Emmy’s Fashion Goes Red, White and Blue!

Was Hollywood in a patriotic mood tonight? The major colors of the night at the Emmys were red, white … and blue! Ali Larter, Kate Walsh and Mary-Louise Parker stunned in shades of crimson. Katherine Heigl, Debra Messing, Jamie-Lynn Sigler and Marcia Cross shone in creamy gowns. America Ferrera, Tina Fey, Ellen Pompeo, Kristen Bell and Rashida Jones were all true blue in inky dresses. To see even more of the night’s fashion, click here for the Emmys Best Dressed gallery. Tell us: Who was your favorite on the Emmys red carpet?

Predict-A-Gown: America Ferrera at the Emmys

Rare is the young star who doesn’t fumble on the red carpet, but Ugly Betty‘s America Ferrera has been spot-on since she hit the red carpet last year. The actress has mastered flattering her petite and curvy figure, while looking young but always sophisticated. So, America, we salute you and your fashion sense! We’d like to think we have a few good ideas for you out of this week’s N.Y.C. fashion shows — here are our picks for the best actress in a comedy nominee to wear to Sunday’s Emmy awards. Tell us: What do you think America should wear to the Emmys?

Embellished and Elegant: America does well in simple shapes with great details. What about this beaded Catherine Malandrino? Or this gold-flecked Oscar de la Renta? Or this embellished halter from Monique Lhuillier?

Bright and Beautiful:America’s coloring is great with strong color. Why not this green chiffon Carolina Herrrera? Or go bold with this cobalt Zac Posen? Or get noticed in this tangerine Temperley?

Get the Look: America’s Pencil Skirts

Mark J. Terrill/ap; Jon Kopaloff/FilmMagic

First we saw Angelina and Beyonce put their spin on the must-have pencil skirt, and now America Ferrera is giving us her take. The Ugly Betty stepped out in a slim-lined Black Halo pencil sheath for the “Hot in Hollywood” event this past weekend. The actress even added another fall favorite — a wide patent belt by YSL. We love the idea of a pencil skirted dress–it saves us from having to decide on a top! And just a few days later, America celebrated her hit show coming out on DVD in a high-waisted Nanette Lepore pencil skirt with a crochet blue Etro top, lengthening the petite star. We love this trend both ways! Tell us: Which look do you like better on America?

The Ladies of Ugly Betty Rock the Red Carpet!

Francis Specker/ap; Jean-Paul Aussenard/ap

For all of us who are counting down until Ugly Betty returns with new episodes this fall, seeing America Ferrera and Ana Ortiz hit the red carpet of the 22nd Annual Imagen Awards in Los Angeles was especially sweet. With America in a sweeping cream Bill Blass gown and Ana in a sizzling red David Meister, the ladies looked lovely — and coordinated in their halter necklines. But looking good on the red carpet wasn’t the only highlight of the evening for the two on-screen sisters. Ugly Betty won multiple awards at the award show, which celebrates the positive portrayal of Latinos in television and film, including a best actress win for America. A little something to tide us over til the season starts (we can’t wait to see Posh’s rumored cameo!).

America Ferrera’s Affordable Red Carpet Look

The Ugly Betty star and Golden Globe winner stepped out for the Television Festival in Los Angeles wearing head-to-toe Kenneth Cole — which means that unlike other red carpet looks, this one is surprisingly afforable.  The actress played up her curves in a cinched waist dress, that’s available in purple for only $188 here. Her adorable red strappy sandals, which are also available in black, purple and blue can be picked up at Kenneth Cole’s online shoe shop for $170. Too bad an award-winning show wasn’t that easy to get!

Secrets From the Set: How America Gets “Ugly”

Makeup artists on the set of Ugly Betty have a secret weapon for making America Ferrera’s sculpted real-life eyebrows look so, ah, thick on the show: They use Talika Eyebrow Extender, a clear brow gel with thin, hair-like fibers (they look like actual eyebrow hairs) suspended in it. In real life, it fills in over-thin brows or compensates for over-plucked brows while they grow in. We gave them a test drive and it really works, though it took a few practice runs to get it looking more natural than scary. You can get bushier brows on Sephora.com, $33.
