At five-ft., 10-in. tall, actress Liv Tyler towers over many people in Hollywood. But that certainly isn’t stopping her from slipping on some stilettos. “I’m obsessed with wearing heels all the time now, these Louboutin heels,” she tells Nylon magazine. “They’re really comfortable.” However Tyler, who claims her rockin’ dad steals her clothes, wasn’t always such a fan of being so, er, well-heeled. “I was this tall when I was, I think, 11? So at 11, I was five-ft., 10-in. and I had a size 10 shoes,” she says about once hesitating to accentuate her height. Today, though, it’s a different story. “This came to me like a light bulb recently, like, ‘Why am I so shy when I’m tall?’ and ‘Why do I feel better in flats and Converse? Oh I bet it’s because I was a giant at 11 years old, and I was so much taller than everyone. Hollywood might be high maintenance, but Liv Tyler isn’t. “I really like classic looks in the summer — things that feel nice and flowy,” the actress revealed at the Cinema Society and Grey Goose-sponsored screening of her new film, The Ledge, on Tuesday. Her summertime essentials? “Little Bensimon sneakers and cut-off jean shorts, a little striped blue and white shirt,” she said. “I really want to go shopping and get some new summer dresses.” Tyler’s beauty regimen is as low-key as her wardrobe choices. “I don’t really do a lot to my hair,” she shared. “I wash it and put a lot of conditioner in it.” No blow dryers or curling irons required! It’s no secret that Liv Tyler and Stella McCartney are good girlfriends. Even their mothers were BFFs. “[I've known Stella] since she was a baby … yes, seriously,” Tyler’s mom Bebe Buell told PEOPLE Wednesday at the opening of the new Stella McCartney boutique in New York’s Saks Fifth Avenue. “Her mother [Linda] was a very good friend.” However, Tyler and McCartney recall bonding later in life. “I think I met you at Kate [Moss's] house,” McCartney reminded Tyler during the stylish bash. Regardless of where or how they met, the ladies share secrets, lunches and of course, fashion. “She’s very sweet about sending presents,” Tyler said of her pal. “I should say my favorite things I get to have first are the kids’ line or lingerie. I really appreciate a nice pair of panties.” And her son Milo, 6, appreciates the boys’ clothes — sometimes. “[There are] high-top sneakers that I love … little corduroy trousers and nice sweaters,” Tyler said. “But he would be happy if he could be in his pajamas all day.” Especially when mom tries to dress him up. “I kept trying to put him in the Sergeant Pepper jacket from [McCartney's collection for] The Gap. I feel really proud of him,” she says. “I think he’s a really amazing, magical man and all those funny things that he says that people find so strange, my whole life I’ve been hearing them and they make me laugh. Chess prodigy Magnus Carlsen became a Grandmaster at age 13, and at age 19, he’s not only ranked as the world’s number one player, but he’s also taking on the fashion industry—co-starring in the latest G-Star Raw ads with Liv Tyler and sharing the red carpet with the Hollywood beauty during New York Fashion Week. “She’s nice,” said Magnus of the actress, who showed off her signature rocker-chic style in one of her favorite pairs of G-Star Raw jeans at the brand’s spring 2011 collection in N.Y.C. on Tuesday. “I’ve been wearing them about a year,” said Liv, who admitted that after doing sit-down interviews all afternoon, the back end of her jeans had acquired a “lowish, saggy butt.” And when it came to her denim co-model Magnus, she had nothing but praise. “First of all he’s such a bad ass. I said, ‘You’re a bad MF’,” explained Liv, who not only fronts G-Star’s campaign but also serves as a muse for the brand‘s newest collection. “He had never modeled before ever in his life. We were on a roof in Miami and it was 110 degrees. And he came out and was calm and just stood there and [Tyler scowls with attitude]” and I was, like, “Magnus. . . For her second season as G-Star Raw brand ambassador, the brunette beauty is helping the Dutch denim label fuse Hollywood glamour with the world of chess. Shot by celebrated photographer Anton Corbijn in Miami, Tyler models G-Star Raw’s famous destroyed denim paired with styles from the new Correct Line range, alongside world class chess player Magnus Carlsen, who will show off the men’s range. Good pals Liv Tyler, Kate Hudson and Stella McCartney not only worked the red carpet hand-in-hand at last night’s Metropolitan Museum Costume Institute Gala, they also pre-gamed together. “We all got ready together, and literally it was like a hen night, you know? We wasted a lot of hours with drinking and gossiping,” McCartney told PEOPLE of her time spent styling the actresses in her custom designs earlier that afternoon. Tyler, who wore a delicate black mini-dress with a