Elizabeth Olsen: My Sisters Don’t Dress Me

Sundance Style Spotlight: Elizabeth Olsen
Justin Campbell/Startraks

Her reign as an indie darling continues, but Elizabeth Olsen is a reluctant fashion plate.

“I’m actually not very good with all this designer stuff,” the 22-year-old tells Refinery29. “I just know basic ones.”

For a newcomer, however, her learning curve is rather impressive. Along with Marni and Céline, she swears by edgier labels including Isabel Marant and Carven. “I wore an orange floral Proenza Schouler dress that I was like obsessed with to the W magazine pre-Golden Globes party,” she gushes of a recent standout look (left).

And though she’s Mary-Kate and Ashley’s little sister, don’t credit The Row designers with Elizabeth’s ingénue style. ”I don’t live with them, and they don’t dress me,” she says. “Like, I’m an adult, ha!”

But that doesn’t mean she hasn’t shopped her sisters’ closets before. “I used to do it a lot more, but I’ve overgrown them by a lot,” she admits. “I overgrew them in high school, and then all of my friends started getting their hand-me-downs.”

Nina Garcia’s Favorite Holiday Shop? Target!

Project Runway's Nina Garcia Shops at Target
Mark Davis/PictureGroup

In addition to her duties as fashion director at Marie Claire and a Project Runway judge, Nina Garcia is also a proponent for frugal fashion.

“I was at Target last week and went crazy,” she tells Racked. “I found the cutest charcoal sequined clutch for $17! It has a strap to wear cross-body or you can tuck the strap inside — voilà! Two different looks. My rule during the holidays is if it sparkles and shines and makes you feel fancy, wear it!”

That said, she always comes back to a less is more principal. “Coco Chanel gave us the best wisdom here: Before leaving the house, a lady should stop, look in the mirror, and remove one piece of jewelry,” she suggests. “If you are wondering if it’s too much, it probably is.”

And one thing that’s always too much? “No one over the age of 10 should buy Crocs — unless you are Mario Batali,” she says definitively.

VIDEO: Mulberry Throws a Star-Studded (and Very British) Fashion Show!

Could dogs be the must-have of the spring 2012 season? On the heels of Isaac Mizrahi’s dyed poodles, Mulberry models hit the runway with schnauzers! “The moment I saw them, I couldn’t stop laughing!,” first-row attendee Kirsten Dunst told PEOPLE. Other highlights for her? “I loved the colors, the flowy dresses and skirts.” Designer Emma Hill said her starting point for the collection came from Roald Dahl’s fairytale The Fantastic Mr. Fox, but she’s been inspired by another famous Brit recently: Kate Middleton, who has been spotted with a Mulberry clutch. “She is like an ambassador for Britain, and I think it is amazing to see that,” Hill said. “It was genuine that she liked it.” Any chance of the princess-to-be getting a namesake bag, like fellow English style icon Alexa Chung? “You will have to wait and see!” Hill teased. “We’re not much for naming things after people…but never say never!” – reporting by Dimi Gaidatzi

Spotted: Stars’ Cozy Sundance Accessories

Celeb Sundance Fashion

It may be frigid in Salt Lake City, but the stars in town for the Sundance Film Festival have figured out that the best way to punctuate the snowy landscape is with eye-catching accessories! A-listers including Demi Moore, Liv Tyler, Elizabeth Olsen and Kate Bosworth don’t sacrifice style for warmth by accenting winter wear with a variety of seasonal accoutrement. Ashton’s gal chose industrial lace-up booties to trudge through the snow while Tyler, in town on behalf of her dramatic film The Edge, stayed toasty in a fuzzy hat with ear flaps. Newcomer, and little sister to Mary-Kate and Ashley, Olsen kept the freeze out with a cozy wraparound scarf and burgundy beret, which she paired with on-trend leather leggings. And Bosworth, who has two films at the festival, avoided hat hair with cute buffalo check earmuffs. With adorable extras like these, we say: Let it snow, let it snow, let it snow! It’s a very couture Christmas for the Kardashian clan! Though the family has a history of elaborate tidings–check out this retrospective through the years–this year’s greeting highlights the family’s fearless sense of fashion. Monica Rose, who dressed the whole fam minus Bruce, Lamar and Scott, says that styling the Kardashians was completely drama free.”We didn’t do any fittings before the shoot,” she tells PEOPLE. Though she had “several options for both Khloe and Kim,” Rose “chose to do more of a princess style Monique Lhuillier dress for Khloe” and for Kim, “sleek and chic white Emilio Pucci.” Saying, “I think these looks really suit each of the girls and their individuality.” In the photograph by Nick Saglimbeni, Kim looks like a Grecian bombshell in her stark white column gown, vintage earrings and a piled-high top bun. Outspoken Khloe looks unusually demure in her fairytale gown reminiscent of her wedding dress, while hubby Lamar Odom looks dapper in a tailored suit. The most daring look of the bunch belongs to Kourtney who makes an on-trend statement in an Alexander McQueen tuxedo jacket, leopard Dolce & Gabbana blouse and Christian Louboutin stackers. “It was actually Kourtney’s idea to wear a tuxedo for the Christmas Card,” says Rose. “I loved it!” Even baby Mason is showing off his sartorial stripes in a custom Astor & Black suit, Ralph Lauren shirt and Pucci pocket square. And while the whole family looks totally posh, we can’t tell which look is our favorite. See more behind the scenes photos at celebuzz.com.Tell us: Who looks the most glam in the Kardashian Christmas Card? Would You Mix Animal Prints Like Kourtney Kardashian?

Kourtney Kardashian Goes Wild for Leopard Prints
Pacific Coast News

It may be chilly in N.Y.C., but that didn’t stop Kourtney Kardashian from heating things up with a leggy leopard-on-leopard look for an early appearance on the Today show. Promoting her new autobiographical tome Kardashian Konfidential with sisters Khloe and Kim early Monday morning, the eldest Kardashian takes the ubiquitous leopard trend to new heights, pairing spotted nylons with platform calf hair pumps. To avoid a costume feel, she opts for a slight pattern change between the two animal prints, offering an interesting juxtaposition between the patterns. To complete the look, the reality star errs demure, keeping it simple with a black alice + olivia by Stacey Bendet bouclé swing coat. And while the reality star pulls off this wild look with polish, we’re not so sure if this trend is for everyone. Tell us: What do you think of Kourtney’s mixed animal prints?
