Julianne Hough's DWTS Photo Diary: Week One's All About the Glam

Sep/16/2014 at 10:23 AM ET

Julianne Hough may be on the judging panel instead of the dance floor in her new role on Dancing with the Stars, but that doesn’t mean you won’t see her in another sequin all season. In fact, she kicked off her first night at the table with a super-glitzy silver beaded gown by Lorena Sarbu, complete with a retro pin-curled hairdo and a neckline that had host Tom Bergeron joking that “the ballroom is bursting with enthusiasm!” Hough, 26, will be joining us each week to share personal pics from her pre-show prep — below, get a peek at her week one getting-ready routine.

We may tease stars’ Coachella style (out of love, we swear) but we admit — they somehow pull off so-sexy tousled braids, buns and waves better than the rest of us. But short of going out to the desert with our own stylist (or going several days cultivating that ideal mix of dust, sweat and poolwater for the perfect braid), we didn’t know how to go about getting that look ourselves. Enter Charles Baker Strahan, celebrity stylist for Herbal Essences, who was able to give us advice on pulling the look off at home — no tents, jorts or EDM music required.

Julianne Hough Will Help Lead a Self-Esteem Day Camp For Girls

From being in the public eye, Julianne Hough has encountered her fair share of internet bullies and haters. But rather than let it get her down, Hough is using her experiences to build people up, as an ambassador for the Kind Campaign and a partner in its upcoming Kind Camp.

Started by Aaron Paul’s wife Lauren and her friend Molly Thompson, the Kind Campaign aims to end girl-on-girl bullying with the help of a documentary, Finding Kind, and school tours. Hough joined forces with the Kind Campaign team as an ambassador, and now will be a speaker addressing “media and self-esteem issues” at its first ever daylong camp. On Feb. 22, 160 girls from the L.A. area will gather to learn about such issues as relationships and self-care, and to then bring what they’ve learned back to their schools.

Hough’s role will be to “co-lead the breakout session on Media and Self Esteem … to open discussion about the negative effect tabloids and gossip can have on body image and confidence,” according to the Kind Camp website. She’ll be one of several high-profile women leading discussion groups on the tough subjects young girls deal with in school.

How great is this idea? Do you wish more celebs would get involved in initiatives like this? Let us know below!