train, chimed in, “We have the little ritual where we meet at like 2 or 3 and we drink champagne and we do hair and makeup and we take pictures and gossip and have a great time and feel really grateful.” So were a lot of important style decisions made during this girly get-together? “We just sat all together and shared hair and makeup, and we’d kind of go, ‘Oh no, make your braid looser or tighter. We like that, we like this,’” said Tyler, referencing Hudson’s plaited hair–a chic accessory to her custom sweeping, off-the-shoulder blush gown. And though the three all wore Stella McCartney creations, their looks remained distinct. “[The dresses were] made for the girls, so they’re very much specific for them,” explained the designer. “I think you can kind of tell in the way they move and the way they’re wearing [them] is very much their personalities, which I think is important when you’re designing for people.” And though each one looked regal in her final dress, it was hard to tell which part was more fun: the pre-party or the gala itself? For old-fashioned, girly gossip, she heads to McCartney’s house in the English countryside. “Once our kids are asleep it’s ‘grab the wine’, and talk turns to boys and husbands,” she says. When not dishing with Stella, the 32-year-old actress can be found in the equally glamorous company of buddy Kate Moss. “I love playing dress-up with her and her closet,” she says of her sartorially gifted friend. In a fitting tribute to London Fashion Week’s 25th anniversary, Christopher Bailey brought a touch of Hollywood glamour to the capital with his latest collection for Burberry Prorsum. On the star-studded front row, Gwyneth Paltrow took her spot next to Burberry campaign model, Emma Watson but not before rushing over to greet the famous editor-turned-movie star, Anna Wintour. “That’s so weird because I literally just saw your movie last night — I loved it!,” gushed Paltrow. Victoria Beckham, Liv Tyler, Mary-Kate Olsen, Frieda Pinto and the brand’s face Emma Watson were also seated front row at the show, where the theme was ‘traditional Burberry with a twist’ (think trench coats encrusted with silver rocks and ruched mini-dresses in pale pastel hues). “I thought it was brilliant,” Posh told PEOPLE backstage adding, “I loved the colors a lot and the accessories were great.” Frieda Pinto couldn’t have agreed more, herself in a pale yellow dress straight off the runway, she gushed to PEOPLE, “There were so many colours out there I would wear, it was hard to choose!” As Christopher Bailey was greeted by his famous friends, he told PEOPLE how honored he was to have their support. “We had people flying over just for tonight, it was unbelievable and really emotional actually.” At the after party, Liv headed for the stage to see The Kooks perform live, saying “Everything was just beautiful, and so I’m happy to be back in London. For most New Yorkers, a chance to have a cocktail on one of the private roof gardens of Rockefeller Center is reason enough to head to a party, but add in some of Hollywood’s most stylish stars and a jaw-dropping collection of diamonds from Piaget, and you have an invitation that the fashion elite simply couldn’t say no to. While Leighton Meester and Emmy Rossum, both in strapless dresses, chatted excitedly on what part of the roofdeck, Liv Tyler and Maggie Gyllenhaal found a quiet place to sit and chat. And besides the glittering jewels and the amazing views of St. Patrick’s Cathedral, the buzz of the night was how slim and gorgeous both Tyler and Gyllenhaal looked. Liv told PEOPLE that she can’t credit exercise with her slim figure, “I’d like to work out, I’d like to do exercise, it would be good for me, but. . .” Whatever she’s doing or not doing, she certainly looked as flawless in her Oscar de la Renta dress as the diamonds in the featured Limelight Paris-New York collection.

Liv Tyler isn’t just in Paris this week to check out the couture shows — although she did make a front row appearance at Christian Dior already — she’s in the City of Lights with her younger sister Chelsea to ring in her 31st birthday. At the the Blue Soiree at the Hotel Crillon for Lanvin and Acne (celebrating the companies’ joint collaboration on a denim-wear collection), the Lanvin-clad actress tells PEOPLE that she’s “excited” for her getaway. “It’s my birthday tomorrow and I’m going to spend it with my sister and we’re going to a Givenchy show,” says Tyler. “I’m excited to have a little fun here with my sister.” But at that very moment, she was even more excited to see the man of the hour, whom she greeted with hugs and kisses. “I love Alber Elbaz. He’s such a kind man. I love Lanvin — he made it [the dress] for me,” she gushed of the diminutive designer. Other guests in attendance included Eva Mendes, in a swirling Dior dress, and uber-stylist Rachel Zoe.
