She had the fashion world buzzing when she wore an elaborate Givenchy Haute Couture gown to the Academy Awards, and now, actress Cate Blanchett continues her style streak with a specially designed Giorgio Armani wardrobe in her new film, Hanna. In the thriller, Blanchett plays Marissa Wiegler, a woman on a mission to catch a 16-year-old assassin, so director Joe Wright wanted her to look like the “wicked witch” of the story, with red hair and green attire, according to Hanna costume designer Lucie Bates. To illustrate that persona, Armani hand selected silhouettes, which included sharply tailored suits and a striking green cashmere overcoat. “Working with Cate Blanchett, on and off the screen, has always been a highlight for me,” Armani said in a release. “She embodies the perfect combination of consummate actor and world-class fashion icon.” Armani was not only a perfect fit for his front row fan, but it’s hardly the first time the legendary designer has dressed actors on screen: he suited up Richard Gere in American Gigolo, helped Katie Holmes in The Kennedys and lent his fashionable hand to Ocean’s Thirteen and The Dark Knight. When Cate Blanchett lit up the Riviera red carpet on the first night of the Cannes Film Festival, she did more than help promote her new movie Robin Hood. The Aussie Oscar-winner wore an Alexander McQueen dress in her own special mark of appreciation of the late fashion designer, who died on February 11. is from the Pre-Fall 2010 collection and was picked out by McQueen specially for the actress. “The dress had been selected and personally chosen by Mr. McQueen and his team for Ms. Blanchett,” a spokeswoman tells PEOPLE. “It was specifically tailored for Ms. Blanchett.” Her movie, in which she gets to shoot arrows in custom-made Roger Vivier riding boots as Lady Marion, was picked as the big name opener for the festival on the French south coast. Forget about boots made for walking—these were made for intense trampling, mud-stomping and sword fighting. For Cate Blanchett‘s latest role as the feisty Maid Marion in the latest adaptation of the new action flick Robin Hood, the actress specifically requested Bruno Frisoni—artistic director of French luxury good house Roger Vivier—to custom-create one-of-a-kind boots. “I knew his design would be striking, but what arrived surpassed my expectations. The boots where sleek, sexy and helped give Marion that contemporary edge that Janty and I were searching for,” Blanchett says in a release. “I didn’t want to take them off. I was slightly freaked out by the amount of mud that I had to wade through as I didn’t want to get these gorgeous boots dirty.” The excitement was mutual for Frisoni, who says he began sketching the boots while still on the phone with the actress. “I admire her modernity, which is fragile and strong at the same time,” he says. “I wanted to create some boots that were both feminine and masculine. Sexy seduction on a horse!” To watch Blanchett work the thigh-high boots in the action movie co-starring Russell Crowe, head to theaters nationwide on May 14 when Robin Hood debuts. –David Yi

At 40, Cate Blanchett remains one of the most luminous, fresh-faced actresses out there, so we were particularly intrigued to learn about the beauty secrets she spilled to stylelist.com. Unsurprisingly, Blanchett is devoted to SK-II, the skincare line for which she serves as a spokesperson, but actually started using long before signing on, when she was pregnant with her first child and “became really dehydrated and started getting some discoloration.” A friend recommended the SK-II Facial Treatment Essence, which Blanchett now claims to love so much she’d “drink if she could.” The working mom also says her favorite movie look was in Life Aquatic because, “I was quite tanned, which is really unusual for me. Chanel makeup artist Lucienne Zammit kept Cate’s face “dewy and fresh” — in contrast to her dark dress — using Stila Perfecting Foundation in A, $30, Laura Mercier Secret Concealer in #1, $22, and LORAC Translucent Touch Up Powder in TL 1, $32. Chanel Powder Blush in Rose Petale, $40, and Chanel Rouge Allure lipstick in Darling, $30, enhanced Cate’s natural radiance. Zammit then brought out her blue eyes with Chanel shimmery Quadra Eye Shadows in Demure and Dunes, $55. She applied light peach shadow in the inner eye corners, rosy gold and frosted pink in the center of the eyelids, and brown in the outer corners. To relax the glitz of Cate’s dress, Matrix stylist Mark Townsend went for a “fun and sexy” style rather than an updo. He started a day early, creating texture with Amplify Foam Volumizer, $18, and a blow-out. The next morning, he sprayed Biolage colorcaretherapie Shielding Shine Mist, $15, and scrunched Cate’s hair all over. Before using a 1″ curling iron, he spritzed hair with Vavoom Gold Heat Iron-in Volume Protective Dry Mist, $14, and then curled sections from end to root, clipping each curl to set while her makeup was applied. Later, he removed the clips and raked his hands (again sprayed with the Shine Mist) through her hair. Using a natural-bristle eyebrow brush sprayed with hairspray, he tamed flyaways on top and created loose texture at the bottom.

