Olivia Wilde: 'Jason's Sneaker Collection Makes Up a Wall in Our Apartment'

When new mom Olivia Wilde invites people to her house, she says they automatically expect her to be a fashionista.

“Guests always expect me to have too many shoes,” Wilde tells July’s O magazine. But it’s actually her fiancé Jason Sudeikis who has a love affair with footwear. “He’s a sneakerhead with about 200 pairs of Air Jordans. They make up an extraordinarily colorful wall in our apartment.”

Wilde’s other unexpected fashion secret? For all her time spent on the red carpet, you won’t find numerous fancy frocks in her closet. Instead, she’s got an “assortment” of blazers that “rivals Rachel Maddow’s.”

“If you were to peek inside my closet, you’d think I was a newscaster or a politician — I have dozens of blazers,” she says. “I always buy them, thinking they’ll pull together an outfit, but then never wear them.”

The star is no stranger to rocking a jacket on the red carpet. Last month, just 10 days after giving birth to baby Otis, Wilde chose one of the many blazers from her arsenal and wore it alongside Sudeikis at the Ms. Foundation Women of Vision gala.

Olivia Wilde On Beauty Mistakes and the Makeup Look Men Are Afraid Of

To look at Olivia Wilde now — she who looks flawless whether she’s walking the dog or at the Oscars — it’s hard to believe she ever had a bad beauty moment. But she swears she’s got one or two (or ten) in her past.

“I don’t think there’s one picture from growing up where I don’t think, ‘Ugh, awful!'” she tells PEOPLE. “If I ever have a daughter who starts experimenting with heavy makeup or shaving her hair like I did, I would encourage it and say, ‘Do it all now, you’ll learn yourself well.'”

Sorry: Shaving your hair? Are there photos of that? “I did that awful gutterpunk undershave look when I was 12,” she says. “Not an easy grow back process. It looked like I got run over by a tractor. But my mom had a good response to that stuff; I didn’t even need to be punished, I learned that one on my own.”

PHOTOS: Star hair styles worth stealing!

These days, Wilde relies on a beauty routine much more low key than the ones you’ll see in her Revlon ads (the latest for the “Rio Rush” collection, seen exclusively at left, is a “sexy tan kind of Brazilian hot look”). Most days, she swipes on the brand’s CC cream to cover “any weird splotches and acne scars,” fills in her brows and puts on mascara.

Olivia Wilde Shares Her Go-To Holiday Makeup Look (and Secrets for Taming Her 'Devil Brows')

Olivia Wilde may have picked up enough tricks from movie sets and her Revlon gig to DIY a holiday makeup look at home, but that doesn’t mean she’s ready to go pro. Even she has her beauty hangups.

“I wish I could do a red lip, but I’m more comfortable with a bold eye,” the actress told PEOPLE while promoting the Revlon’s new Age Defying Collection in N.Y.C. “I know once I do the eye, it’s done. Inevitably, I’m going to eat something [or] kiss someone hello, so I mess up lipstick pretty much immediately. I still love playing with different shades of lipstick, but if I’m going to a holiday party, and I want to feel super-confident I’m doing a metallic eye.”

And, she adds, the key good to eye makeup is clean, well-shaped brows. “It changes your face so much when you have your eyebrows filled in and softened,” she said. “I spent years trying to look like Kate Moss with wispy thin eyebrows, which was a horrible mistake and everyone told me not to do it. So now I’m obsessed.”
