Go Behind the Scenes with Nicki Minaj and Ricky Martin for M.A.C

Feb/17/2012 at 04:30 PM ET

Nicki Minaj has always wanted to be a M.A.C Viva Glam girl. So when she got the chance to work with Ricky Martin on the brand’s latest campaign, needless to say she was floored.

“I wanted to hug everyone that worked at M.A.C for giving me this opportunity,” she says in the clip above.

The R&B star and her sexy Latin counterpart, announced as the faces of M.A.C’s HIV/AIDS awareness campaign last year, shot their ads with photographer David LaChapelle last July. The clip above explores their shoot — and spotlights the cause.

The wait is over! Nicki Minaj and Ricky Martin’s first ad for M.A.C’s Viva Glam campaign is out — and as expected, it’s pretty sexy (just like its stars). The singers — and their ride — were photographed in Miami in July by David LaChapelle, and their Viva Glam products, the sales from which benefit the M.A.C AIDS Fund, hit counters in February 2012.

Minaj and Martin follow in the footsteps of some very major past Viva Glam spokespeople, Lady Gaga, Cyndi Lauper and Fergie among them. Skater Johnny Weir was also announced as a new face of the brand in June.

To date, the M.A.C AIDS Fund has raised more than $224 million exclusively through the sale of its Viva Glam lip products, with 100 percent of the sale price going to fight HIV/AIDS. After creating the inventive costumes for Lady Gaga‘s Monster Ball last year, Giorgio Armani is back on the concert beat, designing looks for Ricky Martin’s upcoming Musica + Alma + Sexo world tour. “Ricky personifies today’s modern man,” says the designer, who dressed the singer for two previous world tours. “I am thrilled to be working with him again.” As far as Martin is concerned, he is happy to reprise the role of muse. “I have always loved Giorgio Armani’s designs,” he gushes. “The looks he has created for my new tour are uniquely creative … he will help bring Musica + Alma + Sexo alive.” While the tour is expected to incorporate themes including 1980s punk, 1920s jazz and Afro-Brazilian elements, the proposed looks smack of refined Ricky — a testament to how well the designer knows his pal. After all, Armani boasts, “Our long-standing friendship has now spanned well over a decade.” The Musica + Alma + Sexo tour comes stateside on April 8.
