Tori Spelling’s ‘Spinning’ Anniversary Ring from Dean McDermott: All the Exclusive Details

After seven years of marriage, Dean McDermott wanted to change things up a little.

So when he approached L.A. jewelry designer Neil Lane about creating a special anniversary gift for his wife Tori Spelling, McDermott cut to the chase: “Dean wanted something unusual, different and something very special and celebratory,” Lane tells PEOPLE. “Every year he gets Tori a ring to honor a renewal of their vows and this year, their 7th year of marriage, was really important to him. He loves her so much and it had to be special.”

Mission accomplished. After Lane mulled over many designs in short order — “I had less than a week to come up with the perfect gift,” he says — the result was a dazzling ring set in 18k gold with over 150 small rose cut diamonds, for a total of about 3 carats. And the fun part? “It spins around!” says the celebrated jeweler. “It’s a diamond ball, a little diamond world, and Tori can spin it on her finger.”

Five years of marriage is definitely cause for a celebration; just ask Tori Spelling and Dean McDermott. The lovebirds — currently expecting their third child — toasted their fifth anniversary on Saturday with some super-sweet gifts, including a stunning Art Nouveau Neil Lane ring for Spelling. McDermott worked with Lane — just like he has on every anniversary — to choose the sparkler, presenting it to his wife during a rendezvous. (According to Spelling’s Twitter feed, she built her husband his gift, a wood bench that reads “Grow Old With Me …”) The couple completed their celebration with a shopping trip through L.A., topped off with a nine-course tasting at hotspot Scarpetta and a romantic night in a luxe Hollywood hotel. The next morning, Spelling was fêted again, this time for Mother’s Day: the reality star got a Goyard weekend bag from her hubby, and flowers from kids Liam, 4, and Stella, 2½. Another anniversary, another wedding ring for Tori Spelling. In keeping with their own special tradition of a new wedding band for every anniversary, Dean McDermott presented his wife with this new Neil Lane sparkler for their fourth wedding anniversary as they renewed their vows over the weekend. Just like in previous years, Dean paid the star-favorite jeweler a visit to collaborate on the perfect ring for Tori. “As always, working with Dean is so special. His sincerity and commitment so apparent, coming up with new ring ideas every anniversary is lots of fun,” Lane tells PEOPLE exclusively.
