Ally Hilfiger’s Behind-the-Scenes Fashion Week Diary

Have you ever wondered what New York Fashion Week is really like behind the glitz and glamour of the front row? PEOPLE checked in with one of fashion week’s newest faces: Tommy Hilfiger’s 25-year-old daughter, Ally, who along with designer Nary Manivong, presented her freshman collection, NAHM on Friday. “I woke up, got on my knees and prayed,” she admits, with only two days remaining before the show. In this exclusive candid of the designers consulting with stylist Lester Garcia, Ally explains, “It’s really busy but it doesn’t feel like work.” However, no task is too small for the budding designer, who spends the day before the show shopping for backstage eats at Trader Joe’s and sending thank you notes. On the big day, Ally is a bundle of nerves, arriving at Milk Studios at 6 am before helping set up and meeting with hair and make-up. The resulting presentation, a semicircle of models clad in the collection’s inventive iterations of the shirtdress, is a testament to hard work paying off. The garments are simple with chic accents including pleats, sheer sleeves and off-kilter buttons. So what does a designer do after her first successful showing at NYFW? “This afternoon I’m planning on taking a nice long nap.”—Justine Harman

It was truly a star-studded event at Wednesday’s night’s Heart Truth’s Red Dress Collection show to kick off Fashion Week at Lincoln Center. With a star-only roster of models in stunning scarlet dresses (below) by a pantheon of designers, the front row fans included Matthew McConaughey (supporting girlfriend Camila Alves in Kaufman Franco), Bill Rancic (cheering on wife Giuliana Rancic in Marchesa) and Susan Sarandon (applauding for daughter Eva Amurri in Chris Benz). Julianne Hough opened the upbeat show in her custom Swarovski crystal necklace and satin gown, even giving a perfect twirl mid-stage. Following waves and giggles from Audrina Patridge, in shimmering Badgley Mischka, and a perfectly-timed dropped strap of her Zac Posen gown by Dita von Teese, Alves hit the stage — and so did McConaughey (almost)! The beaming star lunged out of his front row seat, enthusiastically snapping photos of his gorgeous girlfriend, who walked the runway with the grace and seasoned strut of a true pro. The show ended with Natasha Bedingfield serenading the crowd in a slinky Nicole Miller gown on behalf of sponsor Diet Coke. She got the fashion crowd — and Rancic! — to wave their hands in the air before the models filed out to wild cheering and a standing ovation. – Melissa Liebling-Goldberg

EXCLUSIVE FIRST LOOK: Julianne Hough to Hit the Red Dress Runway in Custom Swarovski

What takes 150 hours to make, has 10,000 crystals, weighs two lbs. and will be worn by one of Hollywood’s bubbliest blondes? No, it’s not a riddle –- it’s the custom Swarovski red dress and heart-themed necklace that Julianne Hough will be modeling in Wednesday’s Heart Truth’s Red Dress Collection Fashion Show. While Hough told PEOPLE at her recent fitting at the N.Y.C. Swarovski showroom that her necklace “feels light on”, she does admit to just the slightest bit of jitters at walking in the star-studded show (fellow models include Audrina Patridge and Giuliana Rancic). “This is my first time walking a catwalk in a runway show. I’m a little nervous but I think I can do it.” Hough jokes that it’s different than her years on Dancing with the Stars because “you have to walk. As long as I’m jumping around, moving my hips, I’m good, but walking in a straight line might be a little difficult.” At least she loves what she’s wearing on the catwalk, calling the shimmering Swarovski crystal necklace and matching satin gown designed by Swarovski Creative Director Nathalie Colin “pretty unbelievable.” But it was the cause behind Red Dress Heart Truth (hearth health for women) and the partnership with Swarovski that drew the Footloose star in. Besides, Hough laughs, “It makes sense. They’re really glitzy and glam-y, and so am I.” Shop for pieces from Swarovski’s Heart Truth collection, inspired by Julianne’s couture piece, on swarovski.com! –Melissa Liebling-Goldberg

Gisele, Ashton and Alessandra Hit the Colcci Runway in Brazil

Gisele Bundchen, Ashton Kutcher and Alessandra Ambrosio Hit the Colcci Runway in Brazil

As if Sao Paulo isn’t sizzling enough, some of the world’s hottest models and one very hunky Hollywood actor turned up the heat during Fashion Week in the Brazilian capital. Gisele Bündchen, the face of Colcci, opened the brand’s show to cheers and screams in a sexy bustier and hot pants. Bundchen tells PEOPLE exclusively, “I have walked in the Colcci show six years in a row. I have grown with the brand that started out in jeans and is now a top selling fashion brand throughout Brazil. The show is always fun and I look forward to doing it each year.” And while Victoria’s Secret Angel Alessandra Ambrosio took to the runway in a variety of sexy styles, it was Colcci’s newest face, Ashton Kutcher, who closed out the show, turning up on the runway for a final walk with Bündchen and brand director Jeziel Moraes. And in case Ashton got cold feet strutting his stuff after a hiatus from modeling, he had plenty of support in the front row from his biggest fan — wife Demi Moore, who brought her youngest daughter Tallulah along. The party continued after the show as the couple dined with Gisele and made an appearance at an exclusive party at the Kiss N’ Fly club, where they danced to electronic music. “I’m just a normal guy. I try to know how things work in the countries I go to so I can be as natural as possible,” Ashton told the Folha de São Paulo newspaper. — reporting by Dom Phillips and Charlotte Triggs

As if we needed another reason to envy Diane Kruger, the style star just pulled off a stunt strictly reserved for fashion royalty: pulling a look directly from the runway! Just barely 48 hours after Karl Lagerfeld showed Chanel’s spring/summer 2011 Haute Couture collection in Paris, the actress attended the Sidaction Charity Gala in a tiered, pink confection fresh off the catwalk. Replacing the look’s demure flats with towering peep toes, Kruger, a former model herself, rivaled Snejana Onopka’s statuesque presence in the off-the shoulder design. A brand loyalist who has posed for the classic French design house and worn their couture designs in the past, one thing’s clear: She’s got one Chanel of a good hook up!–Justine Harman