You’d hardly expect to see Cate Blanchett ditch her edgy wardrobe for jumpers and elastic-waist pants while pregnant, and the Elizabeth: The Golden Age star is definitely not disappointing. While promoting the film in Australia this week, the star turned up in a beaded colorblock Dries van Noten dress and riding boots to a photocall and was vivid at a premiere in a hot pink and orange Jil Sander dress. The star tells AP that wearing their signature Facial Treatment Mask is part of her skin care ritual. “[Her children] see it and just roll their eyes,” said the Oscar-winning actress, speaking from Rome. “They’ll wake up in the morning, and I’m making their sandwiches for school and I’ve got the mask on.” She even gave some of the masks to The Curious Case of Benjamin Button co-star Brad Pitt. “I’m evangelical about it,” Blanchett tells AP. While the venue for the Armani Prive Haute Couture Autumn/Winter show, the Palais de Chaillot overlooking the Eiffel Tower, is stunning and busy outside, inside the scene is slightly more serene. Anne Hathaway takes to her seat looking like a princess in a silver satin bubble hem dress under a chic white trench-coat while Cate Blanchett is the last to arrive looking every bit the Hollywood star in a high neck black dress and towering patent heels. “It’s timeless, it’s classic — and I’m really excited about the few little whispers I’ve heard about this,” she tells PEOPLE as numerous bodyguards usher her in so the show can began. A whirlwind display of voluminous skirts in metallic shades, structured satin dresses and the finale diamante-encrusted ball gown leave some so in awe they burst into applause during the show. As celebs are led backstage to greet the designer post-show, stylist Rachel Zoe stops to tell me her pick of the couture candy: “My favorite would be the feather coat. It was brown with a million little feathers, and it was like a coat dress kind of thing, it was beautiful.” As Mr Armani leaves with a wave and a smile for the cameras, everyone inside continues to celebrate in his glory, with champagne and Italian canapes, of course.

Nice to know that new dad Brad Pitt’s not too macho to share his Kenra hair products with female co-star Cate Blanchett. While shooting The Curious Case of Benjamin Buttons, “Brad loved the Platinum Silkening Mist, $12″ says the movie’s hairstylist Colleen Balaghan, who used the same product on his bewigged co-star (Cate is a redhead in the film). “I also used the Kenra Daily Provision Leave-In Conditioner, $9, on both Cate and Brad. Is Cate Blanchett the victim of some fashion foul play? The actress was set to carry a $100,000 Lana Marks purse on the red carpet, but the bag mysteriously went missing from her hotel room the day before the Oscars. While the New York Daily News is speculating that it could be the result of a secret plot, a Lana Marks Company spokesperson had no comment on the circumstances. The handbag was produced in black alligator and framed in 18-kt gold with white diamonds and 35 carats of pavé black diamonds. “We are devastated by the loss of this handbag and request that anyone who has information regarding its whereabouts please step forward and contact the Los Angeles Police Department,” the rep tells PEOPLE. (We’ll let you make your own fashion police joke now.)
