You’ll Never Believe What Ruined Lea Michele’s Spray Tan

Nov/14/2012 at 12:30 PM ET

We’ve endured our fair share of beauty mishaps, but nothing comes close to what happened to Lea Michele recently.

The Glee star stopped by The Tonight Show with Jay Leno on Monday and shared a story about the time a dog peed all over her right after she got a spray tan. Yep — a pup had the nerve to make a wee-wee on Rachel Berry! Here’s what happened:

Lea Michele Describes Her Perfect Party Dress

We’re used to seeing her in floor-length gowns on the red carpet, but for a night out, Lea Michele prefers something with a shorter hemline.

“The perfect party dress is a cute mini,” the Glee star told PEOPLE at the Candie’s Virtual Pop-Up Shop launch this weekend in Los Angeles. “But it has to stand on its own, you shouldn’t need a lot of accessories, hair or makeup,” she added. “Something that you can just throw on and it’s fabulous in its own sense.”

And even though she’s the unofficial spokeswoman for skin-tight silhouettes and daring plunging necklines that require strategically placed double-stick tape, Michele says it’s also important to be comfortable. “You can’t say, ‘If I suck this part in or don’t eat!’”

But a mini isn’t appropriate for every occasion — like a black-tie wedding or if you’re a star like Michele, a huge awards show — which is why the actress also says it’s important to dress for where you’re going. “I really loved [my dress] at the first Golden Globes I attended. I had this beautiful black Oscar de la Renta gown that I wore,” Michele said. “I felt like a princess that day and it just felt so perfect for that event.”

Lea Michele L'Oreal Sara Jaye Weiss

She’s one of the biggest stars on television, has a smoking hot boyfriend and regularly shows off her body in sexy plunging gowns on the red carpet. However, Lea Michele is still stunned about being named the newest face of L’Oréal Paris.

“Growing up I was never really considered the typical beauty,” Michele tells WWD. “So the fact that I’m now the face of such an incredible company and brand is so awesome — that they would look at me and consider me is unbelievable.”

Maybe she’s just being modest. But in case Michele needs a self-confidence boost, we’d like to direct her attention to this stunning image, which was snapped while she was getting ready for a party for the beauty brand in New York City on Monday.

Lea Michele has a little something extra to sing about today: as earlier rumors suggested, the actress was just named the newest face of L’Oréal Paris.

“I’m overjoyed and beyond honored to be a part of the L’Oréal Paris family,” the actress tells PEOPLE exclusively. “I’m such a fan of L’Oréal Paris not just for all of their amazing products, but for what they stand for. I’m so thankful to be a part of a television show that promotes inner beauty and self-worth. Now to be a part of this amazing family that expresses the same amazing message is such an honor.”

The Glee star joins a talented roster of brand ambassadors, which includes Jennifer Lopez, Beyoncé, Gwen Stefani and Eva Longoria, among others. “This is such a dream come true,” Michele says.

“A beautiful woman inside and out, Lea truly exemplifies our brand philosophy, ‘Because You’re Worth It,’” L’Oréal Paris USA president Karen T. Fondu adds in a release. “We are so honored to welcome her as a member of the family.”

How the Ladies of ‘Glee’ Are Updating Their Looks for Season 4

Lea Michele‘s Glee character, Rachel Berry, has not only graduated on to college, but it sounds like her style has grown up as well.

“There may or may not be a little makeover happening,” Michele, whose Rachel is off to the New York Academy of Dramatic Arts, hinted to PEOPLE on Wednesday at the FOX show’s season 4 premiere in L.A. “We do have Sarah Jessica Parker on our show this season, so it would only be right.”

It’s an exciting upgrade for the star, who seemingly didn’t relate to Rachel’s high school style.

“I’m very happy,” she said. “Now I can leave work and keep my hair and makeup and actually want to wear my clothes out to dinner and stuff like that.”

A similar change is happening for Jenna Ushkowitz’s Tina Cohen-Chang, who’s staying behind in Ohio for her senior year of high school.

“She gets to wear bangs this year, and she … matures,” the actress shared. “We finessed her. She went from the goth and all the layers and corsets to black dresses, and then we went into color.”

Lea Michele: ‘I Still Always Look for Half-Price Sales’

Aug/21/2012 at 09:00 AM ET

It’s obvious that Rachel Berry doesn’t influence Lea Michele‘s personal style, but something else does — and it’s not another fashionista.

“New York City really does,” Michelle tells PEOPLE. “I think growing up in New York, and seeing the effortless style and the street style [that it's known for] has modeled my style.”

Since Glee primarily shoots on the West Coast, the star brings a piece of home with her when she returns to set. “I wear lots of black in L.A.,” she jokes.

Recently, Michele has upped her fashion game, stepping out on the red carpet in Pucci, Versace and Zac Posen, but her personal shopping habits aren’t as glamorous. “I’m not a big spender,” she admits.”I still always look for the half-price sales.”

But like most women, she does splurge every so often. “Every six months or so, I will do the one nice bag, or the one nice pair of shoes, or the one nice piece of jewelry,” Michele says.

The actress’s latest big purchase? Bling. “I decided to buy a nice necklace, ring and earrings so that I have a set to wear every single day.” Tell us: What’s the last item you splurged on?
