Kate Gosselin Changes Up Her Hair — Again!

Justin Campbell/BuzzFoto/FilmMagic

With her divorce from husband Jon behind her, reality star mom-to-eight Kate Gosselin kicked off the new year by enlisting the services of superstar hairstylist Ted Gibson, who helped her trade the signature short hairstyle that got PEOPLE readers talking for sleek layered look that took 20 hours to complete, which she showed off on a recent PEOPLE cover. And this past weekend, Kate continued her transformation, heading back to the What Not To Wear stylist to freshen up the look and get her ready for a Sex and the City-worthy night on the town. “She came in because her own hair has grown,” Gibson tells PEOPLE, “so we changed the length. Now we thought shoulder length would be ideal–we wanted it to be straight, and sexy and moving.” And the reality star couldn’t have been more pleased with the results. “She’s ecstatic about the way the extensions look. We took off about four inches, close to that. That’s one great thing about extensions–she can go back to having it long again, whenever she wants. She can keep changing.” Her stylists, including the salon’s head colorist Jason Backe, even gave her a taste of some of N.Y.C.’s best nightlife to show off the new look. “It was long overdue that she got to go out and have some fun,” Gibson explains of their evening out. Hayden Panettiere Explains Her Newly Red Hair: “I Don’t Feel Like a Blonde Right Now!”

As one of Hollywood’s more recognizable blondes, Heroes star Hayden Panettiere gave new meaning to “red carpet reveal” when she turned up at the Temple Grandin premiere in New York this week with newly auburn hair. As much as we love the new look, such a drastic color change is always a bold move–especially in Hollywood. So our big question for her was, why red now? “Because I could, because I was done with the season,” she explained to PEOPLE. “I was like, ‘I need to change, I need to get myself out of this slot. I don’t feel like a blonde right now!’” In true superstar fashion, the actress didn’t stop with her hair, and had her stylist touch up her brows as well. “I hope they match,” she said, continuing, “Eyebrows very much frame the face.” Despite the color change, Hayden tells us that she isn’t through with the change-ups. “I was going to go dark,” she said of her original hair color plan. “And then I decided to go red first — and then dark.” We can’t wait to see what’s next! The Inspiration Behind Penelope Cruz’s Glowy Golden Globes Look? Uma Thurman!

BEImages

Following a tropical vacation, Pené lope Cruz went for a golden faux-tan on the red carpet at last weekend’s Golden Globes, according to her hairstylist Oribe and makeup artist Scott Barnes. At the launch of his new book About Face this week in N.Y.C, Barnes explained Cruz’s inspiration for her look: “She had just come back from her vacation. And she said, ‘I want to be tan. I want this eye.’ She found it in my book, it was Irina, the sexy Russian model who does the Guess! Jeans ads.” Barnes, who held court with another of his favorite clients, Jennifer Lopez, that evening, also revealed that Cruz, “had remembered an Elle cover I did with Uma Thurman. Uma was really tan and she wanted to look really tan, because she had just come back from vacation.” Makeup artist Oribe weighed in on Cruz’s flowing locks: “I just tried to wave her hair. She wanted to wear it down for the Armani dress. It was just movie star glamour. Wavy, but not too wavy. Just stylized nicely.” And where exactly was Cruz’s vacation-tousled look recreated? “We did it at her home. Real casual and easy and we got her ready probably in an hour and a half, nails and everything done,” says Oribe. “She’s amazing, just a regular girl,” added the hair guru. “Scott brought his book, showed her what he wanted to do. She loved it. It just went very smoothly. Beautiful eye, natural skin, it was a different makeup for her… really special. It made her look really fresh.” –Jeffrey Slonim

