Jessica Chastain Recalls Her ‘Best Accessories’: Sean Penn and Brad Pitt!

For a star like Jessica Chastain, who only became a household name a year ago, adjusting to fame is still a bit difficult. “The red carpet takes a while to get used to,” she tells the New York Times’ T Magazine. “The photographers, the yelling aspect of it. But I get to wear something very beautiful.”

In fact, for her very first red carpet — the Cannes premiere of The Tree of Life (above) — she got to wear three beautiful things: a custom Zac Posen gown and what she calls “the best accessories — Sean Penn on one hand and Brad Pitt on the other.”

Though the Zac Posen gown is now safely tucked away — “I cleaned it and stored it for a daughter someday,” she shares — there have been dozens of equally gorgeous gowns since. In fact, the actress admits she built a closet in her garage to hold all of her new goods.

Life wasn’t always so full of fashion, though. “Growing up, a big expense was a fashion magazine,” she reveals. “I got $100 for clothes at the beginning of the year, and I had to be very careful about what pieces would last — I bought thrift and vintage.”

Who Are the Most Powerful Stylists in Hollywood?

Blake Lively may dress herself, but the rest of Hollywood’s hottest actresses rely on professional stylists to keep them looking stunning at all times. But who are these mysterious people behind the stars? The Hollywood Reporter unmasks several of them in their second annual “25 Most Powerful Stylists” list.

At number one is Kate Young, who dresses ever-chic A-listers like Michelle Williams, Natalie Portman and Rachel Weisz. The Oxford grad, who was born in New Jersey, was once an assistant to Vogue editrix Anna Wintour.

Next up is Leslie Fremar, the stylist behind leading ladies like Charlize Theron, Julianne Moore, Reese Witherspoon and most recently, Scarlett Johansson. “Leslie knows where she wants to go with something, and I like that specificity,” Theron tells the magazine. “She has a great eye, makes quick decisions, knows my body and what I like and has access to the best stuff.”

In third place is Petra Flannery (above), responsible for the trendy looks seen on young stars Emma Stone, Claire Danes, Zoë Saldana, Mila Kunis and Megan Fox. According to the mag, Flannery “likes to take risks, which boost her clients’ visibility from up-and-coming to have-arrived.”

Jessica Chastain Still in Awe of Her Designer Access

Last year marked Jessica Chastain’s transition from a supporting character to a full-fledged fashion star, but because life changed so quickly for the actress, she’s still a bit shocked by the perks that come with her newfound fame.

“I now have more access, which is amazing,” she recently said of her burgeoning relationships with designers. “I’ve always wanted to wear stuff like this, I’ve just never been given the access. That’s what has changed for me.”

Speaking to PEOPLE at the Vanity Fair/Juicy Couture Vanities 20th Anniversary Party at Siren Studios in L.A., the Oscar nominee admitted that there are still certain styles she shies away from. “I’m not a model, and everything looks better when you’re six feet tall and you’re gorgeous and rail thin,” she explained. “On the runway, everything looks better. I can’t do [some] outfits justice, so I will not go there.”

They haven’t won any Oscars yet, but Sunday’s best actress and best supporting actress nominees already have something special on their shelves thanks to Swarovski. The crystal company gifted each of the stars with VIP collector packages this week — pretty “A Day in the Life of Sparkle” kits (above) — to wish them luck this weekend.

Viola Davis, Meryl Streep, Octavia Spencer and Michelle Williams (plus the rest of the esteemed crew) received the stunning new “Star Collector” purse, adorned with 1,900 crystals; a set of ’60s-style earrings and bangles; Aura by Swarovski lipsticks in shades of coral and pink; and a small pocket mirror covered with 550 crystals. So even if these ladies lose out at the Oscars Sunday night, they won’t be coming home empty-handed.

A Red Carpet Report Card from Celebrity Stylist Sam Saboura

We know how we feel about stars’ red carpet looks, but how do the dresses, jewels, hair and makeup look through a stylist’s eyes? Sam Saboura, who’s dressed Michelle Williams, Natalie Portman and Sarah Jessica Parker, among others, thinks it’s been an “interesting” year so far, he tells PEOPLE.

“I was surprised to see such a lack of color at the Golden Globes,” he shares. “So many actresses jumped straight to pre-fall for their dresses — we weren’t even able to enjoy what was coming for spring 2012.” The SAG Awards were an improvement — “I was happy to see there were pops of bright color,” he shares — and Saboura predicts the Oscars will be even better.

“Coming off the spring 2012 couture shows, we’re seeing a lot of color in couture, a lot more volume, fuller skirts,” he says. “It’s so perfectly appropriate as we come into the Oscars.”

So that being said, who is the stylist most excited to see? Perhaps unsurprisingly, some of the newcomers.

Why Stars Are Gushing Over Marni for H&M

If the stars’ adoration for the new Marni for H&M collection is any indication, the pretty skirts, dresses and separates are going to sell out in no time. Gathering at the Sowden House in Los Feliz, Calif., over the weekend, several stylish celebrities sang the praises of the line, out March 8.

“I love that it’s accessible and affordable,” Drew Barrymore told reporters. “I mean, bottom line, I want to get a bag of clothes for the price of one garment. That’s what shopping is all about for me.”

Mila Jovovich, a friend of Marni designer Consuelo Castiglioni, said she’s “always respected” the brand. “Everyone loves Marni’s prints, everyone loves Marni’s cuts,” she said. “They really know how to bring the best out of a woman. It’s classic, beautifully shaped … it’s almost like rock ‘n’ roll Jackie O.”

Dianna Agron and Jessica Chastain were also on hand to fete the brand, as was Freida Pinto, who might make her way to her local H&M come March 8. “I wouldn’t go out always and buy a designer dress,” she told reporters. “But I do shop at H&M, so it’s nice for me to know that I can have an H&M Marni, and not just a Marni — which would burn a hole in my pocket!” Check out the entire Marni for H&M lookbook on the Huffington Post.
