Pants on the Red Carpet: Yea or Nay?

Minka‘s done it. Olivia and Rachel, too. But is wearing pants to a red carpet event a do or a don’t?

Obviously it’s not a new trend — hello, Tilda Swinton! — but lately it’s seeming more mainstream. Cameron Diaz was the latest star to try the look, wearing a ’70s-inspired pantsuit designed by pal Stella McCartney to the What to Expect When You’re Expecting premiere in London Tuesday night.

Kristen Stewart followed suit Wednesday, choosing patterned Balenciaga pants to complement her black blazer, Juicy Couture top, Cartier bracelet and heels while walking the carpet in Cannes.

What do you think? Are fancy pants OK for the carpet? Or do you prefer to see your favorite stars in dresses? Vote in our poll below!

Why Kristen Stewart Wears Leggings Throughout ‘Snow White and the Huntsman’

Snow White and the Huntsman is not only action-packed, it’s fashion-packed! Nine-time Academy Award-nominated costume designer Colleen Atwood, who managed the movie’s innumerable looks, recently spilled all of the details on the film’s fierce wardrobe to FabSugar.

Kristen Stewart‘s Snow White has countless fighting scenes, so it was important for Atwood to choose practical looks for her. “I knew from the start she had to have shoes she could run in,” Atwood explained. “[And] since she falls down and goes ass-over-elbows a million times, I had to have some kind of legging to cover her up.”

Kristen Stewart Tapped for Balenciaga Fragrance Campaign

Kristen Stewart Named New Face of Balenciaga
Zak Hussein/INF

They may as well call it ‘Bella By Starlight.’

Balenciaga has signed Twilight actress Kristen Stewart as a spokesperson for its perfume line, the Paris fashion house has confirmed to PEOPLE. Stewart’s still-unnamed fragrance and campaign are expected to launch in the fall.

“I love Balenciaga fashion because it’s incredibly forceful, yet feminine and sexy,” Stewart says in a release. “I found out there was a real creative freedom about this project. I feel blessed and really proud of being the face of this new fragrance.”

“Kristen embodies the modernity of the new Balenciaga fragrance with her unique sensibility and intelligence,” designer Nicolas Ghesquière, who first worked with the actress in a 2006 Bruce Weber shoot, tells WWD. Since that time, he adds, “I’ve always wished to collaborate with her further, knowing that she shares the radical spirit of Balenciaga.”

Carolina Herrera: Kristen Stewart Was ‘Moved’ by the ‘Breaking Dawn’ Wedding Dress

Breaking Dawn Wedding Dress: Carolina Herrera Sketch

We knew the gown Carolina Herrera created specifically for the Breaking Dawn wedding took six months to design and that it left Robert Pattinson floored, but in the new issue of Town & Country Weddings, the designer reveals Kristen Stewart‘s very personal reaction.

“We did three fittings. When she initially put on the dress and looked over her shoulder into the mirror, she was very moved,” Herrera tells the mag, on stands Wednesday. “In that moment she was not an actress or a character in a film but instead a bride, and a happy one at that.”

The dress seen in the sketch (left) is what the designer calls a “union between Stephenie [Meyer's] description in the book and the Herrera bridal aesthetic” — something she has been perfecting for 25 years.

“I took into consideration the character of Bella and Kristen’s portrayal of her, and what this fantasy character would choose to wear for the most important day of her life,” she explains of the masterpiece, which retails for $35,000. “It’s made of a crepe satin with two inserts on the front and beautiful silk thread topstitching. The neckline is a slight V, just enough to see the collarbones. The back is oval-shaped, with a Chantilly lace border veiled in tulle. It’s very romantic, and when all the details come together, it creates a vision specific to Bella’s style and personality.”

Where to Find Bella Swan’s Carolina Herrera Wedding Gown

Breaking Dawn Wedding Gown
Summit (2)

Twilight fans can’t marry Edward Cullen, unfortunately, but they can look like Bella Swan when walking down the aisle. Designer Carolina Herrera recently announced that the dress she created for the Breaking Dawn wedding will be reproduced, and according to instyle.com, it’ll be available at her New York, Los Angeles, Bal Harbour and Dallas boutiques.

It won’t be so easy to get the gown, though; Herrera plans to make every crepe satin and French Chantilly lace dress by hand, so they’ll each come with a hefty price tag of $35,000.
