We were hesitant to believe the ’90s were back when Saint Laurent sent grunge down the runway, or when our style icon Diane Kruger wore overalls or we saw tie-dyed jeans out and about.

But there’s no denying that the decade has returned in a big way with this latest development: Spring Breakers stars Vanessa Hudgens and Selena Gomez have been sporting face jewelry and faux-bindis, just like Gwen Stefani did back in the day.

Five Lessons We Learned from ‘What Not to Wear’

Mar/07/2013 at 03:20 PM ET

What Not To Wear is coming to an end after 10 seasons, and you better believe that after watching countless hours of Stacy London and Clinton Kelly make over some of America’s most hopeless cases, we’ve absorbed a few rules. Below, we rounded up the five most important tenets of the stylish duo’s show:
1. BAGGY IS AS BAD AS IT GETS
The most common way to hide pudge (cover it with shapeless garments) is also one of the biggest issues the hosts have with subjects’ wardrobes. “[You're] making yourself look worse,” Clinton once told a fan of gaucho pants and oversize sweaters, before convincing her to try slimming dresses with defined waistlines.

With the Oscars a mere two days away, we’ve got red carpet attire on the brain. And if star style continues as it has been for the past week, we’ll be seeing be lots of stiff hairstyles — and possibly a few midriff sightings! — on Hollywood’s biggest night. And surprisingly, we’re betting to see fewer nude dresses than ever before. Here’s why:

Up: Slicked-Back Hair. Have certain stars been borrowing their boyfriends’ hair gel? Anna Paquin, Emmy Rossum and Jennifer Lawrence all have sported severe, almost wet-looking hairdos, a major departure from the soft waves that ordinarily dominate the red carpet.

Our New Favorite Way to Stay Warm in Style

Feb/19/2013 at 09:00 AM ET

As February plods along, it can seem like there’s a limit on inventive ways to wear tights, denim and wool — and facing our closets is getting grim. Luckily, Kim Kardashian, Anne Hathaway and Rosie Huntington-Whiteley stepped out in three very different menswear looks to remind us that there are plenty more ways to look cute (and stay warm) this winter.

First, Kardashian skips maternity leggings and oversized sweaters in favor of a sleek, chic and sophisticated monochromatic suit look. The bow-tied blouse and flared pants gave her a retro vibe, but single-sole pumps and a wavy blowout were totally 2013.

Next, Hathaway gave the look a hipster twist by choosing a shrunken Band of Outsiders suit worn over a buttoned-up shirt by the line. Along with her cat-eye frames and shimmering Vince Camuto Oxfords, the star achieved a glam ’60s vibe while still looking super-comfortable.

Finally, Huntington-Whitely proved definitively that suits can be smokin’ in her scarlet Burberry ensemble, worn with a slouchy black tank and delicate chain necklace. And though those barely-there sandals defeat the “warmth” factor we’re looking for, the heat she’s generating with that hair more than makes up for a few chilly moments outdoors.

Tell us: Would you work a suit into your winter wardrobe rotation? Whose look do you like best?

The Coolest Coat in Hollywood Is Straight From ‘Sesame Street’

Some stars check out the runways for style inspiration, others keep tabs on Pinterest, and still others look to a certain children’s TV show for fashion tips — at least if these celebs’ current outerwear of choice is any indication.

Kourtney Kardashian, Sarah Jessica Parker and Ellen Pompeo all recently stepped out in brightly colored alpaca coats, which definitely have a “Cookie Monster Couture” vibe.

The reality star (left) first wore the popular topper last month, when she chose a mint Skaist Taylor creation paired with an orange blouse and white pants. Then just last week, Parker tried the trend in the form of a blue double-breasted alpaca coat from NoNoo, plus a black plaid dress. And most recently, Pompeo donned a fuzzy ruby version with a white tee and leather skinnies on Monday night.

We like to think we’re fairly on top of trends, but we’ll admit that this week, the most popular red carpet looks had us scratching our heads. Surprisingly, platform heels seemed to be having a huge moment (after weeks of single-sole pumps) and stars appeared to be paying tribute to Cupid’s upcoming big day. Meanwhile, the ever on-trend topknot is nowhere to be seen. Read on for the details…

Up: Peep-toe Platforms. Expect to see lots of super-tall celebs at the Grammys. Stars seem to be trading style for comfort, because we’re noting way fewer sexy (read: painful) sandals and many more open-toe stackers. Hayden Panettiere, Jennifer Lawrence, Jennifer Garner and Sarah Hyland all put their best foot forward this week in the inches-adding heels.
