Style inspiration can come from anywhere — a beautiful sunset, an interesting textile, an old movie. And (less frequently, we’d guess) it can come from a beloved children’s cartoon. This weekend, two separate music stars paid sartorial tribute to that crazy guy who lives in a pineapple under the sea, (sing it with us now) SpongeBob SquarePants.

Can haircuts be contagious? Shortly after walking in the Moschino fashion show with a newly-bobbed Katy Perry, Rita Ora made her Milan new do debut with a similarly short and sassy chop.

The star is known for mixing it up style-and-beautywise, but she has been rocking the same Marilyn Monroe-inspired peroxide-blonde waves for a while now (of course, she’s had a little help in the length department, but it’s been her look for some time). But apparently she was ready to shed the extensions and go shorter than before, because she teamed up with “genius” stylist Chris Appleton for a choppy, piecey new do.

Her hair is different, the location is different, but the sassy attitude is definitely the same. The latest round of Rita Ora’s ads for Material Girl are here, and we’ve got the exclusive first look at (and behind-the-scenes photos of) the star’s spring campaign shots. The British pop star is the face of the line designed in collaboration with Madonna and her daughter Lourdes “Lola” Leon, and she embodies the duo’s spunky vibe while making a splash (so to speak) in Miami. Though it’s Ora’s second time around shooting ads for the line, she’s still in awe of the famous face behind it. “Madonna is such an inspiration to so many people,” she says in a video from the shoot. “It’s really good fun being the face of something so exciting.”

If you’re wondering how you know Rita Ora, it may be because you’ve been hearing her music everywhere. Or because her style has been turning heads for months now. But here’s the reason she’s going to be really huge: she’s already landed her first major fashion cover: Elle‘s May “Women in Music” issue.

We have the first look at Ora’s two gorgeous covers. In the first, she’s wearing a pink Chanel Haute Couture gown with a Ken O’Rourke headpiece and her signature red lipstick; in the second she gets cheeky with a Calvin Klein bustier, Philip Treacy headpiece and makeup to match.

This is hardly Ora’s first foray into high fashion — though she did have to get a little aggressive to land the killer Marchesa gown she wore to the MTV Europe Music Awards.
