Her clothing line for HSN is selling like crazy, but Queen Latifah says finding clothes as a plus-size woman was at one time a constant struggle.

“A lot of manufacturers don’t respect the curvaceous woman,” she laments in the January issue of ESSENCE. “They don’t respect our dollar or our shape.” Thankfully, she’s found an understanding vendor in HSN. “[It's] been such a great partnership,” she says. “I’m happy to make women’s clothing I really like.”

In August, Latifah told PEOPLE she was designing for real women who want affordable, wearable fashion. “It’s really something you can incorporate into your existing wardrobe,” she said of the tops, jackets, jeans and handbags in the Queen Collection. “I mean these are things that are really beautiful, but they’re very wearable. We’re really trying to make sure that they have the best fabrics possible, that it feels good on the body. I’m a Pisces, I’m sensitive; I like things to feel good on my skin.”

Her clothing line debuts this Saturday on HSN, but Queen Latifah isn’t taking all the credit for her fashion sense; she says some super-chic women have helped her along the way.

“Number one my mom — she’s super stylish, always has been,” Latifah tells PEOPLE of her top style icon. “And then I would say Iman … I just think she’s beautiful, she’s poised, she’s gorgeous. She’s also a great entrepreneur and she has a great sense of style, and she has longevity, and you know that’s what I would like to have for sure.”

And just like Iman, whose HSN collection has been a hit, Latifah says she’s designing for real women who want affordable, wearable fashion. “It’s really something you can incorporate into your existing wardrobe,” she says of the tops, jackets, jeans and handbags in the Queen Collection. “I mean these are things that are really beautiful, but they’re very wearable. We’re really trying to make sure that they have the best fabrics possible, that it feels good on the body. I’m a Pisces, I’m sensitive; I like things to feel good on my skin.”

Queen Latifah is already a successful actress, singer and a CoverGirl, and now the multi-talented star is adding designer to her resumé with a new clothing line for HSN. The Queen Collection, launching this August, includes clothing and accessories designed for every woman in sizes 2-24. “I’m so excited about it,” Latifah tells PEOPLE. “This is something I have wanted to do for a very long time. I’ve been offered a lot of deals for clothing lines and actually started one that didn’t quite get off the ground but this is like a full circle moment for me.” Latifah, née Dana Owens, explains, “This is a young 14-year-old, 17-year-old and 22-year-old Dana trying to go shopping and actually finding the things she wants to wear or going on HSN and ordering the clothes she likes because they’re there and they are in her size. This has been a bit of a journey and it’s a really exciting venture.” She singles out the chic leather handbags she created as a favorite from the collection — for personal reasons. “I have a bag fetish,” she confesses. “I’ll have on sweatpants and a $3,000 purse. I don’t deny myself, bags are the one thing I’ll allow myself to splurge on.” And she’s banking on fans of the collection to feel the same about her designs. “I think the bag line is going to be really good. It’s versatile so it’s not going to look like the same bag from one collection to the next. There’s something for everyone.” Especially those who want to look like a queen. “I definitely want to be able to rock my bag. I figured, if I can rock it, why shouldn’t other people be able to?” The Queen Collection, including outerwear, will be available on HSN and HSN.com beginning Aug. 27. –Samantha McIntyre

It might as well have been the Oscars. Megawatt stars like Tom Hanks, Tom Cruise, Dakota Fanning, Alicia Keys, Aretha Franklin, Maria Shriver and more showed up to fête Oprah Winfrey in Chicago Tuesday night as she filmed two of her final Oprah Winfrey Show episodes. “I feel the love, and I thank you for it,” Winfrey told her famous friends — and the crowd of 13,000 fans inside Chicago’s United Center — as the festivities rolled on. And naturally, for such a big event, stars brought out big style. Halle Berry, in Victoria Beckham, joined Katie Holmes, in shorts and a blouse, and an LBD-clad Queen Latifah for a touching Winfrey tribute. Madonna wore a dress from Miu Miu‘s fall/winter 2011 collection, while Beyoncé performed in a tuxedo-inspired leotard and hot red heels. Not to be outdone, Winfrey — perhaps dressed by her stylist? — looked regal in a floor-length purple L’Wren Scott gown, green gems and a slicked-back ponytail. Nary a fashion miss to be seen!
