We first got a sneak peek of Hilary Duff’s Femme for DKNY Jeans line when Gossip Girl co-star Jessica Szohr turned up at a Louis Vuitton party sporting a $59 floral cardigan from the collection, and now, the ads are out. Hilary stars alongside models Sophie Srej and Gracie Carvalho in a New York City street-inspired ad campaign. Combining Hilary’s personal style and the individuality of New Yorkers — the inspiration behind her designs — the Femme for DKNY Jeans fall ‘09 ads were shot on the Manhattan streets by Scott Schuman, best known for his street style blog The Sartorialist. With Hilary joining the cast of Gossip Girl this fall, we couldn’t think of a better theme than the gritty and glam streets of New York for her latest design venture. Hilary Duff has come a long way from her Disney princess days. Not only is the former child star gearing up to play the lead in a remake of the classic outlaw flick Bonnie and Clyde, she’s also getting ready to release the downtown cool clothing line that we told you about back in February. And at an AIDS charity event this week, Hilary chatted about her new ventures, including her collection with DKNY Jeans. The actress admits to Nylon that Femme for DKNY Jeans is “kind of a selfish line, because it’s skinny jeans, which look the best on me.” She also included fun personal touches like multiple-size belt loops. “Sometimes I want to wear a skinny little belt wrapped around a million times, or sometimes I want to wear a really fat one that won’t ever stay in place, slung low. So it just has a lot of options,” she explains. And while Hilary was sure to include her style favorites, her design wheels started spinning with inspiration from “normal girls.” “I’ll be walking down the street and think, oh she looks cute!” Hilary says. “Especially being in New York because everyone has such unique styles. They’re not just for like stick thin people,” said Leona Lewis.  Taraji P. Henson summed up the vast appeal by tellling PEOPLE.com, “The best way I can put it is that it’s like a Spanx in a dress.  You don’t have to wear Spanx (because) it sucks you up and holds you in in all the right places.  That’s the perfect dress!” For Bush, Herve Leger also evoked nostalgic feelings, “I think the first time I ever wore Herve to an event was the Teen Choice Awards a couple years ago.  I was in this amazing dress and it was a great night for me. Move over Rachel Bilson, DKNY Jeans is gearing up to turn another celebrity into a design star. Hilary Duff has just announced that she’s partnering with the label to co-create a collection of rocker-chic pieces for the Femme for DKNY Jeans collection. And the partnership was a natural choice for Hilary, who made sure she was picking the right partner. “I took time finding the right fashion house to collaborate with in a design partnership,” she says. “I have always adored and worn DKNY jeans, so it made perfect sense to reach out to them. We hit it off immediately, sharing a design vision offering something special for young women like me.” And what do women like Hilary want? Versatility, for one thing. Duff plans to fill the collection with multi-functional garments, including tunics with removable cowl scarves and skinny jeans with loops that adjust between thin and wide belts. The multi-platinum star is also making sure the collection reflects her signature style by balancing feminine details like poppies and sequins with tougher elements like vinyl, motorcycle details and menswear fabrics. What Hollywood fashionista doesn’t love an excuse to indulge in shoes? And at last week’s Rodeo Drive Walk of Style Award event honoring Manolo Blahnik, everyone from Lucy Liu to Hilary Duff, January Jones and Nicky Hilton had their best excuse yet. Liu, who presented Blahnik with the award, wore his chic and strappy sandals. “These shoes are incredibly comfortable,” she told PEOPLE. “They’re slip-ons first of all, and they’re incredibly elegant. I love the idea of detail that he puts into his shoes — and they’re super comfortable.” As for how many pairs of Manolos Liu owns, “You literally cannot count!” she laughs. As guests milled around, drinking mojitos and looking at the iconic designs displayed in Lucite boxes, Hilton dished about what she thinks makes the designer’s shoes so popular. “You just feel good in them,” she said. “They’re so fun and they’re all so different. – PAULA ABDUL, scouting out the Sunset Plaza Tent Sale in Los Angeles with her restaurateur beau J.T. TORREGIANI. The Hey Paula star tried on some clothes, without even taking off the outfit she was originally wearing. Instead, she just slipped the items on over her clothes. She left with items from Leona, Just Cavalli and Nicole Miller. And her shopping went to a good cause: Some proceeds were donated to the Los Angeles Fireman’s Relief Association.
