Rose Byrne’s Stylist Gives the Perfect Blowout How-To

Have a hot date tonight? Maybe a girls’ night out? Whatever the occasion, you want your hair to look hot! We recently got a few moments with John Frieda’s Harry Josh (he did Rose Byrne’s hair for the Oscars) and snagged a few tips on achieving the perfect blowout at home.

1. Prep your hair. “Take a good look at your hair type and identify its weakness,” Josh says, citing examples like frizz and lack of volume. When you get out of the shower, treat your hair with a product that targets that weakness: Frizz-Ease (Original Formula Hair Serum or the new Sheer Solution Lightweight Frizz Control) for frizzy hair, or Fully Repair Style Revival for damaged, overworked tresses.

2. Add heat. Josh suggests tackling your hair one section at a time, separating it into one-inch chunks. “This will ensure that you’re getting your hair truly dry, as well as creating the optimum amount of volume and sleekness,” he explains. Be sure to use the right brush, too; Josh recommends one with boar bristles, since brushes with metal bristles can get too hot, snagging and breaking hair.

Rose Byrne In Search of Outfits That Match Her Hair

When Rose Byrne is getting dressed for the red carpet, she’s not so concerned about her accessories complementing her dress — but she is thinking about how her hair goes with her outfit.

“Day to day, not so much,” she tells FabSugar.com of making her clothes work with her blunt bob and bangs. “But in terms of carpet it’s like, ‘What’s going to look right with the hair?’”

Though it adds a step to the styling process, Byrne loves her look. “It’s fun,” she shares. “A little high-maintenance with the bangs, but you know, it takes a village.”

Her hair majorly came into play two weeks ago, when she selected a black Vivienne Westwood gown (left) for the Oscars. “She’s sort of avant-garde, and she’s British, which I love,” the Aussie star says of the designer. “I think it was literally the first or second dress I tried on. And it felt kind of right with my hair, as well.” For more with Byrne, visit FabSugar.com. Tell us: Do you coordinate your hair with your clothes?

Rose Byrne’s Haircut Was Inspired by ‘Scarface’

Rose Byrne gave us a lot to look at during Sunday night’s Screen Actors Guild Awards: her gorgeous face, for one, but also her interesting white jumpsuit and face-framing bob. So we had to ask: What was the story behind her look?

“I tried this on a couple of years ago,” Byrne told PEOPLE of her glimmering Elie Saab jumpsuit. “I loved it for an event and it just didn’t end up being the one that I wore. But I always had it in my mind.”

Once she decided she wanted to wear pants to the SAGs, Byrne called up her stylist, Penny Lovell, who immediately knew which look to pull. “[She] was like, ‘How about that great jumpsuit we tried on from Elie Saab?’” Byrne recalled. “And I was like, ‘Oh that? Let’s go!’ So that was it. I love jumpsuits.”

Though Byrne’s bob was somewhat old news by comparison — she first cut it several months ago — the actress had the look freshened by John Frieda stylist Harry Josh before the awards (her makeup was by Joe Fresh Beauty). “Just yesterday, he did another cut and he did the back and then he did the bangs again,” she explained during the SAG Awards Gala at the Shrine Auditorium. “It’s Scarface-inspired. It’s like Scarface meets Anna Wintour.” Tell us: What did you think of Byrne’s look?

WATCH: Stars Celebrate Fashion Week with Mulberry

Luxe British label Mulberry has no shortage of celebrity fans, and several of them popped up in New York City Monday night to celebrate the brand’s 40th anniversary in style.

Alexa Chung, Maggie Gyllenhaal, Michelle Trachtenberg, Rose Byrne and a host of others raved about the evening’s true star player: Mulberry (watch the clip above to hear them speak). But when they weren’t gushing over handbags and dresses, they sipped margaritas and enjoyed music, dancing, balloon animals and small bites atop the Skylight West Studios in Manhattan.

The celebration didn’t end there, though; the brand was also fêting the recent opening of its new flagship store in New York’s SoHo neighborhood, and another star-studded party will take place across the pond next week in celebration of London Fashion Week.

You may recognize Rose Byrne as the brunette with the impossibly perfect bangs. You may also know her as shrewd lawyer Ellen Parsons on the FX drama Damages — or even as the lucky lady who beds Brad Pitt in Troy. Regardless of how you know her, one thing’s for sure: the girl can dress. In celebration of the star’s ensemble comedy Bridesmaids (out today!), we asked Byrne to highlight her three favorite looks from the past year. “I love dressing boyishly,” she tells PEOPLE of a Tommy Hilfiger blouse and trouser combo. “I love my big hair too — [stylist] Harry [Josh] put it up for the first time with the bangs.” Of a bold pink Prabal Gurung shift, Byrne says she was initially hesitant. “I was nervous,” she admits. “But it was perfect — gorgeous and modern.” Her final favorite outfit, a fairytale Ralph Lauren moment, was a no-brainer. “This is my favorite cut, a full dramatic skirt with a fitted top,” she says. “I was debating whether to team with a belt, but decided against as it seemed more classic without.” We couldn’t agree more. Tell us: Which of Byrne’s looks is your favorite?Justine Harman
