Brad Goreski Likens His Style to That of … Bozo the Clown

“My whole philosophy is about playing dress-up,” Brad Goreski told PEOPLE recently. “I am preppy, geek-chic with a touch of Bozo the Clown with a touch of Showgirls. Sometimes, I look at myself and think I should put on a red nose, white face and maybe entertain some kids.”

Well, whatever he’s doing, it’s working. Goreski, who gained fame as a Rachel Zoe protégé and recently launched his own styling business — landing him a Bravo TV series, a book deal and a job with Kate Spade in the process — was recently named one of Hollywood’s 25 most influential stylists by The Hollywood Reporter.

“It feels good,” he said while speaking to PEOPLE in L.A. at a Kate Spade-sponsored party for his new tome, Born to Be Brad. “This year has already been so insane … I just feel really, really lucky.”

When Brad Goreski tells Jessica Alba to wear something specific, her answer is usually yes. “We pretty much are on the same page about everything,” she tells InStyle.com. “It’s not hard to work with him at all. I’m usually like, ‘Yeah, OK, you’re right, I’ll wear that.’”

In fact, the actress credits the stylist — recently named one of Hollywood’s 25 most powerful — with giving her current wardrobe a major overhaul. “I’ve never worn this much color before in my life,” she admits. “He’s done an amazing job.” The proof is in her recent outfits, worn to anything from formal events to afternoons out.

Since Alba isn’t a difficult client — “I’m not a fussy person, [but] I’m pretty specific with what I like,” she shares — the pair’s collaborations are usually quite seamless. Says Alba of working with her pal, “It’s always really easy and fun.” Tell us: Do you have a friend you go to for fashion advice?

Brad Goreski Doesn’t Have Design Aspirations … at the Moment

He’s got his reality show, his Kate Spade New York styling gig and now a fashionable new book, Born to Be Brad. So it must be asked: Is stylist Brad Goreski looking to add “designer” to his resume anytime soon, too?

“I think that would be a different path for me,” he told PEOPLE Monday night at his Tommy Hilfiger and Details-sponsored book launch in N.Y.C. “It doesn’t really seem, at this moment, something that I am really, really passionate about. There are just so many other things going on.”

Those other things — aside from writing and letting cameras follow his every move — include styling A-list clients like Jessica Alba. “I still love … [her] at the Golden Globes,” he said when asked about his favorite recent red carpet moment. (The actress wore a lilac Gucci dress, Roger Vivier clutch and Bulgari jewels to the show.) “I still watch the YouTube video of her walking on the stage so I can see the dress shimmer. She looked so beautiful.”

We’ve already picked our best dressed (and you can pick yours, too!) but what do the experts think? We asked Brad Goreski — whose Bravo series It’s a Brad, Brad World, ends tonight — for his input, and here’s what he had to say:

Jessica Chastain. “Jessica has been wearing a lot of solid colors on the red carpet recently, so it was nice to see her in this black Alexander McQueen gown with intricate gold beading. It’s both romantic and tough at the same time. For me, she saved the best look for last.”

Five Things to Know About ‘It’s a Brad, Brad World’

Still recovering from your big New Year’s weekend? Why not settle into the couch tonight with some popcorn and Bravo’s newest reality show, It’s a Brad, Brad World. The series follows former Rachel Zoe protégé (and now kinda-nemesis) Brad Goreski as he takes on the world of styling solo.

We recently spoke to Goreski about his upcoming show; here’s what the ever-preppy fashionisto (and new Kate Spade New York stylist!) had to say:

1. It’s about more than just style. “My personal life and family life is a big focus,” Goreski says. “I really wanted to show people the other side of my life … the great people, my great boyfriend and my family. The different puzzle pieces that make up who I am. I hope the audience enjoys them as much as I do.”

2. He’s not sure he’ll spawn any catchphrases. Zoe has “bananas,” “lit-erally” and “I die,” so what about Goreski? “I have no idea,” he says when asked about a good one-liner. “I haven’t seen the show, so I’m not sure what comes up over and over. We say ‘freaking out’ a lot, but it’s a daily occurrence, every minute.”
