Would You Join Hollywood’s Latest Cape Crusaders?

The ridiculously cold weather in N.Y.C. this week has all the StyleWatch editors reaching for creative ways to keep warm, yet even the most fashion-forward of us have not taken the bold step of topping off our outfits with a cape. After seeing four stars in four days stepping out in these dramatic jackets, however, we’re thinking we may need to get on board this trend train.

First, Leslie Bibb bundled up at Sundance in a buttoned Coach number. Then Sophia Bush was spotted at an Inauguration party in a sweeping Mango cape. Kim Kardashian brought her usual sartorial drama in a cloak draped over her menswear ensemble at Paris Couture Week, and on Wednesday, Zooey Deschanel did her quirky-girl thing in a magenta Corey Lynn Calter creation.

Who’s that girl with the cute movie-themed manicure? It’s Zooey Deschanel!

The New Girl star one-upped her 2012 Golden Globes nails (little tuxedos), going with a camera and filmstrip theme at tonight’s awards. L’Oréal Paris consulting nail expert Tom Bachik created the continuous design — “serial nails,” as Deschanel called them while speaking to E! — using a neutral base polish plus white, black and gold hues. Deschanel wore a bold red Oscar de la Renta gown, finishing her look with a perky ponytail.

Since showing off her nails on the red carpet at last year’s Globes, Deschanel has become known for her nail art, standing out especially at the 2012 Emmys, when she wore tiny TVs on her fingers.

“I love nail art,” the actress said recently. But it’s not something she thinks too hard about when pulling together a red carpet look. “Usually, it might be inspired by something, but it might be just be, ‘Oh, that seems cool.’” Well, we think these film-inspired nails are definitely cool! Zooey Deschanel Reveals Her Bad Beauty Habit

Looking at Zooey Deschanel’s Instagram page, you’d assume it’s her nails she’s obsessed with. But it turns out the star is actually much more particular about her hair.

“I love my hair, that’s a part of who I am,” she tells PEOPLE. “I don’t like having short hair — I don’t feel like myself.”

As for dip-dyeing or going blonde? Fuggedaboutit. “I’ve always liked having a ‘normal’ hair color,” she says. “I’ve never had ‘weird’ hair … never really wanted it.”

Though the New Girl star proclaims that she doesn’t feel “beholden to any look,” she’s also limited with the changes she can make. “I’m on a show, so it’s not like I can cut my hair off,” she explains. “I also have a Pantene contract, so I don’t think they would like it.”

However, she can change those nails — though she only elects to sometimes. “I love nail art, but I don’t care about my nails,” she shares. Like, really doesn’t care. ”If I don’t have my nails done, I’ll bite them. I don’t take care of them.”

And while she’s opted for some super-fun nail art at recent awards shows — the Golden Globes and Emmys among them — don’t expect to see her at your local nail salon trying the latest OPI shade anytime soon. “I’ll get [a manicure] every once in a while, but I don’t have time,” she says. “When I do the show, I just have plain nails.” Tell us: Are you particular about your hair length and hue?

Zooey Deschanel‘s name might conjure images of her “adorkable” New Girl character, Jess, but in daily life, the actress doesn’t feel tied to a specific, signature look.

“I’m completely [by the] seat of my pants,” she tells PEOPLE of choosing outfits. “I’m totally an intuitive decision maker — I am never calculating, especially about that sort of thing. I’ve always just been interested in wearing what I like.”

Though Deschanel isn’t opposed to experimenting with her look — which she simply describes as “feminine and fun” — there is one item you’ll never see her wearing: sweats.

“It’s so annoying,” she says, “every time I leave my house I’m supposed to look polished … I’m jealous of people who can put on sweatpants and go get a coffee.”

It’s the same story with footwear. “Sometimes I don’t realize how uncomfortable [my shoes are] until I’m out of the house,” she shares. “There have been a number of times at events where I’ve been like, ‘I wish I was wearing flats.’” Zooey, we feel your pain. There were lots of major manis at Sunday night’s Emmy Awards, but Zooey Deschanel’s was by far the most fun (hmm … doesn’t that sound familiar?!). The New Girl star, and best actress nominee, tried a peachy hue this time around, adding sparkles to her digits and tiny TVs to her thumbs.

We know which style stars we were talking about during Sunday night’s Emmy Awards — but what did you think?

According to Facebook, the leading lady on our best dressed list with the most buzz last night was none other than Sofia Vergara (perhaps that wardrobe malfunction had something to do with it). But she wasn’t the only one who had Facebook users talking.

Christina Hendricks, who hugged her curves in a belted Christian Siriano gown, was the second-most discussed actress of the night, followed by newly single (and svelte) Amy Poehler, leggy Heidi Klum and Zooey Deschanel, who chose a princess-like gown for her big night out.
