Could we love Diane Kruger any more? In the behind-the-scenes video above, the latest face of L’Oréal Paris parades around in a sleek black blazer and fedora while confidently showing off her flawless skin and bright red lips. “If you have a photographer who makes beautiful light, it makes you feel good,” she says in the clip. A true actress, she also talks about how she applies an emotion to each and every look. “We started out with a very ethereal look, so it’s more of a serene mood, I guess,” she explains. “It’s really nice to see what works and what doesn’t work.” –Kim Peiffer

With the royal wedding days away, white dresses are on everybody’s minds — none more so than the starlets who have stepped out in the wildly popular minidresses from Dolce & Gabbana’s Spring 2011 fashion show. The collection was actually modeled on a bride’s hope chest, the designers said at September’s show in Milan; this was evident in the pure hue and delicate lacy details on the dresses, which have become white-hot in Hollywood. Though each dress recalls the other, the starlets put their own spin on them, from Kate Bosworth‘s military jacket and pointy-toe boots, to Anne Hathaway‘s killer platforms and side-swept locks, to Blake Lively‘s chic two-tone cardigan and suede booties. Diane Kruger and LeAnn Rimes let the dress (and their killer legs) shine, adding only simple shoes and sweeping their hair up. Not that we had any doubts about former model Diane Kruger’s affinity for fashion, but the star is revealing that shopping is way more than just a hobby. “I truly, genuinely like clothes,” the cover girl tells Glamour magazine. “Making them is an art form, and wearing them is a form of self-expression. I find it very emotional because I can remember moments in my life — my mood, how I felt — through these clothes.” But you won’t find Kruger making impulse purchases — most of them are planned well in advance. “The biggest fashion purchase I ever made I thought about for six years,” she says. “I’m not kidding. All my life I wanted to own an Hermès Constance bag, and when I signed with Calvin Klein, I decided this was the time that I could afford it. I truly broke a sweat when I paid for it.”–Kim Peiffer

