It Takes Two to Spice Up a Red Carpet: Our Favorite Couples Looks of the Week (Including, Yes, the McConaugheys)
It’s pretty much standard practice at peoplestylewatch.com to basically ignore the man on the fashionable female star’s arm and focus on the fabulous dress and amazing jewelry (have you seen Last Night’s Look?). But three photos came across our desks this week that made leaving out the guy practically unlawful. The ladies looked beautiful on their own per usual, but the addition of their dapper dudes’ digs (and even matching facial expressions!) made these ensembles doubly sweet.
Camila Alves-McConaughey and Matthew McConaughey: Alves has long been a master of creating looks that correlate with her husband’s (before the Oscars she said that she didn’t want to wear a super show-stopping gown because she wasn’t a nominee) without feeling like she’s playing second fiddle. At the American Cinematheque Awards in Beverly Hills, McConaughey was being honored, and she picked a Dolce & Gabbana gown which showed no skin, yet was still slinky and sexy. McConaughey, who is an ambassador for the line, opted for one of their tuxes with a velvet blazer with satin lapels .

Alicia Keys and Swizz Beatz: When some pregnant ladies hit the red carpet, it’s all about showing off the bump. But for the Angel Ball at Cipriani Wall Street in N.Y.C., Keys decided to keep the focus on her accessories and her beauty look: Her high-neck black gown stood out thanks to a dramatic statement necklace and she tried a playful yet glamorous winged eyeliner. Like his wife, Swizz chose to make his neck the focal point of his seemingly classic tux look, ditching a bow tie in favor of graphic black accents on his collar. Keys referenced their adorableness at the event on Instagram, writing, “I love how we flow! Natural & simple.”
Olivia Palermo and Johannes Huebl: Their picture-perfect wedding was just one of many examples of just how well this couple cleans up. More than one editor here screen-grabbed this photo of their casual but polished looks for the Ghurka Woman handbag launch in N.Y.C. to send to our significant others. Note to guys: We already know what to wear for fall (thanks to Olivia on more than one occasion), but this is how you should be dressing.
Tell us: Do you coordinate looks with your boo? Which couples’ style is your favorite?
Sick of discussing the hottest dresses of the night? Good, because we’re moving on to the memorable guy moments that had us buzzing. And yes, there’s a kilt involved.

Matthew McConaughey Is Still Wearing His True Detective Pants (and More Fun Facts You Didn't Know About the Dolce & Gabbana Spokesman)
Between winning the Best Actor Oscar for Dallas Buyers Club, stealing Wolf of Wall Street with less than six minutes of screen time and starring in the critically-acclaimed HBO show, True Detective, Matthew McConaughey is having the best year ever. So when we received an email asking us if we wanted to interview him about being the face of Dolce & Gabbana “The One” fragrance, we responded (say it with us now) “Alright, alright, alright!”
The actor (at the extreme height of what we’re calling McConaugheCool) was a pure delight on the phone — and we learned so many candid tidbits during our phone chat that we had to list them out for you. (P.S.: The photo at left was taken during our conversation. Okay, fine, there’s no proof of that, but it was the same day — so just go with it.)
Matthew McConaughey may be Oscar-nominated for his role in Dallas Buyers Club, but perhaps his most challenging role to date was playing a guy who was comfortable wearing a thong on the set of Magic Mike. As a guest on BBC America’s The Graham Norton Show, McConaughey recalls forcing himself to walk around in what Norton calls a “posing pouch” to help himself get used to the, shall we say, cheeky experience.
“You put one of those [thongs] on, and you find that your body gets kind of inverted,” he says, demonstrating. “I had to loosen up, because this is a guy who really lives in this thing, and I had to get really loose and [down] with it.”
That meant walking around in it even when it wasn’t called for. “I remember going — and I wasn’t the only one who did this — I had to walk out amongst the crew and have small-time, normal conversations. ‘Hey, what’d you have for lunch? Did you see the game this weekend?’ Go out and try to have some small talk in this thong without flinching. It was hard.” At this point, the audience goes wild for his unintentional double entendre. “I wasn’t, but it was,” he laughed. “Thank you for that.”

We hope Matthew McConaughey keeps winning awards because a.) We love his acceptance speeches and b.) We love to talk about his tuxedo style. The actor has definitely mixed things up on the carpet, eschewing the classic tux seen on most actors for some fun colors, textures and fabrics. Read More
