Who Was Your Best Dressed at the Oscars?

Steve Granitz/WireImage

We wait for the Academy Awards patiently every year, dying to see what catwalk confections our favorite stars will wear. And this year, our patience was amply rewarded with gorgeous gowns, sparkling jewels and perfect updos. Ruffles ruled from Demi Moore‘s Atelier Versace to Jennifer Lopez‘s Armani Prive to Vera Farmiga’s Marchesa. And forget about black — it was all about golds like Cameron Diaz‘s Oscar de la Renta and Sandra Bullock‘s Marchesa and blues like Maggie Gyllenhaal‘s Dries van Noten. As for hair, it was the year of the bun, perched perfectly on the glam heads of Sarah Jessica Parker, Nicole Richie and Miley Cyrus. Check out our picks for Best Dressed and then tell us: Who was your favorite at the Oscars?

Demi Moore Picks Her Premiere Look Right Off the Runway

J. Graylock/JPI

One of the perks of being an A-list celebrity like Demi Moore is getting first dibs on any fashion show look as it comes off the runway. At Donna Karan’s show in New York City on Monday, we caught up with the star backstage, who gushed, “I love it!” and said that the clothes were “full of elegance, wit, lovely feminine details—[and] still with the signature luxury and the texture of the fabrics.” Pondering which of the looks she’d most love to wear, Moore dismissed a striking white ruffled blouse because, “I’m not tall enough. Brooke [Shields] could wear that!” referring to her front row companion at the show. Last night, at the Cinema Society screening of Happy Tears, sponsored by Donna Karan, Moore debuted her pick: a beautifully shaped coat, patent leather necklaces, fitted blouse, skirt, and heeled boots that had been one of the openers of Karan’s show. At the event, Moore told PEOPLE, “I knew right away. I needed to go back and check to be 100 percent sure, but I was pretty confident that this was [it].” Explaining her choice, the actress said, “What I loved was that it was very simple. It will probably need to make a run through some editorial, and hopefully it will make its way back to me.“ And what does the designer think of Moore’s selection? “One thing about Demi. I’d have her design the collection, she’s so good,” Karan says. “Demi is sharp. She knew exactly what she wanted. She put it on, and she fit into it. Last night, she says, ‘That’s what I want.’ But I said, ‘I’ve got to make it shorter,’ and she said, ‘No.’ I can’t believe it it fits so perfectly. That’s what I call flexible clothing.” –reporting by Jeffrey Slonim

Roland Mouret Dishes on How Beyoncé Convinced Him To Show More Leg

Jackson Lee/Splash News Online

Not even a fashion heavyweight like Roland Mouret is impervious to the sartorial whims of a star like Beyoncé. Upon the songstress’ request, the Frenchman recently strayed from his signature body-skimming calf-length dresses and launched a rainbow-themed collection for net-a-porter.com with much more abbreviated hems. The designer, who also counts Victoria Beckham, Heidi Klum, and Demi Moore as fans, took time out to exclusively share his motivation for the shorter frocks with fabsugar.com: “In a funny way, the first one that did that for me was Beyoncé, this season where my length was mid-calf. She asked to raise the hem. I said, ‘you really inspire me, because it’s nice to see that kind of attitude.’” Though he admits the longer dresses were made for women who “don’t want to show the legs because they don’t like the leg,” the new series gives girls like Beyoncé plenty of opportunity to flash their well-toned gams. Demi Moore Talks Aging and Being the “Puma” Poster Girl

Mert Alas and Marcus Piggott/W Magazine

In the December issue of W magazine, the seemingly ageless Demi Moore, 47, talks about everything from being labeled a “cougar” for her relationship with Ashton Kutcher, 31, to aging in Hollywood. The former box office star, who stars in two upcoming indie films “Happy Tears” and “The Joneses” — and is also the face of the new Helena Rubinstein women’s fragrance “All You’ve Ever Wanted,” — says getting older has affected her acting career. “The frustrating part is that the type of roles I’d be interested in are not really coming to me,” says Moore, whose buff physique helped her attain roles like “G.I. Jane” and “Striptease.” “I hate to say it’s a function of my age—but yes, I think in some ways it is. The majority of [female] roles are geared between 25 and 35.” And about her “cougar” title, Moore prefers “puma.” “I’m certainly not the first person to be in a relationship with a younger man, but somehow I was plucked out as a bit of a poster girl,” says Moore, who first met Kutcher six and a half years ago. “I don’t know why that is. But I just kind of step back sometimes and say, ‘There is some reason, and what is it that I have to share in a positive way?” See more photos and the full interview with Demi at wmagazine.com. —Kristin Larson
