Sarah Jessica Parker to Launch SATC-Inspired Fragrance

Courtesy Coty

Can you package the joie-de-vivre of Sex and the City’s ultra-fashionable Carrie Bradshaw in a bottle? Coty Prestige plans to do just that with the launch of Sarah Jessica Parker’s newest fragrance, SJP NYC, following on the stiletto heels of her two enormously successful fragrances Lovely and Covet. In an interview with WWD, Parker says that the fruity floral scent will be a “party in a bottle,” influenced primarily by her character, Miss Bradshaw. “A large part of the inspiration was what I now understand to be people’s impressions of seeing Carrie Bradshaw walk down the street and what feelings that evokes for her and for them — a real sense of freedom and possibilities, a love for the city around her and, of course, fashion,” Parker told WWD. SJP NYC, with top notes of Italian mandarin, white osmanthus and wild red strawberries, will arrive exclusively in Macy’s stores in February, just in time to get fans excited for the May release of the second SATC film. The packaging was designed to look like Bradshaw’s famously over-stuffed closet — featuring a simple glass bottle encased in a reusable canister and topped with a hot pink cap. The fragrance collection will include eau de toilette in three sizes as well as a body lotion, priced between $25-$49. A cuff bracelet with solid perfume will debut in May. Woah! Kim Cattrall Goes ’80s on the Sex and the City 2 Set!

Bauer-Griffin

First Sarah Jessica Parker and now Kim Cattrall — looks like Sex and the City 2 is definitely having an ’80s moment! Kim Cattrall’s Samantha Jones is known for her sexy style and love of designer handbags (remember the Birkin episode?), but what was Sam like before life as a high fashion-loving publicist? If this look is any indication, Samantha was working a seriously-sexy, hair metal look. We love everything from her studded denim vest, neon leopard body suit, sheer panel leggings, and buckle-up booties — and check out that hair! Who else could carry this off? No wonder Samantha loves shoulder pads and big earrings so much. Tell us: What do you think of Kim Cattrall’s ’80s look?

Carrie Bradshaw is Back! Sarah Jessica Parker Debuts Her Sex and the City 2 Looks

Graylock/Abaca, Charles Sykes/AP(2)

We could hardly contain our excitement when a Sex and the City sequel was announced, and now, our favorite fashionista is getting back to work. Sarah Jessica Parker is creating her own fashion show on the streets of Manhattan as Carrie Bradshaw. She first appeared in a Halston Heritage dress, Solange Azagury-Partridge necklace, Chanel clutch and sparkling gold pumps, reappearing later in the day in another Halton Heritage dress of cobalt tiers paired with T-strap pumps. So far, so Carrie. But when she appeared today in full ’80s regalia, including — gasp! — sneakers and a frizzy do, we had to assume we were witnessing a flashback scene being filmed and not a radical departure from Miss Bradshaw’s style. Now, when do we get to see Miranda, Samantha and Charlotte back in action? Tell us: What do you think of Carrie’s first three looks on the set of the Sex and the City sequel?

Is Lourdes Inspired by SJP’s Style?

Robert Phillips/Everett Collection; Diane Cohen/Fame

At 12, Madonna’s daughter Lourdes Ciccone Leon is already a budding fashionista. Like her mother, the tween has shown a flair for eye-catching ensembles — and loves a vintage look. Spotted in the Big Apple just last month the teen was sporting these familiar oversized glasses. Lourdes’ ensemble seemed to us like a true blast from the — televised — past: Doesn’t she resemble Sarah Jessica Parker’s character Patty Greene from 1982’s shortlived series Square Pegs? Call it geek chic, or just plain cool, but could Madonna’s daughter be inspired by one of fashion’s most playful characters, SJP herself? — By Liz McNeil

How Would Carrie Bradshaw Weather the Recession? SJP Sounds Off

Courtesy Harper’s Bazaar

Carrie Bradshaw may be the ultimate symbol of the fashionista who puts their wardrobe over their nest egg — who can forget Carrie’s realization that the down payment for her apartment had gone to her shoe collection instead? So how would the iconic Sex and the City character handle today’s economic woes? Sarah Jessica Parker opines to Harper’s Bazaar, “She would probably end up in a hospital. Perhaps she would go back to her ’80s stuff and start bringing it out again.” As for the March cover girl, her own take on the recession is a bit less dramatic. “I know so many people who have lost jobs, are losing jobs, husbands who have lost jobs. I can’t imagine going shopping.” But that said, Parker does allow that “I don’t have the Carrie Bradshaw passion and devotion to it, but I would much prefer that life would allow for a beautiful shoe all day long.” As for Bradshaw’s legendary wardrobe, the actress, who maintains a very un-Carrie-like home (“Friends are readily disappointed by the size of my closet.”), she enthuses, “I got to wear such incredible things, and you make such mistakes and there’s such hits and great triumphs and there’s incredible wrong, wrong, wrong…But it’s so much fun.” Read the full interview with Sarah Jessica at harpersbazaar.com. Tell us: How are you weathering the recession? Are you taking it like Carrie might or like Sarah Jessica herself?
