She shocked us last week by covering up on the red carpet. And now there’s another Miley Cyrus cover-up that has editors buzzing. It appears that the singer has bleached (or otherwise disguised) her eyebrows. Read More
By now, you’ve heard that “selfie” is 2013′s word of the year, according to the Oxford English Dictionary. And since we know you’d never want to miss out on a trend, we assume you’re furiously practicing your duck face in front of the mirror to really maximize the selfie’s white-hot relevance at the moment. Not so fast, though: There are a few key pointers you’ll want to follow to make sure that your selfies are more Beyoncé’s gorgeous pixie reveal and less Martha Stewart’s food-stagrams. Celeb photographer and Smashbox founder Davis Factor and Smashbox Pro Lead Artist Lori Taylor Davis give us tips, and we pulled celeb selfies to illustrate.

Some faceoffs are so good, we just can’t wait until Wednesday to share them with you. This is one of those times.
Miley Cyrus hit the stage Sunday night on The X Factor to perform her hit “Wrecking Ball.” No, she didn’t show up practically naked dangling over the audience. (As a matter of fact, Cyrus has been more covered up than usual lately.) Her ensemble of choice: a bronze backless lamé Marc Jacobs gown and black bejeweled Chanel turban (because it wouldn’t be a Miley outfit without a little bit of edge).
If this spaghetti strap slip-dress looks familiar, that’s because Nicole Richie wore the same design to the CFDA Awards earlier this year. Style Director Andrea Lavinthal loved it so much, she pegged it as her favorite gown of the year.
Miley Cyrus has spent a lot of time recently wearing as little clothing as possible. From micro-minis to latex bikinis to … whatever this is … she has made a side career out of getting people talking about her clothing choices (or lack thereof).
So she was overdue for a completely new look, and Thursday night at Berlin’s Bambi awards, she certainly delivered. She arrived in a black gown that had her covered from top to toe, front and back, with extra fabric at the neck and bell sleeves. Her hands and feet just peeked out from beneath the drapey fabric, and she kept her jewelry and shoes (relatively) conservative — to say nothing of her restrained makeup and elegant swept-back hairstyle.
Certainly this is no traditional ballgown — Cyrus is still making a statement — but it is a simpler, more elegant look that we’ve seen from her in a while. Think this is the start of a new trend, or do you think next week she’ll be back in mesh and pigtails? Let us know in the comments below.

Now that you’re done staring at Miley Cyrus’s postage stamp-size mini dress, it’s time to talk about some other moments from Sunday’s MTV’s Europe Music Awards. Luckily, our Celeb Style Council member Louise Roe (who covered the red carpet and backstage at the show in Amsterdam) has some scoop. Read More
Who: Miley Cyrus
Where: At the MTV Europe Music Awards in Amsterdam
Diagnosis: Shortage of Throwback Thursday pic options. It appears that Miley has exhausted all possible #tbt pictures and is now forced to come up with fresh fodder for the popular Instagram hashtag by wearing old school photos (in this case, of rappers Biggie and Tupac) across her midsection and rear. (Her Lil Kim Halloween costume, also shown off on Insta, confirms our diagnosis.)
Prognosis and recommended treatment: You might expect our suggested course of action to be to cover up — considering Miley’s mini reveals more skin than many bathing suits. But trying to get Miley to cover up is like trying to get Miley to keep her tongue in her mouth: a losing game.
Therefore, we recommend the following: Since she’s basically naked (and this dress is pretty much beyond repair — did you notice the lace-up front?), just add a wrecking ball or foam finger and call it a day.
If her goal, however, was not to get tongues wagging, bur rather to spread peace (see: “Please Stop Violence” emblazoned across the bottom of the dress), we’d recommend wearing the phrase on a slightly more modest look. You know, like a crop top, paired with leather leggings and platform loafers. Oh, and maybe not trying to disseminate a serious message so soon after Tweeting a “shower selfie.” Just a thought.
So, what do you think of the singer’s go-Biggie/Tupac-or-go-home dress?
