Three Celebrity Signature Style Moves We Must Discuss

Jun/03/2014 at 04:06 PM ET

We define a star’s “style signature” as something they’ve worn out of the house, with clear intent, at least three times. After all, once is a fluke, twice is testing the waters and a third time’s a trend. And in recent weeks, these three stars have really committed to previously questionable fashion statements, to varying degrees of success. Let’s chat.

By now you know Shailene Woodley is very candid when it comes to sharing her healthy — and very hippie-inspired — outlook on life. But the actress wasn’t always so comfortable with herself.

“I realize I was good at being outwardly positive because that’s how I am by nature,” she tells the June issue of InStyle. “But internally? I was so mean to myself. Realizing I need to make a shift was a big moment for me. F–k you, insecurity. F–k you, lack of confidence!” Read More

There was something different about Shailene Woodley at the 2014 Met Gala, and we couldn’t put our finger on it. She was wearing a nature-inspired gown from Rodarte — that was par for the course. She left the house shoeless — nothing strange there. She kept her styling to a minimum — again, more of the same. Just about midnight, when we’d been staring at Met Gala photos for hours, it struck us: The actress was sporting a new, blonder shade.

Shailene Woodley may have a more relaxed approach to beauty than the rest of us (see, oh, everything she said in this post, up to and including “be pregnant with the world”), but even she is susceptible to some traditional beauty foibles — like being super-attached to her long hair.

In a just-released video from her August haircut for The Fault in Our Stars (in which she plays a cancer patient), you can watch as the stylist snips through Woodley’s super-thick, super-long ponytail — then keep watching to Woodley’s laughing-through-tears reaction as she sees the first chunk of hair to go.

Apr/12/2014 at 09:00 AM ET

This week, the Most Loved Looks list featured the Great Hemline Debate of 2014: Minis vs. Floor-Length. Half of the ensembles featured gowns that swept the red carpet with flowing fabrics (we’re including Jennifer Garner’s sweeping custom MaxMara jumpsuit), while the others showed off their toned legs in super-short dresses. And after tallying up all the reader votes, it looks like the floor-length hems have it with Miranda Kerr coming out on top!

Please Stop What You're Doing and Help Us Decide How We Feel About Three Star Beauty Moments

There are some beauty looks that have us feeling nothing but happy feelings (like these pretty lipsticks) and then there are some beauty looks that leave us bewildered. Regardless, we like to talk them all out with you.

After a month experimenting with pastel hues (first purple, then blue), Ireland Baldwin has returned to her platinum blonde shade, a look which with we hope she sticks. However, Coachella is coming up and she might decide to get dye-happy again. She totally reminds us of that one friend from high school who couldn’t help but color her hair with markers when she gets bored.

Moving from manes to manis, Shailene Woodley has been sporting chipping polish (a cardinal red carpet sin!) to her Divergent premieres. In Berlin, she teamed her dramatic Zuhair Murad stunner with two fingers of mint green polish — the same look as she sported for the film’s London premiere. So either someone in her glam squad forgot to pack nail polish remover, or she’s trying to start a new trend. (At least she’s on-trend with her pale polish.)

And rounding out the group, Rita Ora had a Nicole Richie Met Gala hair moment, sporting a voluminous pompadour spray-painted with white stripes. The do added more drama to her fringed, fur-collared leather (yes, that’s a lot of detail) Roberto Cavalli dress at the Glamour of Italian Fashion exhibit in London.
