Kate's Post-Baby Style: What Can We Expect?

The Duchess of Cambridge‘s famously classic style didn’t miss a beat during her pregnancy, and now that the heir is born, we can’t imagine that she’ll suddenly start wearing sweats and a topknot.

And U.K. fashion expert Hilary Alexander agrees that we’ll be seeing more of the same lovely dresses — like the one she wore to introduce Baby Cambridge — as the Duchess enters her first few months of motherhood.

“Coming out of the hospital, she wore a very simple, pretty dress from one of her favorite designers,” Alexander said of Kate’s Jenny Packham polka-dots, adding of the dress’s forgiving cut, “She’ll stick to an empire line for the first month. At the moment, in this heatwave in London, the looser, the lighter, the better.”

That means that the sweatpants aren’t an option — even if the Duchess wanted them to be. “It’s just too hot for tracksuits,” Alexander said. “Maybe sleeveless maxi dresses or caftans in pure cotton — anything that is cool. Something easy to wear, [perhaps from] her favorite high street stores: Reiss, Hobbs, Whistles.”

The day the Duchess steps out in a caftan, we’re going to need to be immediately alerted, but judging by her blissed-out expression holding the baby on the St. Mary’s steps, it may be a while before she leaves the nursery again!

Most pregnant girls dread black tie affairs. For starters, they can’t hit up the open bar. Plus, “formal” and “maternity wear” weren’t really meant to live in the same sentence.

Jamie-Lynn Sigler, however, isn’t most expectant moms. The star, who’s having a son with fiance Cutter Dykstra, looked absolutely stunning in this sequined Pamella Roland design, complete with sheer sleeves and a plunging neckline.

Kim Kardashian's Maternity Style: Two Steps Forward, One Step Back

It seemed like Kim Kardashian was really getting the hang of this maternity style thing. After a few outfits that looked more than a little uncomfortable (and had us offering the unsolicited suggestion that she may want to loosen up) she finally did just that.

Lately, Kardashian’s been embracing the comfy, stretchy leggings and cute flats she’d promised to look into, and was pairing them with relaxed, flattering tops and jackets (including the Pea in the Pod maternity leggings and white top she wore with a printed jacket in Paris). Both looks were comfortable and cute, while still unmistakably “Kim.”

Kim Kardashian may say that pregnancy isn’t as easy as she thought, but she certainly doesn’t show it. She’s as busy as ever, with a new high-fashion maternity outfit for every occasion –and she’s loving it.

“It’s definitely fun! I’m enjoying figuring it out,” the Temptation actress tells PEOPLE of learning to dress her new bump. “Either you go tight and you really show it off, or there’s the muumuu style that’s perfect for tall, skinny model types.”

Her personal favorite maternity wear: leather leggings. She wears them so often, she’s even commissioned a pair from her Kardashian Kollection for Sears. “I think leather leggings are super stylish but comfy,” she explains, leading to speculation her baby will be born wearing a pair. “That’s what Kourtney says all the time!” she agrees, laughing.

Style Rx: It's Okay to Wear Maternity Clothes, Kim!

Who: Kim Kardashian

Where: Headed to a photo shoot in Los Angeles

Diagnosis: This seems to be a recurring case with our patient lately, as she’s chosen many peplum tops and dresses throughout the early stages of her pregnancy. Fine, but this particular pair of pants, while defining our subject’s waistline, has a ruffle right around what’s usually the widest part on any woman: the hips. The off-color animal print induces vertigo, and the too-tight top might make breathing difficult.

Prescription: A day of shopping at a maternity store. With several months to go in her pregnancy, our patient should stock up on flowy, flattering dresses, tops and bump-friendly jeans that say, “ahhh,” not, “AHHH!” We’re glad to see our subject taking such advice to heart already, and hope she continues to use our antidote as prescribed.

Why Kim Kardashian Wears Super-Tight Clothes — Even While Pregnant

If Kim Kardashian‘s second-skin wardrobe (still continuing into her second trimester) has you raising your eyebrows, you’re not alone. But the reality star wants you to know that she’s not just wearing super-tight clothes to look sexy, but because looser clothes don’t flatter her hourglass shape.

“I think because I have big boobs it could make me look heavier if I don’t, like, show off my waist or something,” Kardashian says in the new issue of Du Jour magazine. “So I just have kind of learned to dress one way only.”

The mom-to-be has learned over time that she can’t try new things, stylewise, the way her sisters can. “Khloé can wear flowy, pretty things because she’s really tall. Kourtney is, like, really little,” she says. “I’m just kind of in between, so it doesn’t really work.”

The magazine cover marks Kardashian’s first pregnancy photoshoot, though her baby bump is obscured throughout most of the beachy, “Tahitian goddess” shots by Bruce Weber. Click here to read Kardashian’s full Du Jour story, in which she also dishes on her divorce, privacy and her family. Tell us: Do you think Kardashian’s sexy maternity style is appropriate?
