The Secret Behind Kate Bosworth’s Effortlessly Chic Style

Sure she’s known for her spot-on fashion choices, but how does Kate Bosworth always manage to look so polished? Just ask her stylist and longtime friend, Cher Coulter.

“She’s got this effortless approach to style, and never overdoes it,” Coulter tells PEOPLE of the actress. “She’s also fun and fashionable and willing to take risks. She’s simple, chic and always looks happy in what she’s wearing.”

Naturally, Bosworth stays up on the latest trends, but surprisingly comfort plays a part in her daily outfit selection, too. “We like to get creative with current trends, but Kate has to feel good and comfortable,” says Coulter, who partnered with the actress to launch JewelMint, a subscription-based site that curates earrings, rings, necklaces and bracelets for shoppers based on their personal preferences. And that’s one reason the jeans queen can always be seen rocking denim.

Though she has her pick of high-fashion items, Kate Bosworth has some guidelines when it comes to selecting her always-stylish looks: namely, siding with talented designers who are also pleasant people.

“I’ve always seen fashion as embracing the individual, although yes, I understand that there are parts of the industry that aren’t so welcoming,” she tells BlackBook magazine. “But I look at the Proenza Schouler boys … they’re so kind and they make such brilliant designs. The Rodarte sisters, too. It may be idealistic, but I like to think that goodness rises to the top.”

Bosworth’s stylist Cher Coulter must be pretty nice, then; one year ago, the longtime friends launched JewelMint, a subscription-based e-commerce site that curates earrings, rings, necklaces and bracelets for shoppers based on their personal preferences, revealed in a style quiz. JewelMint is run by BeachMint, which also runs the Olsens’ StyleMint — a site that follows the same model with T-shirts — and on Oct. 1, will launch Jessica Simpson and aesthetician Nerida Joy’s BeautyMint, offering subscribers anti-aging skincare products.

Kate Bosworth is taking the breakup blues to a new level by rocking turquoise-tinged strands.

Following the lead of fellow singleton Lauren Conrad, the star debuted the new hue Wednesday night, weeks after her split from Alexander Skarsgard. But unlike Conrad, Bosworth’s look is more overt, calling to mind the graduated dip-dye from Proenza Scouler’s spring 2010 runway show. Always the trendsetter, could she be taking the high-fashion look mainstream?

As it turns out, the actress dyed her hair for a photo shoot earlier in the day. BeautyHigh.com reports that Bosworth let stylist Luke Chamberlain color her locks, instead of adding extensions, as he’d intended.

What’s Kate Bosworth Wearing This Spring?

She’s dazzled us with her chic style and impressed us with her jewelry designing skills. And now, Kate Bosworth is giving us a sneak peek inside some of her favorite fashion finds. The new Cotton spokeswoman is sharing a list of items she’s loving right now as the May guest editor on WhoWhatWear, a celebrity style and shopping site. Bosworth reveals her current must-haves, including a $350 pair of oversized Celine sunglasses she calls “classic, but with an edge,” and a pair of summery Stella McCartney mid-rise wide-leg denim shorts, $515, just in time for the warmer weather. When it comes to dressing for summer soirees, the actress says that “Carven has the best looks for party chic. A little flirty, but in a tomboy kind of way — I find that combination so appealing.” And for dressing down, Bosworth is a fan of the $235 mesh tanks from Isabel Marant (pictured). “I love to layer [them] underneath a dress or top,” she says. “That hint of texture is super cool.” Beyond the jewelry and clothing, Bosworth actually has an unusual choice for her final fave: a good book. Kate Bosworth Sings Cotton’s Praises in New Ad

Kate Bosworth is so stoked about her stint as the new face of Cotton’s “Fabric of Our Lives” campaign that she’s singing the ad’s praises — literally! In a new commercial for Cotton Inc., Bosworth sings the company’s catchy jingle just like another face of the brand, Zooey Deschanel. The 30-second spot depicts a casual and chic Bosworth in a series of vignettes that show her at work and at play, all while wearing cotton creations by Prada, Rodarte and Nina Ricci. Stars Love Dolce & Gabbana’s White Dresses!

With the royal wedding days away, white dresses are on everybody’s minds — none more so than the starlets who have stepped out in the wildly popular minidresses from Dolce & Gabbana’s Spring 2011 fashion show. The collection was actually modeled on a bride’s hope chest, the designers said at September’s show in Milan; this was evident in the pure hue and delicate lacy details on the dresses, which have become white-hot in Hollywood. Though each dress recalls the other, the starlets put their own spin on them, from Kate Bosworth‘s military jacket and pointy-toe boots, to Anne Hathaway‘s killer platforms and side-swept locks, to Blake Lively‘s chic two-tone cardigan and suede booties. Diane Kruger and LeAnn Rimes let the dress (and their killer legs) shine, adding only simple shoes and sweeping their hair up.
