You get an invitation to a black tie event. Do you:
A) Go through your closet, hoping that prom dress you saved will still fit?
B) Pick up something elegant and refined that you can wear again?
C) Choose the most skin-baring, jaw-dropping, whiplash-inducing gown you can find that sort of defeats the purpose of wearing a gown in the first place?
If you answered C, congratulations! You are right on trend with Hollywood’s latest parade of red carpet attire.

Red Carpet Trend Report: The Scoop on Formal Pants, Red Manis and Putting Away Your Lace-Up Peep Toes

Nov/01/2013 at 04:50 PM ET

In our weekly roundup of the looks that are gaining fashion ground (and the ones losing their style street cred), we noticed pants replacing dresses at fancy events, a rise in fire-engine red manis and pair of shoes that needs to be retired for now.

Up: Formal pants. This week was less about the LBD and more about the FFP (Fancy Formal Pant… genius we know). And stars did it in a very classy, sophisticated way. Molly Sims wore a pair of lace-embellished trousers and coordinating Stella McCartney top at PSLA’s 4th Annual Autumn Party. Jamie Chung had an all-white moment in ankle-length trousers and a V-neck peplum top at a screening of Diana in N.Y.C., and Gwyneth Paltrow teamed her cropped bottoms with a belly-button baring top at a dinner to celebrate The Conversation in London. And giving more of an Olivia Pope vibe, Allison Williams (and her new hair) topped her white flare-hem trousers with a bright orange oversize coat (all Calvin Klein collection) at a L’Oréal Paris lunch in N.Y.C.

This Week's Best Dressed Star: Catherine Zeta-Jones's Leggy Lace Look Beats the Competition

We know a black dress is always a StyleWatcher fave. So our jaws didn’t hit the floor when Catherine Zeta-Jones nabbed the No. 1 spot on the Top 10 Most-Loved Looks list this week.

The pretty lace fabric, sweetheart neckline and high-low hemline on her Maria Lucia Hohan gown (that she wore to the Red 2 premiere in L.A.) had all the makings of a winning ensemble, scoring over 30,000 “Love It” votes to edge out the rest of the competition.

But the actress’s victory wasn’t by a huge margin. Dame Helen Mirren came in less than 2,000 votes behind her Red 2 co-star in an elegant Elie Saab gown and a pair of stripper heels we’ve been buzzing about all week.

Rounding out the top five, Ashlee Simpson’s boho-chic fringe blouse and embellished Sachin + Babi mini skirt combo, Zoë Saldana who went super casual in black jeans and a tee (or what we like to call the got-to “Guy Hot” outfit) and Gabrielle Union who looks like a total smokeshow in her simple tank dress.

To see who made the rest of the top 10, check out the Most Loved list here, and tell us: Did Zeta-Jones deserve the top spot this week? If not, who did?

Red Carpet Trend Report: The Scoop on All White, Oversized Cuffs and the Death of the Pajama Top

In our weekly search of what we’re seeing sizzle (and fizzle) on the red carpet, we saw lots of white-on-white looks, some seriously awesome arm candy and the return of the pajama top (which really needs to be put to bed).

Up: All-white outfits. Celebs are totally exercising their right to wear white now that the warm weather is finally here. Kerry Washington perfectly demonstrates how to execute the monochromatic look in this Giambattista Valli midi, Nancy Gonzalez clutch and Christian Louboutin pointy-toe pumps. On the same style page, Angelina Jolie, Sienna Miller, Emma Roberts and Jamie Chung also ditched dark hues on the carpet.