EXCLUSIVE FIRST LOOK: Kellie Pickler’s New Pixie Cut

First Kellie Pickler shocked fans by debuting new auburn hair at the CMA Awards, and then just a month later she was back to her signature blonde. Now the country star is giving PEOPLE readers a first look at an equally bold new do — a short crop! So what prompted Kellie to try a pixie cut? “My hair started falling out!” Pickler explains. “It was so damaged I looked like a scarecrow so I chopped it off!” During her recent USO trip to the Middle East, where she entertained and visited with troops in Iraq and Kuwait, her hair began falling out as a result of transitioning from blonde to red and back again. “I had two choices — look like a scarecrow or cut it,” she says. Though the style was dictated out of necessity, Pickler says that she’s pleased with her new look, which recalls one of her own country idols. “Having short hair makes me feel like I set my self apart [style wise] from the other women in country music,” she says. “I remember being in love with Lorrie Morgan’s hairstyles growing up. I’ve always thought she was beautiful and confident.” And what does her boyfriend, Nashville songwriter Kyle Jacobs, think? “Kyle could care less. He’d love me if I was bald, and vice-versa,” she says. “What he and I have is very special. Unconditional. God blessed me with a good man.” And now, also, a very good haircut! Would You Wear Neon Highlights Like Stephanie Pratt?

Peter Brooker/Rex USA

Apparently Heidi Montag wasn’t the only one in the family who was ready for a makeover. Sister-in-law and fellow The Hills star Stephanie Pratt debuted a new look on the red carpet recently, having dyed chunks of her long blond tresses an attention-getting shade of hot pink. We’re not sure what prompted the 23 year-old to give her flaxen hair a punk twist (might she have been inspired by Ashley Olsen’s rainbow-striped highlights?), but it’s certainly a step away from her beachy, Southern California roots. Tell us: What do you think of Stephanie’s neon streaks?

Carey Mulligan Dishes On Her Desire For Long Hair—Despite Her New Look

INF

“I really want long hair,” Carey Mulligan confessed to PEOPLE on Tuesday at the National Board of Review of Motion Pictures Awards gala in New York, where she nabbed the Best Actress prize for her role in An Education, “But I don’t have time to grow it out.” Explaining her freshly-shorn, exceedingly close crop, the Brit actress, who was dressed in a sleek black cocktail shift by Prada and dangly Fred Leighton earrings, said, “It was getting all shaggy. It was all growing out. It gets to that horrible stage where you look homeless.” Hairstylist Didier Malige, who has lived with Vogue’s September Issue star Grace Coddington for the last 20 years — did the trim on Mulligan’s already minimalist tresses. Did Mulligan instruct his scissorhands? “No, I just always have ultimate faith that they’ll fix it,” she said. The shade also migrated just a tad. The color was red for her role in Wall Street 2: Money Never Sleeps (co-starring her real-life beau Shia LaBeouf), and “I’ve been saying it’s red all day,” the 24 year-old explained. “But now I think it’s finally brown. . . brunette.” And what if she gets a role that requires long hair? “I’ll wig it,” quipped Mulligan. Kate Gosselin Is Keeping Her Locks Long — And Her Options Open

INF

Anyone expecting to see Kate Gosselin return to her former notorious, asymmetrical short hair style is in for a long wait. The reality star says she is loving her new, longer locks. “I love my new hair,” Gosselin tells PEOPLE, adding that she’s particularly enjoying it now that she’s embraced a more naturally curly style. “Curly hair is definitely more ‘me’ and more manageable,” she says. “I learned that almost all hair extensions are curly and by ‘going with’ the curl and adding some more curls, it’s easiest.” The new look, created by celebrity hairstylist Ted Gibson and his team, reminds Kate of the last time she had long hair — when she was still in her twenties. “My last long hair endeavor was crazy curly — just like it is now,” she says. “So this feels like the younger me — yay!” Now Kate has almost gotten used to her newest incarnation. “Every day, my hair feels more like it belongs to me, and I am soooo in love — with my hair and Ted Gibson and his awesome staff!” Yet rumors that Kate is set to make another big change are premature. Recent reports that her new reality show with TLC will involve Kate being thrown into various fish-out-of-water scenarios — or, according to other stories, that the show will document Kate re-entering the dating world — are not true, says a network representative. “This is just the latest speculation,” says the rep. “Last week everyone was announcing [that her show would be] ‘Date Kate.’ We are still in development and looking at a number of ideas. When we have determined what the show will be, you will hear directly from us.”
