In a fitting tribute to London Fashion Week’s 25th anniversary, Christopher Bailey brought a touch of Hollywood glamour to the capital with his latest collection for Burberry Prorsum. On the star-studded front row, Gwyneth Paltrow took her spot next to Burberry campaign model, Emma Watson but not before rushing over to greet the famous editor-turned-movie star, Anna Wintour. “That’s so weird because I literally just saw your movie last night — I loved it!,” gushed Paltrow. Victoria Beckham, Liv Tyler, Mary-Kate Olsen, Frieda Pinto and the brand’s face Emma Watson were also seated front row at the show, where the theme was ‘traditional Burberry with a twist’ (think trench coats encrusted with silver rocks and ruched mini-dresses in pale pastel hues). “I thought it was brilliant,” Posh told PEOPLE backstage adding, “I loved the colors a lot and the accessories were great.” Frieda Pinto couldn’t have agreed more, herself in a pale yellow dress straight off the runway, she gushed to PEOPLE, “There were so many colours out there I would wear, it was hard to choose!” As Christopher Bailey was greeted by his famous friends, he told PEOPLE how honored he was to have their support. “We had people flying over just for tonight, it was unbelievable and really emotional actually.” At the after party, Liv headed for the stage to see The Kooks perform live, saying “Everything was just beautiful, and so I’m happy to be back in London. It really is my favorite city, besides New York, of course!” –Monique Jessen

Centering on a “Create Your Own” theme, the black and white images, shot by fashion photographer Mikael Jansson, feature each style star wearing Gap designs in their own way. Liv Tyler keeps it casual in a boyfriend cardigan from new creative director Patrick Robinson’s first full collection for the brand. For most New Yorkers, a chance to have a cocktail on one of the private roof gardens of Rockefeller Center is reason enough to head to a party, but add in some of Hollywood’s most stylish stars and a jaw-dropping collection of diamonds from Piaget, and you have an invitation that the fashion elite simply couldn’t say no to. While Leighton Meester and Emmy Rossum, both in strapless dresses, chatted excitedly on what part of the roofdeck, Liv Tyler and Maggie Gyllenhaal found a quiet place to sit and chat. And besides the glittering jewels and the amazing views of St. Patrick’s Cathedral, the buzz of the night was how slim and gorgeous both Tyler and Gyllenhaal looked. Liv told PEOPLE that she can’t credit exercise with her slim figure, “I’d like to work out, I’d like to do exercise, it would be good for me, but. . .” Whatever she’s doing or not doing, she certainly looked as flawless in her Oscar de la Renta dress as the diamonds in the featured Limelight Paris-New York collection.

Liv Tyler isn’t just in Paris this week to check out the couture shows — although she did make a front row appearance at Christian Dior already — she’s in the City of Lights with her younger sister Chelsea to ring in her 31st birthday. At the the Blue Soiree at the Hotel Crillon for Lanvin and Acne (celebrating the companies’ joint collaboration on a denim-wear collection), the Lanvin-clad actress tells PEOPLE that she’s “excited” for her getaway. “It’s my birthday tomorrow and I’m going to spend it with my sister and we’re going to a Givenchy show,” says Tyler. “I’m excited to have a little fun here with my sister.” But at that very moment, she was even more excited to see the man of the hour, whom she greeted with hugs and kisses. “I love Alber Elbaz. He’s such a kind man. I love Lanvin — he made it [the dress] for me,” she gushed of the diminutive designer. Other guests in attendance included Eva Mendes, in a swirling Dior dress, and uber-stylist Rachel Zoe.

