Your mother probably told you to always keep covered, but stars like Sofia Vergara and Rachel McAdams are making sexy, sheer tops look oh-so-right.

Vergara wore a peek-a-boo black top (plus second-skin leather pants and cute red pumps) on a night out in Los Angeles recently, letting her matching black bra show through. Meanwhile, McAdams made her bold bra statement at a movie premiere, allowing her blue brassiere to show through her fitted cerulean tee.

Both actresses kept the look classy — no tight white tanks and fluorescent bras here! — but we want to know what you think. Vote in our poll and tell us: Would you wear a sheer top and matching bra?

Sure it was Chanel, but was Florence Welch’s head-to-toe black-and-gray ensemble a fashion faux pas? The singer wore the gown and cape while kicking off the annual Harrods post-holiday sale in London Tuesday, but her look raised more than a few well-groomed eyebrows.

Regardless, the singer stunned, belting “What the Water Gave Me” and “Shake it Out” backed by an acoustic guitar. According to U.K.’s Stylist, she was the first musician to ever perform at the legendary sale.

After her brief concert, Welch spoke to Stylist about her personal relationships with designers like Chanel’s Karl Lagerfeld and Gucci’s Frida Giannini, who designed her summer tour costumes. And she revealed that there are a few rising stars she’d someday like to work with. “I love Erdem,” she shared. “I’ve met with Sarah Burton, and as well as being so, so nice, the work she has done at Alexander McQueen is just incredible.”

But during the holidays, Welch put her designer duds aside and kept her look casual — well, almost casual. “I’ve decided that as long as I’m wearing lots of costume jewelry, then I’m dressed,” she joked. “So I spent the whole time in lavish, brightly patterned pajamas, masses of costume jewelry and my paper crown.”

On Saturday, American Horror Story star Suvari covered up in a fur-lined parka, leopard scarf and combat booties. Her only ventilation? Seriously slashed denim.

That same day, Olsen stepped out in N.Y.C. sporting a menswear-inspired overcoat, a doctor’s bag by The Row and black skinnies — with conspicuously cut-out knees.

Two days later, Hudgens, whose penchant for throwback looks has not gone unnoticed this year, rounded out the trifecta. Wearing a cropped shearling and vintage-style accessories, the star completed her look with (what else?) distressed denim.

Dakota Fanning has a sense of style that’s generally spot-on. The young fashionista has relationships with a roster of fabulous designers, and looks put together every time she leaves the house — even if she is just going to class.

But sometimes even the chicest stars can make minor mistakes. Case in point: Fanning wore clear pumps to Marc Jacobs’s spring 2012 presentation in New York in September, a move that’s often considered a fashion faux pas. However, given her age — she’s just 17 — and the light color of her dress, it’s not necessarily an awful decision — maybe she can pull it off. Regardless, we want to know what you think of the look.

SHOP STARS’ HOTTEST FALL SHOES!

Celebs have always looked to French label Isabel Marant for a boho take on casual dressing — hits from the past include ankle wrap “Gava” pumps and go-with-everything suede booties — but this week, the stars can’t get enough of the brand’s tribal-print separates!

On Sunday, Cheryl Cole paired $425 printed corduroy “Silo” skinnies with a cropped boucle jacket for a stylish jaunt through LAX. The next day, mama-to-be Hilary Duff topped the brand’s $1,170 georgette dress with a sculpted blazer for a visit to Good Morning America. Later that same day, Nicole Richie sported a pair of $660 “Renell” jeans with gladiator booties and all-black basics while out in L.A.

WEIGH IN ON MORE FASHION FADS IN: ‘WOULD YOU WEAR THESE TRENDS?’

When Jennifer Aniston showed up to Monday night’s New York premiere of Five, we assumed the Dolce & Gabbana pantsuit she wore to January’s People’s Choice Awards had been repurposed.

However, upon closer inspection, the megastar, who once said she would wear a bathing suit “for as many years as the strings still tie,” was wearing a very similar – but slightly different! — vest ensemble.

Nearly imperceptible differences in the Dolce suits include tailored darts, nominally different pockets, covered buttons and oh yeah, a peek-a-boo corset.

While we think it’s a super chic look — and especially love the way she accessorizes with gold necklaces and voluminous locks — we want to know what you think. Tell us: Would you ever buy a similar look twice?

SEE HOW STARS RECYCLE IN ‘REMIX YOUR WARDROBE’

Rihanna is known as a fashion risk-taker, and she usually manages to pull off whatever out-there outfit she’s sporting. So while her eye-popping red hair would look clownish on lesser celebs, we thought the singer looked pretty cool — and kind of miss it now that she’s back to brunette.