Just barely 48 hours after Karl Lagerfeld showed Chanel’s spring/summer 2011 Haute Couture collection in Paris, the actress attended the Sidaction Charity Gala in a tiered, pink confection fresh off the catwalk. Replacing the look’s demure flats with towering peep toes, Kruger, a former model herself, rivaled Snejana Onopka’s statuesque presence in the off-the shoulder design. Over the holidays, RiRi experimented with her feline side (and may have scored some cat calls) while home in Barbados. But she wasn’t the only one on the prowl for the cat swimsuit trend. Diane Kruger sported the same We Are Handsome panther-themed bathing suit while walking on the beach in Mexico with boyfriend Joshua Jackson (not pictured) on Jan. 10. Diane Kruger’s adventurous approach to beauty has inspired more than a few winning looks, both on and off the red carpet. Diane Kruger knows what she does–and doesn’t!–like. Despite some serious red-carpet moxie, the star has perfected the art of never taking style over the top. “I never let clothes wear me,” she tells PEOPLE, explaining, “Above all, I dislike vulgarity. Being sexy is all good, but there is such a thing as too much.” And whether she’s dressed to the nines in angelic white Calvin Klein or airport chic in denim, the former runway queen admits to playing by her own rules when it comes to fashion and beauty. “I love to do my own make-up for red carpet events,” she says. “I find that less is more in terms of foundation, etcetera for me. And who knows my face better than me?” Though she admittedly owns “an embarrassing amount of make-up,” skincare in her first priority—even in the face of calamity. “The only things I would take with me to a desert island are sun block and hope for the best.” We’re pretty sure that even then, she’d look flawless. Diane Kruger has a flawless face to match her courage with couture–but don’t expect the former model to be stingy with her beauty secrets. When it comes to making her gaze even more striking, Kruger knows where to turn. “Strong brows give me character. I’m loving Laura Mercier’s brow kit right now,” she tells InStyle.co.uk. She puts keeping her skin flawless down to L’Oreal Paris’s affordable Triple Active Day: “This moisturizer is really light, but keeps my skin hydrated. I use it when I’m working,” she says. As for the aroma that keeps her smelling sweet? It’s Calvin Klein’s Beauty Eau de Parfum , of course. Lately, Hollywood beauties seem to have a case of the migrating chignon. At some point, the neat, low-slung ballet bun gave way to a messier topknot, which, in turn, evolved into a loose twist just above the forehead. A-listers Diane Kruger and Marion Cotillard both showed off the look during the high-glamour 2010 Cannes Film Festival, demonstrating just how this vaguely rockabilly style can telegraph red carpet polish. Calvin Klein has a history of launching some of the world’s most provocative ads, from Brooke Shields’s career-making coos in the ’70s to the more recent steamy underwear ads starring Twilight hunk Kellan Lutz, but their newest fragrance campaign with Diane Kruger marks a distinct departure from the sex-sells credo. “Certainly sex is in our DNA, but this fragrance speaks to a different audience,” the label’s creative director Francisco Costa tells WWD of the print ad shot by photographer Craig McDean in Berlin. “It is…elegant, sophisticated, timeless and beautiful — and designed to appeal to a more mature customer. This is a woman in her 40s, who is self-assured and secure.” The campaign’s star knew that she’d be involved in something different from the campaign’s inception. “They showed me the concept, and it was classy. So I knew from the beginning that I didn’t have to take my clothes off,” she explains. The fragrance, which will feature notes of ambrette seeds, jasmine and cedarwood will starting at $50 for a 1-oz. eau de parfum, will launch in fall 2010. The Inglourious Basterds star–and long-time girlfriend of Fringe actor Joshua Jackson–will star in a series of print and television spots that will be seen around the world. The fragrance’s notes still remain a mystery–and you’ll have a summer-long wait to get a first-person sniff of the scent, which launches in fall 2010. WWD asked several star-favorite designers, including Thakoon Panichgul, Behnaz Sarafpour and Stacey Bendet of Alice + Olivia, what their 2010 goals were. Thakoon, whose celebrity fans include First Lady Michelle Obama and Diane Kruger, is expanding his cultural horizons by attempting to learn Japanese. For Alice + Olivia’s Stacey Bendet 2010′s goal will be “to get my driver’s license so I can get a pink Smart car.” Meanwhile, Behnaz Sarafpour, whose famous clients include Claire Danes and Rachel McAdams, admits that even though she should be going to the gym, she knows “that just won’t happen, I am aiming for something more realistic and will try to become more of a morning person.” We know exactly how that feels! Beyoncé Knowles, Penélope Cruz and Freida Pinto are about to be in even more gorgeous company at L’Oréal. The beauty brand confirms to PEOPLE that actress Diane Kruger will be their next worldwide spokesperson. “It’s a great honor,” Diane says of her new role in a statement. “I admire the brand, not only for the quality and innovation of its products, but also because it represents diversity and excellence across the world, values which are very close to my heart.” And while it has yet to be decided if the star will represent the brand in the U.S., her background leaves her well prepared for the job: before acting in films such as Troy and Inglorious Basterds, the German-born beauty got her start as a model. Dark eye shadow and bold lips are the biggest trends of the upcoming fall season, but the classic oft-repeated rule of makeup artists is to choose either a strong eye or lip but never, ever both at once. But the ever-fashionable Diane Kruger defied this cosmetic commandment by pairing a dark matte lipstick with a dramatic smoky eye for the Inglourious Basterds premiere in Berlin and looked pretty darn amazing. But, like many of Diane’s looks, this may be one better left to stylish former-models. We want to know: What do you think about the combination? Being in front movie cameras isn’t exactly new to iconic designer Valentino — he did have a cameo in The Devil Wears Prada, after all — but with a new documentary that’s all about him, the taste-maker is now the star of the show. And at last night’s premiere of Valentino: The Last Emperor at Venice’s Teatro La Fenice, his roster of superstar fans, including Diane Kruger, Elizabeth Hurley, Claire Danes and Natalia Vodianova, all turned out. Kruger, wearing a beige Valentino gown the designer had chosen especially for her, told PEOPLE: “I found it really emotional to see. You know, he’s one of the last greats.” And supermodel Vodianova was equally impressed: “I thought the film was so funny — Valentino’s really like that. He didn’t act different for the cameras.” As for the man himself, Valentino told PEOPLE, a bit ruefully, “I said a few things maybe I shouldn’t have said, but I’m happy.” And he certainly looked it at the premiere’s after-party at the Peggy Guggenheim museum, holding court on a candlelit rooftop terrace surrounded by VIP guests like Charlize Theron, Tilda Swinton and model Eva Herzigova who declared the night a success, telling us, “Valentino throws a great party.” –Reporting by Courtney Rubin

What could be more chic than a glamorous lunch at the Seinfelds’ estate in Long Island? Toss in stars, charity and shopping for coveted purses, and the answer is not much! Jessica Seinfeld, wife of Jerry, hosted the chic luncheon under a cream-colored canvas tent on their sprawling lawn with Derek Lam, the Creative Director at Tod’s, the luxury accessories and clothing company. High-wattage guests — including Gwyneth Paltrow, Diane Kruger, Kelly Ripa and Alexandra Wentworth — dined on grilled shrimp and Maine lobster salad — then shopped in the Seinfelds’ 200-year-old barn for boots, coats and bags from the Tod’s fall collection, with a portion of the proceeds from the guests’ purchases going to Baby Buggy, a non-profit organization dedicated to providing New York City’s families in need with essential equipment, clothing, and products for their infants and young children. Kruger and Paltrow bought black cashmere trench coats, while Ripa put in an order for a “Pashmy” baby bag (which new mommies Nicole Kidman, Jennifer Lopez and Jessica Alba also want for their little ones). Paltrow says she is more than happy to give Baby Buggy all the baby items her children outgrow. “We give Baby Buggy all our stuff,” she told PEOPLE, “Strollers, car seats, clothes, toys.” So some unsuspecting tot is riding around in Gwyneth Paltrow’s carseat? “Well,” she laughed. “Not my carseat. Apple’s carseat!”

Last night’s YSL-sponsored Metropolitan Opera opening gala looked more like a couture fashion show than an opera, with stars like Diane Kruger, Eva Mendes, Leighton Meester, Emmy Rossum and Ginnifer Goodwin each in hand-picked Yves Saint Laurent. Diane Kruger’s hot pink dress was custom-designed just for the event. And she accessorized with her date — and long-time boyfriend — Dawson’s Creek alum Joshua Jackson, who joked to PEOPLE, “In general, I’m not very glamorous. Tonight, I feel extremely high-glam.