Fresh from filming The Incredible Hulk, Liv Tyler took time yesterday to promote the new ad campaign for Very Irresistible Givenchy at Sephora in New York City. Tyler, the face of the fragrance since 2003, reveals to PEOPLE why the floral scent is still her favorite. “I personally don’t like it when perfumes are too strong,” she says. “I always love when you can say hello to someone and you can give them a kiss or a hug and you sort of faintly smell something and say, ‘Oh, my goodness, what is that?’ It makes me want to go back for a second smell. There are two different versions, one is a little bit stronger and a little bit musky if you wanted something a bit more intense for evening.” As for Tyler’s intense schedule of late, she confesses that she’s just trying to re-adjust. “I’ve been in such in another world! I’ve been away for four months making this film. I haven’t done anything but go from set to bed from bed to the car to set.”

While there was no shortage of head-turning fashions walking up the Metropolitan Museum’s red-carpeted steps last night, these three leading ladies stood out for their unsually bold looks. We’re not sure how, but Jennifer Garner gracefully managed her ascent in this vivid red vintage Valentino Haute Couture gown. Lucy Liu popped in her purple Zac Posen dress, and Liv Tyler played up her creamy pale skin in a turqouise sheath paired with bright red lips. While many other stars opted for black (Mary Kate Olsen, Kate Moss, Lindsay Lohan) or metallic (Kate Bosworth, Jennifer Hudson, Jessica Simpson) we love this bright trend and hope it continues into fall. We’ve watched Liv Tyler grow up from starring in Aerosmith videos as a rebellious teenager to starring in the Lord of the Rings as an elfin beauty. But our favorite role for her is just being herself — a beautiful and low-key mother and wife. Usually we see her staying out of the spotlight and just living her life in New York, but recently she has stepped back on the red carpet, looking more beautiful than ever. Always a woman with curves, she plays up her great figure and height (5′10″) with elegant dresses that are both glamorous (Marchesa, right) and ladylike (Derek Lam, left). As she approaches 30 next year, Liv is looking better than ever!

Usually, a night at the opera is more old-school than It-girl — unless the opera is Madame Butterfly staged by powerhouse movie director Anthony Minghella (Cold Mountain, The Talented Mr. Ripley). Last night, the Metropolitan Opera house in New York was filled with some of Hollywood’s biggest stars, dressed in their red carpet best. Sienna Miller (right) left her tough London attire at home and came in an exquisite princess-style Marchesa gown and Cartier diamonds along with the ultimate accessory, on-again, off-again beau Jude Law. Other couples included Naomi Watts, in a beautiful floral Roberto Cavalli, and Liev Schreiber, and the always-stylish Iman and David Bowie. Liv Tyler and designer Zac Posen mugged for the cameras, while Meg Ryan (left) made a rare appearance, looking extra lovely in a Jil Sander gown with flowing train. With all these stars in the audience, we bet the scene at intermission was nearly as exciting as the drama onstage (which did indeed get glowing reviews).

I have not yet reached a place in my life where I can spend more money on a handbag than I have on my refrigerator. But Liv Tyler’s convertible Prada handbag which costs about $2700 (several fridges!) is so everyday perfect, I am determined to find one similar. The beauty lies in its two handle-lengths design. That way, when the bag gets too heavy for your shoulder — as mine often does thanks to magazine overload — you can switch to carrying it by hand without having it dragging on the ground. Luckily, the “convertible” seems to be a popular model this season, and I have found a few variations. Which of these do you like the best? Have you seen any that I’ve missed? — Angela Matusik

1. (Above right) Active Endeavors’ Anna Corinna Lady Duffel, $429, looks amazingly versatile. But too much like a gym bag, perhaps?

2. Miu Miu’s Scamosciato Old Satchel, $1050 at Neiman Marcus, is similar to big sister Prada’s, but still a major investment.

3. Betsey Johnson’s large tote, $385 at Nordstrom, looks like it would do the job nicely, but I’m not sure about all that rock-n-roll hardware.

4. Anthropologie’s, Sly Fox shoulder bag, $578, is aptly named. It’s actually two handbags in one — sneaky!

5. And finally Cole Haan’s large convertible tote, $425, has all the tricks of the others, but looks a bit more sophisticated.
