Supermodels Donate Designer Dresses to Power a Good Cause

Elettra Wiedemann Practices 'Model Behavior' for a Good CauseCourtesy Charitybuzz

Having trounced down runways and graced her share of magazine covers, it would be easy for Elettra Wiedemann to sit back and bask in the fabulous life of a jet-setting model, but the face of Lancôme is putting her fame and smarts to good use. The top model and daughter of Isabella Rossellini is pairing her OneFrickinDay non-profit organization with online auction site Charitybuzz for a new initiative: Model Behavior. “We have asked about 30 top models, including Tyra Banks, Eva Herzigova, Brooke Shields, Elle Macpherson and Christy Turlington to donate ‘one frickin dress’ they have worn on the red carpet,” she told PEOPLE. “These gorgeous dresses will be auctioned off on Charitybuzz and the money will go towards buying solar panels for clinics that currently have zero access or very limited access to electricity in Rwanda and Haiti.” Elettra, who recently obtained a master’s degree in biomedicine from the prestigious London School of Economics, is collaborating with Partners In Health (PIH) and Solar Electric Light Fund (SELF) with hopes to raise at least $100,000 for the cause. She joins stars like Selena Gomez, who recently donated a gown to help disadvantaged children via Charitybuzz. For your chance to lend a hand by bidding on looks previously worn by famous supermodels, head over to Charitybuzz.com today! – Hana Choi

Tyra Banks: Back To Modeling and Ready to Smize!

Landov

After leading countless model hopefuls down the runway and into the fashion industry, Tyra Banks is returning to her modeling roots. The TV personality  has re-signed with her first modeling agency, IMG, and this time around, she is bringing her own company, Bankable Enterprises, into the mix. “The last time I was with IMG, I was set on taking on the modeling world in the high fashion and commercial sectors,“ says Banks in a release. “Now I’m dreaming even bigger but this time for my company as well. Aligning myself with brands that I believe in, and helping them achieve the kind of success they’re looking for, helps all of us as we grow our businesses,” says the former Victoria’s Secret supermodel, who will participate in commercial endorsements and fashion related opportunities. And IMG, for its part, is equally thrilled. “Tyra is a global brand and we are happy to welcome her back to the IMG family,” says Ted Forstmann, the company’s Chairman and CEO, in a release. The America’s Next Top Model creator, host and executive producer, is also busy penning a new book series. With her hands in so many exciting projects, we hope that the 36-year-old Banks can keep up with her younger cohorts. Tell us: Do you think Tyra Banks still has what it takes to be on top of the modeling world? Tyra’s Newest Model Find: A ‘Fiercely Real’ Contest Winner

Michael Loccisano/Warner Bros

She’s a size 14 and fierce: Meet Sheridan Watson, the 17-year-old winner of Tyra Banks’ newest modeling competition, the Fiercely Real Teen Model Search. “Since cycle 1, the teen fans of America’s Next Top Model have written me letters and have approached me…asking me ‘Tyra, when are you going to do a cycle for teens?’” Banks tells PEOPLE. So this year, Banks launched the first ever plus-size teen modeling search, which invited girls between ages of 13 and 19 who wear a dress size between 12 and 20 to compete for a contract with Wilhelmina Models and the cover of Banks’ MagaLine Tyra: Beauty Inside & Out. As the winner, “I’m still waiting for it all to hit me,” says the New Jersey-based Watson. “Growing up it was like modeling was not an appropriate profession for someone my size because I’ve always been curvy.” Now, she says, “I know it is possible.” In addition to expanding “the narrow definitions of what’s considered beautiful,” Banks — who will continue to host this contest annually on her site tyra.com — says she’s looking to redefine the term plus-size. “The term plus-sized is so misleading so I’m renaming it Fiercely Real,” explains Banks. “What’s considered plus-sized in the fashion industry is actually average in the real world. I want women to realize that the women they see in the magazines are not the norm.” See more at tyra.com and pick up this week’s issue of PEOPLE, on newsstands Friday for even more from Tyra.

VIDEO: Strike a Pose to Win Tyra’s First Fiercely Real Teen Model Search

Today, Tyra Banks announced her newest challenge to the modeling market: her first-ever plus-sized modeling competition for teens. Dubbed Tyra’s Fiercely Real Teen Model Search, the contest will hunt for curvy catwalk contenders aged 13-19 and between 5′ 9″ and 6′ 1″. So why tackle this ignored segment of the fashion market now? “I’ve always felt it was my mission to expand the narrow perceptions of beauty; through America’s Next Top Model, True Beauty and The Tyra Show I challenge industry and universal standards by featuring and celebrating non-traditional beauty, and stressing that true beauty is both inside and out,” she explains of the decision. “Plus-sized tends to have a negative connotation and I want young girls to realize that what’s considered plus-sized is the average American woman. That woman is healthy, fit and beautiful. Adolescence is such an impressionable time in a young woman’s life, and I hope this contest helps teen girls discover their own beauty from the inside out.” Think you might have what it takes to conquer the catwalk and earn a one-year contract with Wilhelmina, magazine cover and more? Click over to tyrashow.warnerbros.com to learn how to enter — and learn more from the supermodel herself on how to pose for your audition only at tyra.com!
