Taylor Swift Experiments With a More Grown-Up Street Style

Jun/19/2014 at 07:35 PM ET

Taylor Swift is the queen of the sweet sundress and prim lace-up Oxford heel, which is why her latest series of “exiting the gym” glamour shots makes us wonder if she’s taking her wardrobe in a new direction. The star rarely gets it wrong in the style department, and her last three looks are no exception — but from the shoes to the styles, they are a little different for her. Let’s discuss.

First and most surprising: The Aqua crop top and circle skirt she wore with a structured satchel and lace-up platforms, plus a loose low bun, to meet the newest (and cutest) member of her family. Swift loves to play up her long legs but rarely flashes any midriff, so this was a fun girlie twist on her usual A-line dresses.

Next, she sported a fun black romper and ankle-strap peep toe heels with a looser version of her curly bob. Though this look had some all-grown-up glamour thanks to the hemline, the fact that it was a onesie (and the heart-shaped Gelareh Mizrahi bag she paired with it) kept the look playful instead of too sexy. And finally, she went for an updated version of her favorite cigarette pants-and-sweater look with an origami-structured button-up, heels and a sweet scarf tied in her hair. And of course, the one constant throughout: her go-to red lipstick.

Taylor Swift: I Wear Red Lipstick Because 'I Think My Face Looks Worse Without It'

May/21/2014 at 07:38 PM ET

Even a casual Taylor Swift observer knows that there’s no style statement that the singer loves more than a great red lip. In fact, it doesn’t surprise us to find out (via the video below) that she usually chooses her outfit based on her red lipstick of the day. So when we got to chat with Swift at a Glendale, Calif. event to celebrate Keds-wearing style icons (as well as Swift’s own collection for the line) we had to ask: How many red lipsticks does she actually have?

Taylor Swift on Her Cat's Attempt to Destroy Her Met Gala Dress: It Was Like a Crocodile Attacking an Antelope on National Geographic

Taylor Swift and her cat Meredith both seem to have a soft spot for ball gowns — which Swift found out with near-disastrous consequences the night of the Met Gala, when Meredith went after her gown.

“I’ve never seen more fashionable people lose their composure quicker than when a cat walks up to a satin, custom Oscar de la Renta gown and then decides to make a home inside of it,” the singer told PEOPLE of the cat’s Met Gala antics while at the Keds Style Icons Event at Nordstrom at The Americana at Brand.

“She just passed, dug her claws in and started to roll … like when you see a crocodile attack an antelope on National Geographic,” explained the star, 24. “That’s what she tried to do to the dress.”

Luckily, Swift’s little ball of fur — who “fancies herself as quite a hunter” — didn’t cause any real damage to the “Red” singer’s frock. Said Swift, laughing, “She’s a chubby housecat. She’s not very strong!”

Aside from the near feline-fashion disaster, the rest of the getting-ready process for fashion’s biggest night went off without a hitch.

“I got ready with Karlie [Kloss],” Swift said. “We were both wearing Oscar de la Renta, and we kind of shared a hair girl and got ready in a hotel room. It was so much fun getting ready with one of your best friends.”

Has your pet caused any near fashion disasters? Would you have killed to get an invite to Swift and Kloss’s pre-party? Weigh in below!

Met Gala Predictions: Six Looks We're Hoping to See (in Some Form!) on the Red Carpet

May/02/2014 at 10:30 AM ET

The Metropolitan Museum’s Costume Institute Gala (or Met Gala, for short) is on Monday, and it promises to be one of the most formal evenings in ages. The dress code specifies white tie and tails for men (think what Prince Philip might wear to a royal wedding), while ladies will be wearing gowns influenced by the famously glamorous and over-the-top beautiful designs of Charles James. (Who? Read more about him here.) And of course, dozens of stars will be attending on the arms of designers who have created custom gowns just for the occasion.

Due to the extremely high-fashion nature of the ball, stars are likely to be wearing very formal, very elegant one-of-a-kind dresses to walk up the famous Met Gala stairs. But we couldn’t help but take a look at recent runways to see where inspiration may lie for these A-list designers and their planned celebrity dates. Below, see six outfits we think we might see in some form Monday night.
