Kate Hudson: 'I Can't Afford to Buy' the Dresses I Wear on Red Carpets!

Kate Hudson may be known for her red carpet glamour (some major moments can be seen here, here and here — and they also happen to be her favorites from the last year) but she wants to set the record straight on one thing: Those gowns go back the minute she takes them off.

“People think we own all these dresses,” she says in the December/January issue of Harper’s Bazaar, “but we borrow them! I can’t afford to buy that stuff. There are certain things I splurge on, but it’s very rare, especially when you have two kids and school tuition. I’m not a big high-end fashion shopper. I wish I could, but the truth is things are just so expensive.”

This Week's Best Dressed Star: Kate Beckinsale Gives Us Wardrobe and Hair Envy

Nov/09/2013 at 09:00 AM ET

We figured after seeing the parade of jaw-dropping gowns at the LACMA Art + Film Gala we’d have a Best Dressed winner in the bunch, and we were totally right (don’t mind us, just patting ourselves on the back). In fact, we’re not even sure we’d have a Top 10 list this week without the event, as it was responsible for six of the most loved looks.

Leading the pack with a 95% approval rating was Kate Beckinsale in a stunning strapless Gucci gown that made her look like an Old Hollywood siren (we love the embroidered waist detail!). Plus, as usual, her hair gave us serious mane envy. And Olivia Wilde trailed closely behind in a Gucci halter dress that put all other maternity wear to shame.

Our favorite gown of the week rounded out the Top 10: Kate Hudson’s insane Gucci gown — actually, is it even considered a gown if it’s more of a blush skirt with two tiny strips of silver fabric? Regardless, she looked unreal, and we’d like to award her with an honorary Best Dressed title.

Which Kate did you prefer: Beckinsale or Hudson? Or do you think the title should go to someone totally different. Share your thoughts below!

Red Carpet Trend Report: The Scoop on Short Hair Mania, Super Skin-Baring Gowns and the Lipstick You Need to Put Down (For Now)

In our weekly roundup of the looks that are gaining fashion ground (and the ones losing their style street cred), we pegged the hottest accessory on the carpet (and not it’s not an accessory at all!), plus, the hairstyle taking over Hollywood and a shade of lipstick that needs to take five.

Up: Pixie cuts. We’ve come down with a bad case of celebrity hair exhaustion from writing about all the dramatic cuts that have been happening. Probably the most shocking: Jennifer Lawrence said goodbye to her shoulder-length do (in her own words, “My hair couldn’t get any uglier”) for a classic side-swept pixie crop. And J.Law is not alone. Pamela Anderson, Kristin Chenoweth and Jennifer Hudson have also lopped off their long strands for super-short styles. Short hair is where it’s at, y’all.
