rushed here straight off the red-eye [from the Grammys] … [but] I know my limits.”

Those limits include curtailing parties during her busiest months. “I am definitely a sleep over champagne kind of girl,” she says. “I’m a hardworking girl, so I have to take care of myself!” On her must-have list: “These stick-on eye patch things that stick to your skin, called Skyn. I almost walk out of the house wearing them,” she shares. “You have to rest while you can, drink water and power through.”

Is there anything that does bother Kloss during Fashion Week? Well, maybe one teensy thing: “In fashion shows nails are almost as much of a statement as the clothes themselves. In every show you’ve got to change,” she says. “It’s awful when I get a great color that I love and I’m like, ‘Dang it, I only get to wear it for the next twenty minutes!’”

Tell us: Do you envy Kloss’s jetsetting lifestyle? How do you keep up your energy during a busy month?

Rihanna’s River Island Collection: No ‘Diamonds,’ Just Rough

Feb/18/2013 at 11:03 AM ET

Of all the adjectives we expected to hear about Rihanna‘s first-ever fashion line (for U.K. chain River Island) — “’90s-inspired” or “skin-baring” among them — we have to admit “horror show” took us by surprise. But fashion critics called it just that, savaging her debut collection for being uninspired, underwhelming and just plain unattractive.

The show, held in an abandoned central London post office, started an hour late and ran for nine minutes — including a brief appearance by the star. It wasn’t difficult to see why the show wasn’t critically beloved, but there’s no denying Rihanna’s influence was clearly visible, from the belly chains to the see-through mesh tops to the high-slit skirts. In fact, a large part of the problem may be that the only person who can pull these clothes off is Rihanna herself.

And while some onlookers (like The Daily Beast’s Tom Sykes) found the collection “porny” and “hideous,” other acknowledge that the designs are likely to sell, no matter how bad: “She’s Rihanna, after all,” shrugged New York Magazine‘s Alex Rees. If you want to judge for yourself, River Island’s Facebook page is replaying the show on loop.

Tell us: What do you think of Rihanna’s debut clothing line? Would you buy any of the pieces?