The problem with sporting such a bold shade on your head, though, is that you really have to be conscious about toning down the rest of your look by wearing neutral colors on your eyes, lips and cheeks. But Rihanna is not one for following the rules, so she went out wearing a veritable rainbow: turquoise eye shadow and bright crimson lipstick, which matched her hair.

As per the usual, if anyone can make this look work, it’s Rihanna, but we want to know: Would you wear this many bright colors?

My, what big eyes you have, Katharine McPhee! The smoldering Smash star made a bold beauty statement on the red carpet in New York City last week, sporting exaggerated winged eyeliner at a party celebrating the grand opening of the New Balance Experience store. The dramatic look, complemented by minimal makeup and a simple bun, really made her eyes pop.

McPhee is one of several leading ladies to work the look lately: Angelina Jolie, Jessica Alba and Olivia Wilde have all tried the cat-eye look, and that extra bit of black liner is practically Lauren Conrad‘s trademark beauty move.

But sometimes, their style choices make us wonder: could we ever wear that? On a recent trip to her family’s Calabasas, Calif., Dash boutique, eldest sis Kourtney Kardashian donned a denim jumpsuit, complete with a front zipper, pockets and rolled-up sleeves. Thanks to her petite frame, the look flatters the chic mama, but we’re not necessarily sure we’d ever suit up in head-to-toe denim — let alone a one-piece look! Fergie‘s risk-taking ways are evident in her edgy ensembles — and that same ‘anything goes’ attitude often extends to her beauty choices. This time around, the singer chose to embrace the bright, bold eye shadow that’s going to be all the rage this summer. Though we’ll probably add a hint of a sheer blue or green to our lids for a subtle pop on those balmy June nights, Fergie — perhaps in an effort to match her neon dress — recently decided to go for a dramatic, opaque swathe of hot orange shadow above her eyes. Take it from the A-listers: nerd-chic might just be back in style. Cameron Diaz took a step toward the trend recently, sporting suspenders at the New York City celebration of pal Gwyneth Paltrow‘s new cookbook, My Father’s Daughter, on Monday. Diaz paired her braces with an all-white ensemble consisting of fitted jeans and a see-through tank, with pink pumps to complete the look. While everyone from Fergie to Lauren Conrad has tried the suspender trend in the past, Diaz is the latest star to strap on a pair. Though the dog days of summer are still weeks away, we can already predict that our hairstyle of choice will be a chic and easy chignon. We’re also partial to a low, ballerina-style bun, and we love a topknot or even a side bun on occasion, too — gotta keep that hair off your neck on humid August afternoons! One style we’ve never tried, though, is the front bun, like the one Thandie Newton sported to a London Louis Vuitton event recently. While Newton is gorgeous enough to pull off pretty much hairstyle she tries, this might be the one bun that we’re not totally sure about trying out. Tell us: Would you rock a front bun like Newton? But what really caught our eye were her sheer black socks, which were tucked oh-so-subtly into her strappy Pollini sandals. Before you knock the Sucker Punch star’s look, know that she’s actually working a runway trend: designers at Burberry and Christian Dior sent models down the catwalk last fall in socks paired with peep-toed shoes. Up top, she rocked a super-blunt bob, softened by iridescent light green eyeshadow and pale pink lips. Ever since the spring runways put the focus on bright eyeshadow last September, we’ve been looking forward to setting aside our grays and browns for pops of purple, blue and green. And while we thought that we’d wait until the weather warms up, Rachel McAdams beat us to the trend by wearing an eye-popping shade of neon yellow along her lash lines in the dead of winter. We definitely applaud her for taking a risk and shunning the red carpet’s standard neutrals, but we might save these super bright hues for summer months. We have already seen literal interpretations of menswear for the ladies, but fashion’s boldest trendsetters re-imagined the trend in a variety of ways — all in the last day! The latest iterations of the look range from the risqué to the buttoned-up, but always include stylishly sexy details. Tuesday night, Cate Blanchett opted for a black-and-white look, selecting crisp white trousers and shiny lapels for the IWC “A Night in Portofino” gala in Geneva, Switzerland. In L.A., Camilla Belle was spotted pairing high-waisted tuxedo trousers with a gauzy nude bandeau, revealing her toned abdomen at the premiere of From Prada to Nada. And back across the pond, Kylie Minogue ramped up a classic suit with a sheer blouse, breezy bow and crimped updo. Beyoncé has recently gotten into heavy metal–of the legging variety, that is. The singer was spotted making the rounds in N.Y.C. this week, looking extra-edgy in a studded E-label liquid leggings. Instead of shying away from the bold style, the singer ratcheted up the look’s volume with a black motorcycle jacket, Wildfox slogan T-shirt that reads, “Love is Everything” and her favorite Illesteva sunglasses. We’re used to seeing studs on purses, jewelry and even on jackets, but there’s something about seeing them go down the front of pants that make us a little wary of their actual wearability for those of us that aren’t international pop stars.
