Sarah Jessica Parker Wears a Mohawk, Takes the Met Gala Theme Seriously – And We Love It!

We promised you that Sarah Jessica Parker would be taking the Met Gala’s punk theme seriously, and she did not disappoint.

She was head-to-toe fabulous, starting, of course, with the head: she sported a custom “Punk Couture hat” from famed milliner Philip Treacy. “He’s been working on it for the past few weeks,” she said, “and I feel incredibly fortunate that it’s in my custody and care.”

Next up, her striking Giles Deacon dress, “which he came to New York City and cut himself.”

And finally, “we asked Mr. Louboutin to make these boots, just as a nod to the plaid, the flannel that we think of when we think about that particular period,” she said of her ridiculously cool thigh-high tartan boots.

She accessorized with Fred Leighton jewelry as well as her own vintage pieces. And somehow, the star managed to make all those wild elements look perfectly punk in a way that the rest of us never could.

Chopping off her hair for her role in Les Misérables left Anne Hathaway “inconsolable”, but bleaching it blonde for the Met Gala? Well, she seems pretty happy to us.

“I don’t know if you can tell by looking at me but Debbie Harry was kind of an inspiration,” Hathaway told model Hilary Rhoda on the red carpet.

The actress debuted her shocking new hair color Monday night (which we’re absolutely loving by the way), when she arrived with Valentino wearing a sexy black gown from the designer’s 1992 archives.

Exclusive Photos: Julianne Hough’s ‘Fishnet’ Met Gala Hair Look

She’s pretty fearless when it comes to her hair, having recently gone shorter and lighter, but this is by far the most daring do Julianne Hough has ever sported.

In celebration of the Met Gala’s punk theme, the actress opted for an updo that complements the spiderweb-like pattern on her Topshop dress.

“It’s literally like we created a fishnet over the back of her head,” says co-owner of Nine Zero One Salon
Riawna Capri, who jokes that she used “like a hundred” black bobby pins. (Check out this cute behind-the-scenes photo!)

To get the look, which was inspired by something similar Capri spotted on a Zac Posen runway, she prepped Hough’s hair with Vidal Sassoon Pro Series Boost & Lift Foaming Air Mousse for volume in the front and a heat protectant to add shine. After blow-drying she applied Vidal Sassoon Mega Firm Hold Gel before creating three mini ponytails on either side of Hough’s head so the hair would stay taut against her head.

“Basically after that we just pinned and pulled and crossed over throughout until we created the fishnet looking thing.”

Capri used a roller to add lift to Hough’s bangs and after much deliberation, they decided to put her fringe up. She then misted the do with two different Vidal Sassoon hairsprays (“once we decided we loved it, we locked it in with a strong hold formula.”)

We doubt Hough ever went through an actual punk phase, but it appears that she enjoyed her one night as a beauty rebel.

Nicole Richie’s Met Gala Hair: Already In the Night’s Top Ten, and it Hasn’t Even Started

Number 5 on our reasons of “Why We’re Excited for the Met Gala” was “Big Hair.”

And leave it to Nicole Richie to not even make us wait until the red carpet to fulfill our wishes.

PHOTOS: Check out all the star arrivals on the PEOPLE.com homepage starting at 7 p.m.!

The star left her hotel in an elegant, embroidered white gown with a high neck, which she offset with a seriously hair-raising do: an up-combed pompadour spray-painted silver that contrasted with her bronze skin and dark wine lips.

If things are getting this funky before the night even begins, we cannot wait to see what’s on its way to the Metropolitan Museum of Art as we speak.

Red Carpet Trend Report: The Scoop On Red Nails, White Pumps and ’80s Updos

In our weekly round-up of what we’re seeing sizzle (and fizzle) on the red carpet, we saw a lot of white pumps and red nails — and to complete our 1980s flashback, we saw one very elaborate updo straight out of ’87 that made us glad we’re in 2013.

Up: Red nails. Neutral nails? Not this week. We saw bright red talons on everyone from Zoë Saldana to Katy Perry to Florence Welch (not to mention Julianne Hough, above). We tend to reach for the bright pinks and light purples during the spring, but love the way a racy bright red hue revs up a more formal look.

Heidi Klum: Martin’s Already Given Me a Ring

May/02/2013 at 01:00 PM ET

Sharp-eyed Heidi Klum observers may have noticed that she’s been wearing a gold band on her right hand — and that boyfriend Martin Kirsten has a similar one.

And the supermodel put any rumors to rest (though she didn’t give many details) at an event for Clear Scalp & Hair Beauty Therapy, for which she’s the face.

“This is a ring I got from my boyfriend. It’s a present,” she told PEOPLE of the band inscribed at least partially with the word “Martin.”

So what attracted her to her hunky former bodyguard? It could have something to do with the fact that he’s often seen in what Klum thinks is the sexiest thing a guy can wear.

“I love straightforward, ripped, washed-a-hundred-times jeans that just fit really well,” she says, “and a cool t-shirt. I don’t like a guy when he’s overdressed or over-styled. I like it better rugged.”

A far cry from what initially caught her eye about ex-husband Seal, but hey, whatever works!
