Oct/30/2013 at 05:57 PM ET

Maybe your boss has told you he plans to enforce the “trick” in “trick-or-treat” on anyone who doesn’t dress up tomorrow. Perhaps you’re caving to pressure and going to that party after all. Or maybe you’re just looking to get out of putting together an actual outfit in the morning. For whatever reason, you need a last-minute Halloween costume that you can do either with things already in your closet, or with a quick trip to the drugstore. Here are our suggestions, all inspired by your favorite celebs.

Confession: We watch a lot of TV. Which means we (like you) spend a lot of time yelling at the screen, “Where do I get that (fill in the blank?).” This week, there were more than a few of those moments, so we decided to track them down — and to fill you in on our small screen sleuthing.

Better From the Back? See the Rear View of Vera Farmiga's Emmys Gown

Sep/23/2013 at 03:43 PM ET

High neck. Sleeves. Full-skirt. After seeing actress Vera Farmiga’s dress from the front, we were ready to write it off as another basic black demure ball gown. And then we saw her Theyskens’ Theory dress from behind and we had to rescind our original commentary.

Because the design features an open back that dips so low, we were almost expecting Farmiga’s underwear to make an appearance at the Emmys. Scratch the word demure from our description.

Add that to the fact that the skirt on the Bates Motel star’s dress is crazy-voluminous (“It’s like the butt bump on Cinderella’s stepsisters’ dresses,” astutely observed one editor) and we officially could no longer use the adjective basic either.

We’ve already doled out some major Emmys beauty superlatives (Lena Dunham, we’re looking at you … and your eyeshadow). But on Monday morning, we woke up with the urge to zero in on the best smiles and nails of the night. 5 Gowns Worth Seeing on the Emmys Red Carpet ... So Far

Stars are arriving at the Emmy Awards so fast that it’s making our fashion-loving heads spin. But here are some of the first looks to hit the red carpet that you definitely don’t want to miss.

Heidi Klum is apparently a fan of the turtleneck trend because she selected a burgundy beaded Atelier Versace gown complete with a train.

And speaking of interesting necklines: Mindy Kaling. The Mindy Project star wears a short-sleeve plum Edition by Georges Chakra gown. It fits her perfectly, but style editors here are divided on what’s goin’ on at the décolletage. What are your thoughts?

RELATED PHOTOS: The fifteen most memorable Emmys style moments — right here!

Zooey Deschanel went out of her comfort zone, opting for a silvery-blue J. Mendel column gown with a thigh-high slit, a keyhole cutout and yes, even an open back. The New Girl star accessorizes the look with a sparkly Edie Parker silver clutch and, perhaps most shocking of all: no themed mani.

Taylor Schilling is showing a lot of skin in her pale Thakoon gown, which boast a high center-slit and a very sexy side view.

And finally, we’re all talking about Connie Britton’s strapless Naeem Khan gown with its golden embellishment. What exactly we’re talking about: the material (you’re not seeing things; it is, in fact, velvet). Say what you want about it, but we think we can all agree on one thing: Her hair is perfect, per usual.

So, what do you think of this first round of must-see gowns? Do you love any of them? Do you have another favorite look?

It’s no secret that we love nail art around here, and judging by all your submissions to our YourTurn challenge, we have a sneaking suspicion you do too.

So for our August issue, we need you to weigh in on which celeb’s manicure from the past year you most want to try. Is it Rihanna‘s tribute to Benjamin Franklin? Zooey’s cute tux nails? Katy Perry‘s assorted cutesy-pie illustrations (like cupcakes and music notes?) Kelly Osbourne’s bows, or perhaps Alexa Chung’s evil eyes?

Vote in the poll below, then check out our August issue to see whose nails nabbed the top spot!

Style Rx: Is It Possible Zooey Deschanel Is Actually Stuck In These Tights and Can't Get Out?

May/17/2013 at 09:00 AM ET

Who: Zooey Deschanel

Where: At the Fox upfronts in N.Y.C.

Diagnosis: We grow increasingly concerned that she is stuck in the same pair of black tights and cannot remove them. We’re all for having a “thing,” but when that “thing” makes us sweaty and uncomfortable by association, we become a little less supportive.

RELATED PHOTOS: Vote on questionable star style in “Obsessed or Hot Mess?”

Prognosis: Zooey, we’ve noticed you’re experimenting with your bangs lately, and that’s super. We recommend riding that experimental wave and trying a few A-line skirt outfits — sans tights. No major changes to your wardrobe are needed; just one quick check of Weather.com before heading out the door would keep your red-carpet style fun, feminine and yet climate-appropriate.

Tell us: Do you agree, or are you into the tights?
