Katie Holmes’s six-inch cut wasn’t the only surprising hair news to happen this weekend. Salma Hayek — who’s been a dark brunette for most of her career — went for a bold color change as well. Read More

Stars may love a pair of fancy footwear, but nothing is more practical than a good pair of black heels. And right now, the shoes of the moment are a pair of VC Signature “Ronan” booties, spotted on five celebrities in the last few months.
It was a tight race this week, coming down to three red carpet veterans: Jessica Alba, Elizabeth Banks and Salma Hayek. And while our money was on Banks’s dazzling Elie Saab sweetheart gown (stunning!) or Alba’s hot-pink Reem Acra (so fun!), Hayek bested both of the stars and earned the No. 1 spot.
The actress did so in a plunging gray gown in a relatively simple silhouette (curve-hugging, center-slit up the back). But simple certainly doesn’t describe the embellishments: Her dress was covered in dazzling beading and featured a blinged-out waist-cincher complete with more beading and crystals.
Salma completed her ensemble for the BAFTA Los Angeles Britannia Awards in Beverly Hills with a bouncy blowout and major diamond bracelet.
The carat-tastic look earned a 95% approval rating from voters.
So, what do you think of Salma Hayek’s gray stunner? Does she deserve the title or should it have gone to Alba or Banks this week?

Words that we typically apply to our night-out bags: Sexy. Glittery. Bright. Fun. Festive. Words that we rarely, if ever, apply to our night-out bags: Businesslike. But that may change soon, if these stars are any indication.
Within the last week, Jessica Biel, Emma Roberts and Salma Hayek have all opted for briefcase-inspired designs to complement their red carpet attire. Biel’s Mark Cross was the most literal interpretation of the look — it truly looked like she could covertly drop off a few stacks of hundreds with her borrowed-from-the-boys style. (And for what it’s worth, most of you voted this look a “hot mess.”)
Roberts’s B Brian Atwood had the same boxy shape and top handle, but the gold accents feminized it a bit — not to mention the satin-and-lace dress and red heels with which she paired it. And Hayek’s fit in well with her graphic black-and-white ensemble at Paris Fashion Week — it gave a little ’50s punch along with the glasses and the Pollock-inspired print.
With menswear still one of the hottest trends out there, we have a feeling this may catch on pretty quickly. Would you give this staid look a shot? And if so, whose look would you most likely imitate: Biel’s literal look, Robert’s über-girlie outfit or Hayek’s mod styling?

In our weekly round-up of what we’re seeing sizzle (and fizzle) on the red carpet, we noticed some eye-catching, gem-encrusted ensembles, stars stepping out in dresses with out-of-the-box necklines — and one celeb in a sweatshirt despite the 90° weather. Consider this your fashion forecast.

It may have been 90° in the shade in N.Y.C. Wednesday, but that didn’t stop Salma Hayek from bringing the heat (or wearing — eek! — leather) during a whirlwind day of promotion for her new movie Grown Ups 2.
Without repeating an accessory (or showing even a hint of frizz in the humidity — seriously, how does she do that?) the star sported four feminine looks over the course of the day, kicking off with a girlie black number with a pleated skirt and buttoned bodice, plus camel sandals.
Then to head into Late Night With David Letterman, she selected a flirty, flowy floral (say that five times fast) dress and stacked wedges; by the time she exited the studio, she had changed into a 3/4-sleeve belted mini and black Casadei pumps with an acrylic heel.
Finally, she arrived at the film’s premiere having swept her strands back and changed into a Saint Laurent dress with snakelike silver details and a cutout neckline, plus strappy sandals and a Gaydamak hand bracelet.
We’re exhausted just thinking about it, but Hayek never broke a sweat, like the pro she is. Tell us: Which of her looks was your favorite?
Get ready to have your minds blown, StyleWatchers. Salma Hayek is… 47! Now, once you pick your jaws off the floor, check out how amazing the actress looks on the July cover of InStyle magazine, where she opens up about dressing to impress her French husband, François-Henri Pinault.
“I actually wear a lot of leather on the red carpet,” the actress (who’s wearing a scarlet St. Laurent dress on the cover) shares. “My husband loves when I wear it.” (We bet François really loved when his wife stepped out in this Bottega Venetta leather dress last week!)
Hayek also reveals that even though she’s in her forties, there are certain styles she won’t give up.
“When I turned 40, I started thinking, ‘This is the last year,’ whenever I’d wear a strapless dress,” she says. “I always thought you can’t wear them after a certain age, but I’m still getting away with it.”
