3 Trends Spotted at the Met Gala: Spikes, Gloves & Punktastic Hair Color

May/07/2013 at 09:00 AM ET

After you’ve clicked through all the amazing (we use that word in a good and bad way) looks stars wore to the annual Met Ball, scroll down to see the punk-ish style themes that kept popping up on the red carpet.

SPIKES: There was perhaps no trend more ubiquitous than these bad boys. Jessica Alba (carrying a Christian Louboutin clutch) and Cameron Diaz (in a golden belt) looked ready to skewer vegetables for a barbecue, while Cara Delevingne reminds us of a sexy porcupine in her sharply studded Burberry gown.

GLOVES: Unlike those spikes, we never could have predicted the presence of these ladylike accessories at Fashion Prom for Punks. But Kerry Washington and Beyoncé wore them with their gowns. And then there was Kim Kardashian, who wore gloves attached to her dress and in the same print.

PUNK HAIR COLOR: Lily Collins (rocking blue streaks), Diane Kruger (who dip-dyed her ponytail pink) and Alicia Keys (with red highlights) are giving us flashbacks to the Manic Panic-fueled days of middle school. Wonder if any of them, including Kerry Washington with her purple-ish mane, will keep the color after the Ball has ended.

Which of these trends would you consider trying?

Saturday night: It’s time to give your LBDs a rest ladies! (Yes, we really just said that). Take a cue from Kristin Cavallari and switch it up in this springy dress that’s perfect for a GNO, first date or wherever Saturday evening takes you. Kristin’s Aztec-print frock is almost a perfect match to this Dorothy Perkins midi (it’s a steal at $35). On the footwear front, go for Kristen’s strappy Lotteria sandals by Chinese Laundry (from her new collection!).

From Date Night to Easter Brunch: Exactly What to Wear This Weekend

Mar/29/2013 at 04:30 PM ET

The weekend is almost here, and we couldn’t be more excited. Why, you ask? Because we’ve got three great outfits planned: a simply sexy look for Saturday night, a pretty and prim skirt suit for Easter brunch with the grandparents and a Monday morning work outfit that will put you on the top of the promotion list.

Saturday night: Here’s what we really love about Khloé Kardashian‘s outfit: You can put this together with zero thought and still make maximum impact. The secret? It’s all in the shoes. Toss on a V-neck tee and your favorite black jeans, then slip on the highest, sexiest heels in your closet (and if you need a pair, this gorgeous Michael Michael Kors style is on sale for $100). All you have to do next is brace for the stares you’ll get strutting by.

One Final Word on Oscars Fashion, from Tabatha Coffey

Feb/27/2013 at 10:30 AM ET

We all know Tabatha Coffey, Bravo’s sharp-tongued Aussie style pro, from her stint on Shear Genius and her latest hit, Tabatha Takes Over. And now, she’s bringing her talents online, joining us at PEOPLE StyleWatch once weekly to dish on some of the best – and worst – celebrity looks of the week. Keep in mind the opinions below belong solely to the stylist … though she’s probably saying what lots of you are thinking, anyway!

Today, in a special Oscars edition of her blog, she takes on Diane Kruger, who wore a Giambattista Valli mini to the Vanity Fair after-party:

Ummmm Diane, were you running late to the Vanity Fair after-party by chance? Did you get caught in traffic or spend too much time in hair and makeup?

The only reason I ask is because it appears as though you left your final dress fitting in a bit of a rush. You look like you have an entire bolt of fabric hanging off your backside. The Giambattista Valli mini and Louboutin pumps are a nice combo, but that’s just far too much fabric for my liking. It makes you look like you’re leaning to one side and quite uncomfortable. It also appears as though you’re wearing 101 Dalmatians.

On a positive note, I do love the simple and chic hairstyling. Your bold middle part and California-cool hair color is quite flattering for your face shape and complexion. Makeup palette is kept simple and the defined dark eye is perfect for a sultry after-party occasion.

From Date Night to Super Bowl Party: Weekend Wardrobe Inspiration

Feb/01/2013 at 04:30 PM ET

We’ve got your weekend wardrobe worries solved: We found a sexy outfit for Saturday night, along with a super-cute Sunday Super Bowl bash look. And if the unlimited nachos and beer makes you unwilling to rise and shine Monday morning, we’ve got you covered with a fashion-forward (but really easy) office ensemble.

Keri RussellAndrew Toth/Startraks

Saturday night: Who knew that we’d still be taking outfit inspiration from Felicity 15 years later? Keri Russell straddles the line of chic and hot with one effortlessly sexy look. She balances her leather leggings (we love this vegan pair) with a structured white tank (like this $29 one from Urban Outfitters), plus tousled waves, a pretty pink lip and bombshell stilettos (similar to this $69 Nine West pair).

Red Carpet Trend Report: The Scoop on Cutouts, Peplum & Granny Panties

Nov/15/2012 at 05:30 PM ET

Whether you’re heading to your high school reunion next week or just going out with your hometown crew, here are two hot trends that’ll up your cool-girl style game. But something we don’t encourage wearing anywhere? Granny panties under a sheer skirt. If you think we’re joking, keep reading …

Down: Flashing your granny panties: We thought this trend was over two months ago, but two stars won’t let it die. Kristen Stewart and Krysten Ritter practically mooned us on the red carpet in sheer dresses that showed off some seriously unattractive undergarments. Ladies, the lining in your designer gowns is there for a reason.

Up: Peplum party outfits: Along with sparkle and shine, expect to spot a lot of festive peplum-accented looks during the holidays. Kicking off the trend was Emma Stone, who looked incredible in a navy peplum top paired with a glittery emerald-green skirt (both by Burberry), and Dakota Fanning, who chose a salmon-pink floral above-the-knee design.
