Do You Match Your Accessories Like Vanessa?

We already know she looks good in short-shorts, but at a recent SELF magazine event, Vanessa Minnillo confessed to PEOPLE that her real weakness is perfectly matched accessories. “I’ve gotten into purses and sunglasses like it’s my job,” the TRL host told us. “I have to match my purse with my outfit as well as a great pair of shades. Like if I have on gold hoops and gold in my bag I won’t wear silver rimmed sunglasses. I’ve been really, really OCD with that lately.” She does “love all fashion,” but singled out designer Tracy Reese (whose beaded cocktail dress she was wearing) as a current fave. “I’m a big fan of her. I just love the store and love everything she does.” Tell us: Do you feel the need to match all of your accessories? Does it matter if they are different metals?

Vanessa Minnillo has been working very hard lately. Besides hosting TRL, being an ET correspondent, the new face of BONGO JEANS and flying around the world with her pop star boyfriend, the MTV beauty is now designing a makeup line for Flirt! cosmetics that will debut in August 2007 at all Kohl’s Department Stores. Of her new gig Vanessa says, “To me, makeup is all about trying out different looks and colors. Red Carpet Trendwatch: Metallic Dresses at the Grammys

Forget the blinged out watches and medallions — the real sparkle on the red carpet came from the sequined metallic dresses that ruled the red carpet. From Vanessa’s silver sequins to Hilary’s sexy gold Dolce & Gabanna to Fergie’s shimmering steel Badgley Mischka, short and shiny was the major look of the night. Even for the ladies who didn’t wear it head to toe, metallic accents popped up on Nelly Furtado, Beyonce and many more. The key to making the look work? Keeping the hemlines above the knee and accessories to a minimum. Tell us: What do you think of the metallic dresses? Is this a trend you would try?

Vanessa Minnillo: How To Look Good In Short Shorts

As the host of TRL, an ET correspondent and the girlfriend of a pop megastar, Vanessa Minnillo sure is a busy gal.  But when BONGO JEANS asked the former beauty queen to be the new face of BONGO for Spring 2007, the self-proclaimed denim addict (she owns hundreds of pairs!) couldn’t say no — especially when she saw some of the clothes she’d be wearing in her very own ad campaign. “These shorts are special,” she told me at her sexy BONGO photo shoot, where she tried on cropped cardigans and comfy soft knit tanks, skirts, and shorts—some really SHORT shorts.  “I have no bum, but these give you a nice little booty.”   Ok, Vanessa, but when it comes to those teeny tiny shorts, booty isn’t everything—how does she keep her legs so long and lean?  “I’m not gonna lie, I do go to the gym.  But honestly, you just have to find time to be active,” she told me. Then she picked up a downright adorable pair of canvas pumps with red patent leather heels.   “But if you want these legs in these shorts?  These heels will help,” she said.  Spoken like a true pitchwoman.  —Kristen Mascia

Fashion RX for Vanessa Minnillo

Before she started dating Nick Lachey, I hadn’t given Vanessa Minnillo or her wardrobe much thought. But now, thanks to her hot love life, the TRL cutie is suddenly in the fashion spotlight. Though she’s casual and adorable in her off time, her red carpet looks are another matter. She veers towards shiny, too tight (left, at the Emmys, and right, at the VMAs) fabrics, a look more fitting for a prom queen than a star on-the-rise. Here’s my completely unsolicited advice for Vanessa: Hire a stylist. It doesn’t have to be Rachel Zoe, but get a professional to help you play up that amazing body of yours in some beautiful designer duds. Or at the very least, ditch the sparkly satin. Everyone is going to keep comparing you to your boy’s ex, Jessica Simpson, who is known for her spot-on style. The good news is Vanessa’s hair and makeup already look lovely, and she has the ultimate accessory with Nick by her side. — Melissa Liebling-Goldberg
