Her recent engagement is already old news, but Drew Barrymore is still aglow, especially when talking about fiancé Will Kopelman.

“I didn’t want to go to this little party, and my friend dragged me there and I met him,” the Big Miracle star tells Anderson Cooper on Friday’s Anderson. Though their initial meeting was several years ago, it wasn’t until 2011 that “things got serious.”

Now, after what Barrymore calls a romantic proposal, the two are in the midst of wedding planning — and all the fun that comes with it. “The thing that I think we’re the most excited about is … this will be such a nice year to do wonderful things together,” she says. “We like to spend time with our friends anyway, so on the auspices of this kind of a celebration, even more heightened and wonderful. What a great adventure.”

Drew Barrymore’s Engagement Ring: All the Details!

Considering Drew Barrymore‘s new fiancé Will Kopelman is an art consultant, it’s no surprise that the actress’ brand-new engagement ring is truly, well, a work of art.

The ring features a colorless radiant-cut diamond — which weighs in at just under 4 carats — situated on a diamond-covered band. The stunning sparkler was designed by Graff Diamonds, though “[Kopelman] picked it out,” a source tells PEOPLE.

Kopelman and Barrymore have been linked romantically since February of last year. The couple got engaged in Sun Valley, Idaho, while vacationing over the holidays.

This will be the third walk down the aisle for Barrymore, who was married to Tom Green in 2001 and to Jeremy Thomas briefly in 1994. Tell us: What do you think of Barrymore’s ring?

Drew Barrymore Changes Her Hair Color — Again!

Bye bye, red — hello again, ombré! Drew Barrymore appears to be back on the two-tone hair wagon again after dying her hair red in April. The actress — who hasn’t been out in a while — joined pals Cameron Diaz and Kate Hudson (plus Reese Witherspoon) at the LACMA Art + Film Gala Honoring Clint Eastwood in L.A. on Saturday, debuting her new (and also short) do at the event.

In April, Barrymore’s colorist Tracey Cunningham told PEOPLE that the actress prefers to keep her look fresh. “We like to try new things when the seasons change,” she added. Since the auburn was “the perfect spring red shade,” Cunningham said, it’s possible Barrymore’s short dark-to-light is what’s hot again for fall. Not that it matters for the star; as Cunningham said, “Drew is a color chameleon! Her skin is so pretty that any hair color will complement her eyes.”

For her first foray world of music video direction with Best Coast, one of her favorite bands, Drew Barrymore had one singular vision: “How do we make the most killer video?”

Drawing her inspiration from movies — “I love The Outsiders, The Warriors and West Side Story,” she shares — Barrymore confesses to PEOPLE that her preparations for a the video were exhaustive. “Ugh. I’m Tracy Flick to the nines,” she admits, referring to Reese Witherspoon’s iconic Type-A nerd in Election.

Not so nerdy? Her cast. Barrymore, a veteran child actor herself, assembled a veritable who’s who of up and comers including Kick-Ass‘s Chloe Moretz, Teen Wolf‘s Tyler Posey, Community‘s Donald Glover, The Secret Life of the American Teenager‘s Shailene Woodley and Alia Shawkat, the “muse” from her feature directorial debut, Whip It. She included Miranda Cosgrove as well, hoping to make a departure from the actress’s sweet iCarly look. “I really wanted to change up her look — the makeup, the clothing and the attitude,” Barrymore says. “She was willing to play.”

Drew Barrymore Channels Old Hollywood in Neiman Marcus’s Fall Campaign

Sitting atop a smoking car, her bright red hair fanned out behind her, Drew Barrymore makes quite an impact as the face of Neiman Marcus‘s “The Art of Fashion” campaign. The actress poses in a series of photos for the retailer, modeling looks from designers like Akris and Valentino in ads that will appear in the September issues of Vogue, Vanity Fair and W. “The shoot tells the story of a star’s transformation,” Eddie Nunns, vice president of Neiman Marcus brand creative, tells WWD. “We felt that Drew Barrymore possessed not only the pedigree and glamour of old Hollywood, but also the confidence and spirit of the modern-day woman — much like Neiman Marcus itself,” he adds in a statement. Shot by Norman Jean Roy, this is just the second Art of Fashion campaign to feature a celebrity; Jennifer Jason Leigh served as the face for the inaugural promotion in 1994. According to Nunns, Barrymore was quite involved with the operation, right down to the hair styling. “She’s a powerful, modern woman with trans-generational appeal,” he says. “The project … beautifully captures the essence of Neiman Marcus’s edits of the fall collections.” –Kate Hogan

With the intense heat and sizzling sunshine, we can’t even fathom summer’s end just yet. There are still trips to take, frozen treats to eat and shoes to buy! But with Labor Day creeping up ever so quickly, thoughts begin to turn toward cooler weather and fall fashion. When stocking up on styles for your post-summer wardrobe, do you consider white? Though it was once considered taboo to go so light anytime between Labor Day and Memorial Day (or in some cases, perhaps Easter), stars and civilians alike have defied the trend in recent years. Drew Barrymore, Cameron Diaz and Blake Lively all stepped out in white in April, and not one fashionista blinked an eye. So why not rock white pants at a fall fête, don a snowy dress to a winter bash or warm up in a stark white sweater? Though it may still feel like breaking the rules, weren’t rules meant to be broken? Tell us: Do you wear white after Labor Day?
