Hollywood’s Hot New Nails Are Straight Outta the ’80s

After months of long, pointy talons, wacky nail art and glittery disco polish not safe for the office, stars are finally sporting a sassy nail polish trend we can actually try — and it’s got vintage appeal.

That’s right, the most popular nail look in Hollywood is a throwback to a simpler time, when we all wore scrunchies, craved a Barbie car and “borrowed” our moms’ bright red polish.

Obviously, red nails have never gone out of style, but it’s a specific shade of bright cherry lacquer that inspires the nostalgia trip to 1987. And we know it’s red-hot at the moment because it’s been spotted on stars as diverse as (from left) Zooey Deschanel, Emmy Rossum, Alicia Keys and Olivia Palermo. Though their style ranges from über-girlie to trendy to funky, all look equally chic in the bold hue.

What to Wear to Work Tomorrow

We’ve found that the best way to beat the Monday morning blues is to eat something really delicious for breakfast — and to wear an outfit that makes you feel and look awesome. And we can help you with that second part.

Get inspired by Olivia Palermo‘s color-blocked look. The framework is typical office attire — a blazer, sweater and tailored pants — but the mixed hues (we love that she combined emerald-green and yellow!) make it stand out and feel funky. Not so funky, though, that it’ll get you called into HR.

If you feel the need to tone down the look just a tad to better fit in with the vibe of your workplace, simply swap out one of the pieces for something in a slightly more subdued shade (think: a navy blazer or black skinnies). Tell us: What do you think of Palermo’s outfit?

Although last week was all about the over-the-top looks in Cannes, the red carpets in the States were business as usual — literally. Business attire has dominated Hollywood recently, but it’s not your mom’s navy pantsuit we’re talking about: it’s the polished combo of a blazer and dress shorts.

Julianne Hough stopped by the American Idol finale to support beau Ryan Seacrest and wore a black-and-white take on the trend: high-waisted shorts, a lace top, a waist-defining belt and a crisp white L’Agence blazer.
