Red Carpet Trend Report: Clear Clutches, Messy Braids and Saying Goodbye to Tights

Yes, we’re looking forward to trying these two hot-right-now red carpet trends, but what we’re most excited about is the fact that it’s just about time to stash our tights out of sight for the next nine months.

Up: Lucite Clutches. Everyone from Elisabeth Moss to Solange Knowles to Rosario Dawson, above, has been spotted carrying these crystal-clear, hard-sided bags. They look so cool and modern that we’re ready to give this trend a try, with one major caveat: we don’t have special handlers to carry the seven million things we normally need in our purse, so the effect might be somewhat less striking.

When choosing her look for the Kids’ Choice Awards Saturday night, Kristen Stewart had to be a savvy planner, choosing a hairstyle that would go with her edgy Osman shorts suit — and withstand a possible sliming.

So she turned to Fekkai stylist Adir Abergel for an undone fishtail braid that looked gorgeous and sassy on the red carpet, and held up remarkably well underneath a bucket of green goo onstage.

The star’s pretty braid is perfect for the spring days ahead — it’s breezy, sexy and will last through a long day outside that turns into a night out. Want to get the look yourself? Below, Abergel shares how he created the style for Stewart:

From Gaga’s Golden Wheelchair to Demi’s Bedazzled Boot: How Stars Nurse Injuries — Stylishly

If you thought Lady Gaga would be recovering from her hip surgery like any other citizen — well, you obviously haven’t been paying enough attention.

After laying low for a few weeks to recover, the perpetually surprising singer rolled out her latest accessory — literally. She wheeled out of her N.Y.C. hotel (see the pic here) in a 24-karat gold-plated wheelchair created for her by jewelry designer Ken Borochov from Mordekai, whom she’d previously tapped to create a gold claw for her fragrance launch.

The chair features a tufted leather seat and a removable canopy, which is why Borochov said in a statement, “I was thrilled to create what I affectionately dubbed the Chariot, a chair fit only for a queen.”

Buy Kristen Stewart’s Oscar Shoes — They’re Just $90!

As soon as we saw Kristen Stewart arrive at the Academy Awards on crutches because she’d cut her foot on glass a few days before, we all had the same thought: She finally has a great excuse to wear those old sneakers she loves so much. (It wouldn’t be the first time she’s worn them on a red carpet.)

So we were surprised to learn that instead of wearing high-tops or beaten-up Chuck Taylors, Stewart went with one Jimmy Choo heel and one cute, chic, Oscars-appropriate flat on her injured foot.

The flat she wore on the carpet (and later while presenting the award for Achievement in Production Design alongside Daniel Radcliffe) was half of a silver pair of Bloch “Fonteyn” ballet slippers from the brand’s 2012 collection. And you can pick them up for $90 (some colors are even cheaper!) at Zappos, in case you ever have a Stewart moment and can’t fathom strutting around in skyscraper stilettos. Tell us: What do you think of the flats? Are you at least a little impressed that she didn’t opt for sneakers?

Naeem Khan’s breathtaking designs are beloved by stars as diverse as Katy Perry, Michelle Obama and Lea Michele — and after seeing the stunning, sparkling gowns the designer sent down the runway last week, we have a feeling he’ll be adding another celeb fan to his lineup Sunday night.

“I designed my Autumn/Winter 2013 collection with the Academy Awards in mind,” Khan tells PEOPLE of his most recent collection, which was full of elegant dresses featuring his signature intricate beadwork and feminine details. “Every gown is really an ‘Oscar gown.’”

Nonetheless, he accepted our difficult challenge to narrow it down to three pieces he’d love to see walk the Oscars red carpet. He declined to name names, but we definitely have a wish list of A-listers we’d love to see step out in these options this weekend.
