In our weekly roundup of the looks that are gaining fashion ground (and the ones losing their style street cred), we saw a fun twist on the exposed zipper trend, a new way to do embellishments and a shoe-and-skirt combo that doesn’t seem to be a perfect pair.
Below, please find the actual transcript of a chat conversation that happened between two of our style editors [Note: One is in San Francisco, we don't work in a completely silent office] regarding Nina Dobrev’s new, blonder ombré do.
Alex: I’m just going to say it: I don’t get it. She had perfectly nice brown hair and this is Vanessa Hudgens lite.
Brittany: You’re so wrong. This is the best ombré moment to happen since Khloé Kardashian.
We fell in love with her “stego pony” last year, and now we can’t get enough of Nina Dobrev’s latest edgy hairstyle: the “knothawk.” Dobrev debuted the intricate updo on the People’s Choice Awards red carpet, and immediately editors were emailing about who would try it out first. While we doubt it’s something we can do ourselves, it’s totally worth saving in your iPhone pics for the next time you’re at the salon.
Celebrity hairstylist Riawna Capri is the mastermind behind Dobrev’s unique updo. The magic ingredient: KMS California Hairplay sea salt spray, which added the needed texture to the actress’s hair. After spraying the star’s hair, Capri created a mohawk style by pinning knots from the back of her head all the way to the top. And since the actress has long, thick hair, the finished product ended up being an intricate maze of 100 (yes, 100!) knots. As you can see in the gif, it’s truly a masterpiece from every side.
