Ryan Adams did what any good musician would do when his opening act’s (female singer Natalie Prass) flight was canceled — he grabbed a black-and-white polka-dot dress and became “Natalie Sass.”

There’s something about impending warm weather that makes even the most scissors-averse girl want to hit the salon for a fresh new do. But not all of us are ready to go full Kaley Cuoco and opt for a super-short new shag. Three of our favorite stars recently felt the itch to go shorter — but not too much shorter — and we’re celebrating their fun, updated summer looks in one place. (Blame them if you find yourself in a stylist’s chair this week!)

‘Tis the season! Nothing says the holidays in Hollywood like a good soirée, which is why many of our current style crushes (from Zoë Saldana to Rashida Jones to Kate Mara) turned out to Parker’s Beverly Hills bash. And of course, they were decked out in their festive finest to check out the goods from lines like Everlane, James Jeans and Mara Hoffman. Although the stars were shopping for themselves, they still had holiday presents on the brain, and shared a few of their go-to hostess gifts with PEOPLE.

She’s been threatening a major cut for months now, but perhaps this week’s pixie madness (Jennifer! Kristin! Pamela! Meagan!) made her step away from the electric shaver. Instead, Mandy Moore did get a haircut — but it’s a simple, sweet (and somewhat less dramatic) one.
No, we don’t expect to see the sweet star stripping down to ride a wrecking ball anytime soon, but she does admit that she’s always considered chopping off her locks — it’s just a matter of giving into the impulse.
“I’ve always wanted to really cut my hair, like, super, super short. I did once,” she told PEOPLE at the launch of Emily + Meritt for PB Teen. “I’ve always thought about shaving my head too. That’s always intrigued me.”
Would husband Ryan Adams have any strong opinions about that? “I don’t think my husband would object to it!” she says. “He would totally be down for that. I think he’d think it’d probably be pretty punk!”
The star, who turned out for the launch to support her stylists Emily Current and Meritt Elliott, admits that the desire to chop off all her hair is a feeling she knows well. “I kind of feel that way a lot, but I don’t necessarily act upon it all the time. Baby steps I guess,” she says.
We’d totally love to see Moore take that big step — how about you?
Mandy Moore is one of our all-time exemplars of fresh-faced beauty — you’re not likely to see her with a bold blue eye or an intensely contoured face, but she can be relied on to look polished, elegant and pretty no matter what the event.
And now she has a new secret weapon in her naturally beautiful arsenal: Beautycounter, a brand-new skincare line devoted to safe and healthy beauty products. And Moore’s such a fan of the brand that she hosted its launch party with her longtime pal, designer Lela Rose (right).
“I find myself making more of an active choice to use cleaner products and being generally conscious of the products I do use and what’s in them,” Moore tells PEOPLE of her beauty routine. “We’re all so aware of what goes in our bodies that being educated about what goes on our bodies is the next logical step.”
The star looks smokin’ hot, but she’s covered from head-to-toe — and that’s exactly why we’re loving the look.
To brighten the all-black look, she adds two pops of red with a clutch (similar to this Vieta one) and red lip. We recommend going minimal with the rest of your makeup, like Moore did, if you plan on doing a bold pout.
What’s especially great about this outfit, though, is that each piece is versatile — so remix them and wear them differently for another night out soon! Tell us: What are you up to this weekend?
