Star-Favorite Designers Share Their New Year’s Resolutions

Jan/01/2010 at 09:00 AM ET

Neil Rasmus/Sipa

The life of a fashion designer might consist of glamorous parties and famous friends, but if their New Year’s resolutions are any indication, some style stars are just like us! WWD asked several star-favorite designers, including Thakoon Panichgul, Behnaz Sarafpour and Stacey Bendet of Alice + Olivia, what their 2010 goals were. Thakoon, whose celebrity fans include First Lady Michelle Obama and Diane Kruger, is expanding his cultural horizons by attempting to learn Japanese. For Alice + Olivia’s Stacey Bendet 2010′s goal will be “to get my driver’s license so I can get a pink Smart car.” Meanwhile, Behnaz Sarafpour, whose famous clients include Claire Danes and Rachel McAdams, admits that even though she should be going to the gym, she knows “that just won’t happen, I am aiming for something more realistic and will try to become more of a morning person.” We know exactly how that feels! So with the start of 2010, tell us: What are your New Year’s resolutions this year? –Kristin Larson

From the red carpet to the beach, Hollywood starlets can’t get enough of their straw fedoras. We first spotted Ashlee Simpson a few months back sporting a purple Cha Chas style — and she’s still wearing them, topping off her all-black esemble with a banded Cha Chas this week while celebrating her Seventeen cover. Carmen Electra finshed off her rocker t-shirt and Vix bikini bottoms with a vintage straw hat from New Orleans while lounging at the Polariod House. Rumer Willis brought the trend to the Superdad premiere after-party, pairing her vintage hat (actually from dad Bruce Willis’ collection!) with a white party dress. Get a fedora now to finish out the summer and wear it through the fall! We found you some celeb-fave hats — and more affordable options.

Carmen Electra is definitely one star who likes to play around with her hair color — we’ve seen her run the gamut from bright blonde to deep brunette. But when she turned up at the L.A. premiere of Hairspray last night with almost-black locks, we couldn’t help but do a double take! Maybe it’s the darker color or the sleek, straight ‘do, but Carmen just looks so different to us. Carmen’s rep tells PEOPLE that the change is for a new film so we’ll have a while to get used to the new look. But right now, we’re still undecided about which color we like better. So we want to know what you think! Tell us: What do you think of Carmen’s new darker color? Love it or hate it?

The Scoop On Carmen Electra’s Runway Tumble

Mar/15/2007 at 01:45 PM ET

Carmen Electra had some pre-show jitters before the the Max Factor Salutes Hollywood Fashion Show to benefit Clothes off Our Back. She warned everyone (including fellow celeb strutters Denise Richards and Kristen Cavallari), “Be careful, ladies – it’s slippery!” Hoping to avoid a spill, stylist Nicole Chavez, padded the bottoms of their Stuart Weitzman three-inch heels and sprayed them with hairspray and ginger ale so they would have some traction. Unfortunately, that didn’t stop Carmen from taking a tumble during her second trip down the runway (in a blue Kevin Hall gown). When Days of Our Lives’ star Allison Sweeney, tried to help her up, Sweeney fell too! (Don’t worry, both were fine afterwards.) To avoid more falls, Chavez ordered them to finish the show with heels in hands. Chavez, who styles Rachel Bilson and Ashlee Simpson, says the decision made all the difference, “When the shoes came off, their personalities came out and it was fun.” The head-to-toe looks from the show will be up for auction on Clothes off Our Back starting March 16.
