There was no lack of fierce fashion, high wattage stars and bold colors at Sunday night’s Golden Globes! From Angelina Jolie‘s sparkling emerald green Atelier Versace gown to Natalie Portman’s rose-strewn Viktor & Rolf to Amy Adam’s laser-cut Marchesa, the stars turned it out on the red carpet. While some, like January Jones (in barely-there Versace fringe) and Scarlett Johansson (in retro Elie Saab and major hair), took risks, others, like Carrie Underwood (in Badgley Mischka) were just plain gorgeous. Day or Night: Which Johnny Depp Look Do You Like Better?

He may be sharing the red carpet with Angelina Jolie to promote The Tourist, but Johnny Depp has been getting more than his fair share of attention for his sartorial choices during the film’s world tour. The actor, who stepped out in two very different outfits on Dec. 16 for promotional events in Madrid, Spain, first got cameras flashing in a messy cowboy-inspired ensemble of head-to-toe denim and a pinstriped vest—complete with a fedora and scarf-like rags. Later that night, Depp cleaned up his act, hitting the red carpet in a dapper Polo Ralph Lauren charcoal glen plaid three-piece suit, which he accented with a red pocket square and bold framed glasses. And while Depp can pull off just about any style with his striking good looks and A-list charm, we can’t decide which look we like better. Golden Globe Nominations Are In! Which Style Star Are You Most Excited to See?

The nods are in for the 2011 Golden Globes and nominees like Natalie Portman, Angelina Jolie and Anne Hathaway are poised to bring their fiercest fashions yet to the winter awards season. Nominated for turns in Black Swan, The Tourist and Love and Other Drugs, respectively, the actresses have each brought a certain je ne sais quoi to their red carpet looks. While Portman continues to tap into her feminine side with elegant frocks by Jason Wu, Rodarte and Lanvin, Jolie has taken to more sophisticated silhouettes from the likes of Atelier Versace. Never one to shy away from a fashion risk, Oscar co-host Hathaway’s recent choices have run the gamut from timeless Dolce & Gabbana to edgier looks from Miu Miu to well, her birthday suit! And with other recognized actresses including Michelle Williams, Halle Berry and Nicole Kidman in contention, the show will surely bring some serious competition—on, and off, the red carpet. Angelina Jolie’s ‘Tourist’ Style Secrets

Angelina Jolie might be one of modern cinema’s most iconic vixens, but when creating her look for the new movie The Tourist, her costume designer looked to classic film noir glamour. “My inspiration for [Jolie's character] Elise’s costumes were the Hitchcock movies: minimal elegance,” Academy Award-winning costume designer Colleen Atwood, who worked on the thriller, tells PEOPLE. In one scene, Jolie’s character dashes off to a ball in Venice, Italy, wearing a glamorous, flowing black gown topped off with a diamond-studded choker (below). “The black gown was designed to evoke the grand life, and to frame Angelina Jolie’s beauty,” Atwood explains. “The necklace was created by Robert Procop from an antique tiara, and [the diamonds were] definitely real!” Another eye-catching number from the film, an ivory sheath accented with a camel shawl and gloves (above), had a royal lineage as well. “That look was inspired by a dress designed by Irene [Lentz], who is a legendary costume designer,” Atwood says. “I took the basic idea and added some flair to contemporize it. The original had a jacket, but I really wanted something a little more luxurious, so I created the cashmere wrap. I’ve always loved a glove, and was filming in the land of fine gloves, so I used a fine suede glove to finish the look.” –Sara Hammel
