Tim Gunn Slams the Kardashian Family for Their 'Distasteful' Style, Calls Kanye West's Fashion Line 'Dumb'

Nov/06/2015 at 01:19 PM ET

Just when you thought Kanye West and the Kardashian Krew officially “made it” in the high-fashion world (his Yeezy Season 1 collection sold-out, he’s being honored the Shoe of the Year award and the Kardashian-Jenners have befriended every couture designer in the industry), one fashion insider still isn’t buying the (insanely expensive) pieces they’re selling. In a new interview for the Huffington Post, Project Runway‘s Tim Gunn called the family, “vulgar” and “distasteful” — and that’s just the beginning of how he feels.

Kanye West's Yeezy Season 1 Line Sold Out, Despite Fans' Complaints

Oct/29/2015 at 09:37 PM ET

Although many fans are complaining about the high prices of Kanye West‘s Yeezy Season 1, the rapper’s debut clothing line sold out much of its stock almost instantly — and then ended up on eBay.

The line, which was on display at this year’s New York Fashion Week, features baggy sweatshirts, sweats, and distinctly tattered and oversized tops, along with jackets and signature boots.

Many of West’s fans took to Twitter to voice their discontent at the prices, yet the Yeezy Season collection — available at limited retailers like Barneys, SSENSE, and Mr. Porter — has almost completely sold out.

Prices range from $340 for a “thermal knit shirt” to $3,510 for a “faux-fur-trimmed oversized parka,” with tags in between covering the cost of backpacks, sweats and sweaters.

West, 38, has not responded to any of the backlash or apparent success from his near sold-out debut. However, he has been open in the past about wanting his clothes to be accessible to everyone.

“I don’t want them to be limited actually,” he said during an interview with Power 105 FM’s The Breakfast Club. “That’s something that the company did. I really want as many people to get them as possible. I didn’t want the price to be $350. I don’t want to play this sneaker culture game and all this so they be reselling them for high prices and stuff. I just want people to have what I make.”

Kanye West: 'Sweatshirts Are F---ing Important'

Sep/24/2015 at 12:00 PM ET

Presidential candidates need to state their positions early and take a firm stand to rise above the noise. Think Bernie Sanders, with his single-payer healthcare system, or Donald Trump, with his constantly calling everyone ugly. So it just makes sense that 2020 presidential candidate Kanye West is already staking his claim to an issue he feels is not being taken seriously enough in this country: The importance of sweatshirts.
